its been a little while of listening and now i can safely say my favorite songs are Haunting, Control, Gasoline, and Young God, which are also conveniently in a row on the tracklist

I kinda doubt it will get any kind of physical release though because it sort of defeats the purpose of a "free release" 
 
(Also on an unrelated note, due to the length I think it'd need to be at least a 3xLP to fit all of the tracks which could get really expensive to produce)

I dont understand him. Its (imo) pretty mediocre songwriting (which he has a questionable hand in) mixed with even more underwhelming vocals (which I can only imagine live) all drown to death in heavy electro-pop production. Something about him just feels very forced to me. I don't know if its the tumblr pandering aesthetic he's trying to work or the child actor suddenly turned singer singed to a major label, it just comes off as really unappealing to me

could you imagine how many songs would sound alike if we took the time to slow down one so it matches the beat of the other

So I've never been very vocal about my thoughts on Halsey but for some reason she always rubbed me wrong and I think because of so many other people not liking her and all the crap I heard, it made me not want to like her either.
 
Today I listened to the standard version of BADLANDS straight through and I totally, completely loved it. It made me furious that she has gotten so much hate for this project and that it actually affected me enough to the point where I was avoiding giving her a real chance up until now. The only song that didn't really hit me on first listen from the standard edition was "Young God", but it is such a great album and I can't wait to listen to it more. I'm here y'all.

I totally get what you're saying and agree. I actually wish I would have pursued music more when I listen to him because everything sounds good, but beneath the surface the lyrics are very easy and cliché and his range is so small. Not to sound rude but I have at least as much vocal talent as him and could literally could sing any EP of his effortlessly in a studio. He just has the right people and producers around him and the popularity to create a good sound and enough YouTube fans to support it.
 
Even through all of this, "Bite" is excellent and I love this song.

I'm sad no one else is bringing up how prefect/special/beautiful Lighter is (especially since she wrote it herself)

The maximum you can get on one side of a 12" is 20 minutes before you start sacrificing sound quality and most only recommend going up to 18. She could do it I guess but I'd rather her just go with the 3xLP and keep all the tracks. I'd pay whatever she charges tbh I don't even care

I'd rather want a vinyl than a CD. But we'll see.

She should take some time off. I feel like she's too worried about staying relevant/famous and its part of whats taking such a huge toll on her

I just got done listening to Badlands all the way through for the first time. It was nothing like I thought it would be and I actually really liked it despite not being too fond of what I knew of Halsey so far. Proof you should never judge until you hear. Really after hearing it I don't see why anyone says she copies Lana except for the NA chorus but other than that I don't honestly see many similarities. Its good enough that I might even buy the vinyl, which I only do if I really, really like an album. But I'm going to give it some time. There were some songs that were kind of forgettable but I liked it overall. 
 
I think my favorites were Castle and Drive!
 
Oh and the Walk The Line cover was a kind of strange/good surprise? 

Apparently if you play Young God backwards, you'll be able to understand what she's saying in the beggining: "Forever cursed in love are the observant. Forever a slave to the detail."

I listened to Badlands and honestly, I like it sooooo much. I like every song with the exclusion of New Americana and Drive, everything else is amazing. It's she's not the most original artist out there, but a lot of musicians need time to disover their own sound.
