  1. I listened to HBTB like 7 times in a row last night. I have to upgrade the replay value to 10. If HBTB will not become a global hit for her nothing will. The GP is not aware of the song yet but radio is slowly starting to play it and I bet that it will blow up in the coming weeks.
  2. I'm a little worried about that she didn't hyped up MTWBT. TLY went almost unnoticed outside her core fandom and just half of the blogs that usually are writing about her mentioned the single. Still not over about how redundant HM is because of TLY and HM it's the first Lana song that's annoys me because starts the album and it's really boring.
  3. It's the HOTLINE working? Major Tom to Lana: YOU HAVE A FUCKING ALBUM OUT SOON!! Lana to Major Tom: Listen hunty to HM 10 times in a row and calm the fuck down!
  4. This era is a mess. At least with UV we had wacko interviews and cancelled promo. Someone call her
  5. I have two thoughts about the album at this point: 1. TLY made HM utterly redundant which will drag down the first half of the album. 2. MTWBT is suddenly the centerpiece of the album. If MTWBT it's not near iconic status HM is in trouble commercially and the first part of the album, which usually is better, will be lackluster. She needs a huge single to gain momentum because it seems that she's not willing to do any promotion at all.
  6. I'm agreeing with you on this: Lana is NOT everybody else. Lana is different because she was the most viciously attacked artist at the beginning of her/his career that I heard of. There are people out there that hate her with passion and I'm not talking about stupid fans of other artists, I'm referring to the half of the american music journalists and industry people. They are so hateful that they even embarrass themselves trying to shade her, like Anthony Fantano did (the so called "Pitchfork of YouTube"). see here his mockery of HBTB: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljBdKEaUULU Quality is subjective and no matter how good you are, people who irrationally hate you will always find a way to take you down. She's not depressed without a reason, she feels these things and because of them she's terrified to perform outside her fandom. She's practically a crippled artist now, she's not recognized by the industry, last year's Grammy snub of Ultraviolence was clear message that she has no place in the establishment. Commercial success is, on the other hand, something quantifiable, hard numbers that you cannot argue with. The critics slated BTD but after charting for ever I read lines from a former hater when he reviewed UV that "millions and millions of Lana fans cannot be wrong" and something must be good in her music. She has a bad karma unfortunately, some of it was her fault because she din't take seriously her public relations (see some of her interviews) and she had an awful management since the beginning. More people are relating to her in the US by that SNL fiasco than to an artist that has some interesting tunes out. Plus, I think that we overestimated her fandom. Her tragic Spotify numbers regarding HBTB are a clear sign that those 3 mil followers are not fans. The hard core Lana fans are more close to the number of the subscribers to the Honeymoon Instagram account. So she could shrink from millions to a couple of hundred of thousands of albums sold this era if she's not aware of this. As some said in other treads the album sales of HM could be even weaker than UV. You have to promote to activate that potential buyer base because many of them are not even aware that HBTB is out or she will have a new album out. As a conclusion she needs at least some commercial success to be recognized qualitatively because otherwise she will be always the artist who makes ”bad” music loved by a bunch of weirdos.
  7. Wow this tread is dead for 6 days now. Her lead single is nowhere interesting even for the people obsessed with her. I followed the evolution of HBTB as I believe that has some hit potential. It's a catchy pop song with relatable lyrics. 1. Radios are picking up the song but I don't know if the important ones. It is played in the US, UK, France or Germany? They talked to iheart radio executives about HBTB if I remember correctly. Well they made some snapchat jokes about her at least. 2. On twitter people are constantly tweeting about how much they like the song. 3. The video is meme worthy bad, but the ocean is blue and Lana is sexy, the whole thing has a strange dynamic that makes it strangely watchable. Now has 12 mil. views in 12 days (1 mil/day but is going down). 4. On the US itunes HBTB is on 55 and going down. I don't know if is that high because of the album pre-orders, but the sales are weak anyway. 5. On Spotify she has 5.665.236 streams. That makes it 377.682 streams/day compared with Cool For The Summer which has 728.777 streams/day. 5. I saw a billboard article where HBTB was on 65 on the next hot 100 (going down 14 places with all the streams counted i suppose). So the prospects are looking rather grim for HBTB. I hope tho that HBTB becomes a sleeper hit. I don't understand her attitude towards promoting her music tbh. Quality artists like St. Vincent or Father John Misty were all over the televisions with their music and they sell a fraction of what Lana sells without promotion. It makes no sense to not want to perform your on music. I'm very disappointed by her attitude so far. This is beyond the laziness theory, she is terrified of performing. Think of the Weeknd performance of Prisoner at Billboard 100, I cannot picture any current recognizable female artist that wouldn't take the opportunity to go on stage with Abel.
  8. Taylor Swift is a corporation. She's parading half of the biggest celebrities in her videos and on her tour to reach her insane targets in streaming and selling. She's the most manufactured celebrity that I know of, it's painful to see how she manages her image, even faking tender moments with fans for likability. She is the worst, the way she "befriended" every artist dujour makes me vomit
  9. So far my grades are (1 to 10 scale): Lyrics/Sound+vocals/Replay value (short term) HM = 5/7/5 = 5,66 HBTB = 7/7/8 = 7.33 TLY = 8/9/7 = 8 So far HM is a 7 for me It's not bad, but, as someone mentioned this before, HM is far yet from BTD and UV which both included iconic songs in the first half of the album
  10. So many good points raised in this thread lately 1. She has no label backup in the US, that means that there will be no significant promo (I suspect that the cancelled Letterman show last year was the breakingpoint with Interscope regarding their collab). 2. She's basically an online fenomenon but her online fandom is slowly breaking apart. Let's face it, no one, besides the online blogs, gives a shit about her new release. I have the feeling, from what I read about her in this era, that even the blogs are getting slowly bored by her, the controversies that fueled the thinkpieces about her are getting old and few of the writers are willing to praise her artistry. Some of her fans have already moved on, especially during the UV era, now she's 30 and she hardly appeals to the next teen generation with songs like HM or TLY. The idea of LDR as a huge star is dead. Maybe she get's lucky with the Weeknd collab to sustain some mainstream support for HM 3. From point 2 the only resonable conclusion is that her future is as a niche artist with a respectabily large, cult following. For that she has to pull the magic every time to give the desired fix to the addicted. I'm one of them and I got my fix with TLY and just partially from HBTB and HM. and who give's a shit about the cover? If I cared about the covers I would never listen to any LDR songs.
  11. I like TLY more than HM. It's definitely an upgrade compared to HM in every department, especially lyrically. In my opinion TLY is the best song so far from HM. I can listen to the lyrics now without getting upset about her fetish with abstract bad boys because I can picture the story as something related to her relationship with Barrie. This era is a roller-coaster for me so far
  12. Prisoner sounds great. Lana's part is incredible. The spoken outro . Now I'm even more pissed at the HM songs.
  13. Interscope it's all about Jepsen, they doesn't give a fuck about Lana anymore. I hoped that they push HBTB a little but nah, they obviously don't believe in the commercial potential of the material on HM. The bad thing is, from what I heard until now, that this album is shaping up as inferior to anything she released in her career until now. Brace yourself to 50-60 on Metacritic

    Swan Song

Quitting tea again? But after threatening many times the same thing...maybe has a different meaning
  15. I'm not the crying type but I'm beyond disappointed with what I heard so far. It's just an opinion
  16. It's basically HM 2.0 with better lyrics but mining the same tired bad lover trope. I expected something dramatic at the end but she just hummed lazily. The sound is boring (Nowels) her vocals are just dreamy boring without conveying anything. Then guitars at the beginning were cool and I expected something different
  17. The ode to the imaginary bad lover is beyond tiresome at this point. Sorry Lana, hiring snoozfest Rick Novels to produce the entire album was a huge mistake. The sound is tired, HM and TLY are so similar that is kind of tacky. Humming half of the songs is just lazy. I don't give a fuck about the covers but with this one, where she is just a tiny head between the lines, it's kind of a suggestion for the inevitable fading into irrelevance of her career. After TLY I give up any hope for this album. UV next to HM is a masterpiece and I still don't understand the rush to come out with this subpar album after UV
  18. The Billboard fiasco unfortunately reinforced Lana's messy image. Poor Lana has no fault in this and I hope that HBTB rebounds towards the top of the charts. Contrary to other opinions I think that she put herself in a position when she needs to release quality songs which are in the same time commercially viable. The video seems to have good replay value. Why isn't HBTB played on the radio yet?
  19. Please stop with this bye thing. Here are people with different opinions and that is the fun in a forum. I have a meltdown, others are praising this shit and that's fine by me
  20. Don't get me wrong. I'm mad at the execution of the video, it feels amateurish. You can express great ideas and in the same time take care about every single scene and shot. What is the idea to come out with a potential hit and undermine it with this poorly executed video?
  21. Yea that's a good point, but it's true for the fans too. She can troll anyone but her fans.
  22. I talked about her stupid video not her career. Read first
  23. I can't with the delusional interpretations of this amateurish video. She's such a bad actress and she moves so awkwardly that was painful to watch sometimes. At least get that lip-sync right. The way the gun didn't fit in the guitar case is ridiculous. She's such a troll
  24. It's not UV video level trolling but it will not help her in this era. I like it somewhat visually because she is so beautiful and I love the ocean. Fuck Jake Nava, this shit didn't needed a director. She killed HBTB commercially with this video but put the song in a different perspective and strangely I enjoy it more watching the video. I think that she exaggerates the paparazzi thing, she's not that famous. She was more insulted as an artist than bothered in her every day life by the media. You can stop trolling Lana you'll never become a superstar. I'm not interested anymore how she fares commercially because she obviously doesn't give a shit. So far, qualitywise, HM has to mediocre songs and a subpar video. At least UV had quality songs, I'm done staning this era
  25. I hope that the action will go outside her house. I'm anxious because it looks amateurish from the snippets. The lyrics are quite good for a commercial song so she can deliver a video with great story and imagery. As others mentioned maybe the snippets aren't from the actual video but I highly doubt that. There is no time for her to troll again, she can't afford to fuck up a commercial era, she needs to be involved, to be professional about it and she cannot shy away from the spotlight. If she flops with basic top 100 songs (HBTB is borderline that) it will be uglier than the UV sales drop and she will loose a lot of fans and credibility.
