I think this is a really tired narrative about her—there’s only one revenge song on the album (“vigilante shit,” which is about scooter anyway, i.e. FBI white collar crimes she mentions). “karma” is about exactly the opposite, a track about how the best revenge is no revenge, just living a happy life and letting the universe take care of anyone who might have wronged you; a much more mature approach imo and fit for a 32-year-old. there were also no outright revenge songs on folklore or evermore. “my tears ricochet” was about her old manager leaving her in the dust and her feeling a metaphorical death, and “mad woman” was a general anthem for wronged women everywhere. the fans know all of this but the media and GP don’t and always assume that everything is about kanye but it hasn’t been in years… and if that had happened to me going through the “Taylor Swift is over party” I would’ve for sure written a few songs about it too.

5/6 are in my top too, twins 😭 I literally have no idea how I’d order them… maybe 1. Anti-hero 2. Karma 3. You’re On Your Own, Kid 4. Bejeweled 5. Maroon I was soooo nervous for Karma after seeing people tweeting the lyrics but it fits the melody (which requires short syllables) so well and is total ear candy 😭 campy queen

yes the LAST NEW ONE hahaha then there’s just remixes of YOYOK and Sweet Nothing with it on the Target version
-
the teaser trailer for the music videos makes it make a bit more sense! but I agree, everyone being positive it would be 70s soft-rock or dream pop (me included) was a bit shocked haha
-
I literally thought this last night when she announced 3am !!!!!! lmao I was like this really devalues the Target version without those seven tracks even huh
-
And the Target edition which I just picked up to hear the not-streaming-yet “hits different” (which totally slaps) and the two remixes! Literally 21 songs and 2 remixes and a music video and promise of many more within only 24 hours 😭 holy shit
-
WOULD’VE COULD’VE SHOULD’VE ok evermore cut??????? 😭
-
literally pms-ing but not me crying the second lana sang “ooh” lmao. loved hearing her but obviously wanted more 😭 trying to trust that they wouldn’t do us dirty and this was the best way for their [very different] voices and tones to overlap and collab yet still mix and sound compatible… I will feed myself this narrative thank you. I wanted it to be my favorite song on the album but it’s not in my top 5 or anything =\

this is a really good take. I can absolutely see why it’s so divisive—it’s a VERY wordy album, with a lot of same-note-repetition melodies in the verses (very Jack/Bleachers, which I love but some people really don’t like). that’s what gives it its rushing feeling but probably also why I’ve seen a bunch of people on pop heads say it all sounds the same to them which one do you want next? 👀 I want 1989 so bad but now that she did a pop album and the shake it off lawsuit continues, I feel like it could be speak now…

I’m sorry you didn't love it!!! I know how disappointing it can be to not love one of your fave’s new works. maybe some songs will grow on you and if not, no harm no foul, hopefully you will love the next era (which I’m positive will be so soon already g damn hahah) 💙

WOWOWOWOW. I don’t even know where to begin. This album is so unique, and very different for Taylor. The vibe through the incredibly cohesive runtime feels like you’re drunk under the disco ball and neon lights on a darkened dance floor. It feels inspired by the current Euphoria obsession and soon-to-be-trending indie sleaze revival. I’m sure it won’t be everyone’s favorite because it’s not what anyone on my timeline expected but I literally feel like it was hand made for me. The lyrics, while more “glitter gel pen” are simpler diaristic thoughts—it feels like your friend is talking to you in a colloquial way. At the same time, despite the simpler lyrics (woven in with STILL INCREDIBLY POETIC LYRICS), Taylor truly confessed a lot in this album; from saying she feels she has been the problem many times, to how lonely she felt even as a child, feeling jealousy and insecurity (especially as she ages, I.e. infamous “sexy baby” line), and lastly, moving on from past revenge by saying her good karma is the reason she has a happy life. There are other adult references I won’t get into here, but you’ll know when you listen. These are all thoughts I’ve had myself as a 30-year-old, looking back on my life and moving on from people and situations, it’s what I’d expect from her to think in hindsight at this age, and yet it will still feel applicable to those younger & currently going through these things. Overall, I think the production is INCREDIBLE. Jack absolutely killed it; although there’s small touches of Lorde-esque synths, I don’t think this sounds Melodrama or like any other project he’s worked on—it’s more forward-thinking with a lot of negative space that creates a whirlwind atmosphere, like spinning on a carousel. I couldn’t be happier. I think that no matter what Taylor did, people would criticize it—if she did another folk/alt run, they would have said it’s getting tired, but now that she’s returned to pop, people will say the lyrics aren’t literary enough. Well, for me it was damn near perfection. I felt just about as moved as I did listening to folklore for the first time, and cried the same amount. I’m so proud of Taylor. Favorite tracks on first listen: anti-hero (!!), you’re on your own kid, bejeweled, karma, mastermind, maroon

heartbroken about the Behind the Iron Gates poetry book omg 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I’ve been so excited for it edit: I cannot even imagine how gut-wrenching that has to feel as an artist. that was HOURS AND HOURS of her life, thoughts, and art. to even try to recreate one lost work is unbelievable but all 200 pages? she deserves so much better than that. I really hope the rotten thief turns it back in or is caught. I’m positive no matter what she releases and when it’s ready/recreated it will still be incredible, but I honestly understand if she can’t endeavor to rewrite 200 pages of beautiful spur-of-the-moment poems 😭 wow

It was less about Lana & more about Taylor bc not all of Taylor’s collabs usually do though (ex. HAIM & The Dixie Chicks did not get a writing credit), sometimes she just asks someone to sing a part she’s already written. But Lana didn’t get writing credit on her BORNS collab, so it has happened before! But I know our queen’s writing prowess, that’s for dammm-sure—she changes every song she touches ❤️

tell him your priorities! NO TIME FOR TV 🥲

I made this little sampler for someone else if you want tracks hand-picked by a Lana stan—these are her heavier topic songs w/ swears, etc. and toward the bottom are ones where you can really hear Lana’s influence (cardigan & cowboy like me) https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4QcmXRSL0m7AumH3VwY4wB?si=cvI12qOzQFCbnGVQlZ9Z_w&pt=4faab66ead5595200588c1f392f4dada

Taylor talking a bit about the track & Lana in her new reel! she says it’s about falling in love with someone at the same time they’re falling in love with you, in a way that is so cataclysmic that it’s hard to believe it’s really happening, as dreamlike and surreal as snow falling on the beach https://www.instagram.com/reel/CjmXQ8dLsyo/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

here you go, friend— with some notes, below! a Taylor Swift sampler of her heavier/adult-topic songs: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4QcmXRSL0m7AumH3VwY4wB?si=ZKaCZnQFTjST9amMGQHppQ&pt=5f1d02adde805ae250bcf4a76a332882 some different themes for you in here: • tracks 1-8 (mad woman - ivy): include the heavy topics I mentioned - MAD WOMAN IS THE ONE TO TRY FOR SURE 😭 big tori amos vibes • tracks 9-11 (false god - don’t blame me): a few more sexually charged songs, a bit darker sonic tones • tracks 12-18 (cowboy like me - the lakes): tracks I just think LDR fans would like, including tracks that have Lana’s influence in them (especially cardigan and cowboy like me) ❤️❤️❤️

giant swiftie here since ‘06! do not fear, Taylor covers some really adult topics—not in her radio singles usually, but especially since Lover & folklore. also, she swears a lot, just didn’t as a teenager: - 6 of 13 tracks on Midnights are explicit, INCLUDING snow on the beach so LANA’S TRACK WILL BE EXPLICIT 🔥 we love to see it - 5 to 6 tracks each on folklore & evermore were explicit (same amount as NFR) - in recent tracks she’s covered heavy topics/stories including: a recovering alcoholic (this is me trying), an affair where at least one person was already married (illicit affairs & ivy), her childhood neighbor who suffered emotional and/or physical abuse as a child (seven), a stalker visiting the funeral of the woman he obsessed over (my tears ricochet), an engagement being broken off because of mental health issues (champagne problems), an emotionally abused spouse (tolerate it), overtly sexual religious metaphors (false god), world war ii violence (epiphany), and more. so we are in for a great song (and story!), that’s for sure! happy to make any non-swifties a sampler playlist if you want one
