    YES

Okay. My favourite things about this movie is not only the aesthetic and the story, it's all the effort Anna Biller put in to it's making.

She made all of the costumes and many of the props like the pentagram rug and the witches altar. She gathered all of the jewels seen worn by Elaine. Detailed in this blog post of hers:

And here is some more about the stunning costumes:

My favourite is obviously the multi-coloured two-piece that Elaine wears (in my avatar pic). I actually have the Simplicity pattern for the top part, and I've been looking for a similar multi-coloured elastic/spandex material to use so I can make it for myself  :flutter:

anna biller is such a genius and jill-of-all-trades– her film Viva and her short films are also fabulous.

are A24 films considered indie? I'm not really well versed on that kinda stuff but I loved the Witch and Hereditary so much! I also loved The Love Witch

the witch is absolute perfection! Indie is a hard word to use in film nowadays bc even the “indie” companies-like a24 I think- are backed my major corps $. I think these days indie is often used more refer more to films that experiment w traditional film styles and narratives.

I saw Passing last night as part of the Sundance film fest satellite screenings (at a drive in theater) and it was SO good- I love the novel so was glad to see it get such a good adaptation. Tessa Thompson & Ruth Negga star and are incredible, and Andre Holland is in it (and great) too. And right this moment I’m watching Days of Heaven, a 70s Terrence malick film, and so far it’s great. Goddess bless the criterion channel.

Lately I'd still been a bit upset at her over sharing that body shot with the TW displayed incorrectly, cause yeah it did trigger me tbh. And when she posted the photo of her as Poison Ivy saying that she missed being tour shredded but was okay with being squishier or whatever now, I was still sorta mad that she said that cause I thought it was fake acceptance and honestly those halloween photos used to trigger me too. It was pretty clear to me that the tw photo was around the same time, 2018. But that was my problem anyway and not my job or my right to criticise her pain.

I am HAPPY to be happy for her, I want her to be the mother she wants to be, and I hope everyone else can be happy for her too, regardless of how they feel about her.

also happy for her! And completely w you on the trigger thing, I was v weirded out by it.

I wonder where the album was at in 2016 and how many songs Lana scrapped to replace them with all the songs she recorded in 2017. In 2016, she had Love, Lust For Life (most likely without The Weeknd), Something Real, TBAR, Yosemite, Beautiful People, Heroin and Malibu. Then in 2017 she decided to feature other artists on her songs and that’s how we ended up with the final LFL and BPBP (or did she ask Stevie in 2016? Can’t remember). I guess she recorded Summer Bummer and Groupie Love in the spring of 2017. Coachella (and probably Cherry) are from April of 2017. In My Feelings was probably recorded in early 2017 after she broke up with G-Eazy, and GBAAATBWII was apparently recorded in January of 2017 (I guess WTWWAWWKD was also recorded around that time, after Trump officially became president in December of 2016). Tomorrow Never Came was recorded in March of 2017, and White Mustang is early June or something like that. Change was recorded in June too.

10 songs out of 16 were recorded in 2017, 2 that we knew of got scrapped (Yosemite and TNBAR), 2 became collaborations (LFL and BPBP). Malibu became Get Free (and I think the lyrics were changed a bit) and Something Real became 13 Beaches (the lyrics were unchanged if I remember correctly, but the production was a lot darker when it was SR). Heroin was one of the first songs recorded in 2015 and probably the only song that didn’t really change throughout the making of the album.

it makes sense to me that heroin is one of the oldest songs– it could easily fit in on honeymoon and carries a lot of HM's melodic landmarks imo. sonically it's the one song that doesn't seem to quite fit with the rest of LFL as it embodies so many of swooping melancholy of HM (it's my fav song off LFL tho).

I feel like this is a really unpopular opinion but BTD just doesn’t do it for me anymore. It is a legendary album for sure and will always be legendary, but I just don’t really like the music as much as I used to. I became a fan in 2016, and BTD was the first Lana Del Rey album I heard. I loved it, but as the years went on, I realised how overproduced this album was. The lyrics are pretty deep, Lana evokes some serious topics on this album, drugs and alcohol abuse, abusives relationships, the difficulties a teenager or a young adult may face during their life... But I hate how the seriousness of these topics is hidden behind a grand and theatrical production. The whole album is drown in such fakeness that I can’t stand anymore. It doesn’t feel... raw but way too polished. For people that became fans during the BTD era, I can understand how important this album is to them. But for people like me who became fans during or after the HM era, I feel like this album doesn’t really hold any value other than it made Lana what she is today (I’m not generalising, that’s just the impression I get).

Video Games still makes me cry to this day, but that’s probably the only song I’ll have an easy listen with. It makes me feel nostalgic, and happy, in a way. Truly one of the songs I never get bored of.

Anyway, happy birthday, BTD, you’re still a special one

i'm 100% with you– i rarely listen to the album, or even any tracks from it. the production (i could not hate it more tbh), lana's babydoll voice– it irritated me then and still does now. BUT it introduced me to lana's artistic vision and obviously something resonated, bc despite not loving it as a whole when i came out i still listened to it a ton. i think i always appreciated her melodies, songwriting, and storytelling, and felt sure that she'd release music i'd like a lot more in the future– and with paradise and UV that hunch was confirmed. it changed the pop landscape and gave lana the freedom and ability to do whatever she wanted with her music and releases, and for that i'll be forever grateful.

I just realized I already have the exact same Levi's denim jacket--just without the LDR insignia...now I don't wanna spend another 200 on the exact same thing I already have. Maybe she'll sell stickers and I can make my jacket look like the COTCC one lol

if u bought the boxset it comes w a patch you could put on your jacket!

  9. looks like the video is at least partially shot at kara walker's sculpture installation at the tate museum (it's on the first slide of her ig announcement).
