Yeah, the Judah Smith Interlude’s instrumentation is very unsettling and eerie according to BOZ. I’m actually very excited about it. It feels like the natural continuation of the darkness of A&W. He loves the Jon Batiste Interlude. Apparently it’s very wild and heavy on electric guitars! Both interludes will be divisive - Kintsugi dislikes them, lol! -, but I’m glad she’s not playing it safe. What intrigues me the most is that both insiders told us that the album is sonically adventurous and unexpected and that there will be something for everyone. The track rankings will be all over the place, but it’ll be the sign of a great diverse album.

Given that both insiders told us that the second half of the album is stronger than the first one and yet we’ve already been gagged by tracks 2 and 4, I think that we’re going to get a truly great record. So many tracks have been highlighted by them: The Grants (full and gorgeous), Candy Necklace (massive), Kintsugi (best song of all-time according to our favourite insider), Fingertips (stunner), Paris, Texas (delicate highlight), Grandfather (BOZ’s favourite), Let The Light In (singled out by both insiders), Fishtail (the potential fan favourite of the album), Peppers (a slutty vibey bop apparently), Taco Truck (an outro for the books). Even Sweet is praised for its beautiful strings, Kintsugi thinks that Margaret is actually great, and BOZ adores the instrumentation on both interludes. This album is shaping up to be one of the most important works in Lana’s career.

Very strong debut on Spotify: 1st Day - Partial (only 9 hours of tracking) 🌍 WW: #139 (NEW) — 1,251,647 (filtered) 🇺🇸 US: #93 (NEW) — 410,167 (filtered) 🇬🇧 UK: #89 (NEW) — 92,349 (filtered) The title track got 1,355,631 filtered streams on its first day (partial), so the gap between the two tracks consists of 100,000 streams. For a surprise drop of a 7-minute album track with zero playlisting on a Tuesday, this is quite impressive. Hopefully it’ll have a healthy run and - why not? - perform even better (the TikTok stans have to make it go viral though!) in the upcoming days/weeks until the album release date. Lana deserves this.

Crude Drawing of an Angel is my favourite track by far. Absolutely transcendent. I also really love Pretty in Possible, Butterfly Net, Blood and Butter, and Hopedrunk Everasking. Billions has aged beautifully and is such an amazing - and fitting! - closer. I’m less keen on the rest of the singles which all have their strong moments, but mostly feel ‘slight’ compared to the rest of the album (Bunny Is A Rider is very cool though) . I also love Dido on Fly on Me (Grimes almost ruins the song, lol).

I’m so excited about Taco Truck x VB. The way she revisited, payed tribute and even sampled older songs/sounds in A&W is absolutely astonishing. Kintsugi saying that Taco Truck’s outro is one for the books makes me even more impatient. And Jack teased it on his IG story today, as well! I’m pretty sure it’ll be a glorious ending to a sublime album. I’m also very curious about the interludes which are supposed to be psychotic and creepy. I wonder if Candy Necklace is going to take us by surprise, too. I remember BOZ saying that all the long tracks on the album have unusual/unconventional structure and this track has an insane amount of instruments on it. And Kintsugi described it as « massive ».

BOZ praised The Grants, Fingertips, and Let The Light In, and Kintsugi told us that the sequence between track 8 and track 16 (which includes Fingertips and Let The Light in) is the best section of the album. Not to mention that BOZ also mentioned how beautiful the strings on Sweet are. So I’m not worried about Drew’s work this time around. BOZ hated Drew’s production on BB btw, lol.
