Tbf I wasn’t really one to think Venice’s lyrics were super deep but honestly i find its simplicity charming (especially when you’re trippping), it’s full of 70s references that are kinda shoehorned in but I think it works. Didn’t really care about the ice queen lyric until I found out that it refers to a newspaper article written about her calling her that. I find that the simplicity makes sense for the song’s dream pop genre. For White Dress I don’t think the lyrics will be that simple (especially if it’s a piano song) but more on the melancholic nostalgic side (I think eclipse lowkey confirmed this)

understandable but the fact that sia flat out telling an autistic person on twitter "maybe you’re just a bad actor" was in such bad taste obviously i don't know the difficulties of casting and what not, but she/her pr team really should have seen this coming. i also think sia would've chosen maddie over any other more than capable actor because she has an obvious attachment to her, she's been the main character in Sia's works since like 2014. kinda weird but expected at this point

honestly venice is an every mood song for me (except for anger), even though i can see it as a love song, it's mainly a song about reminiscing about the past and I view it as bittersweet/melancholic albeit soothing as well. so if white dress is really about her lizzy days, i can see how the two can go hand in hand if they're both about nostalgia in a way.

Lana's diction and incomprehensible lyrics
Crimson and Clover replied to americangothic's topic in Lana Thoughts
I mainly hear these lyrics, Crowley way of being makes more sense for me on Get Free because she cast that spell on D Trump. I hear Life's Dream more on VB but it would make more sense for it to be livestream tbh. For Swan Song, I hear "Dive in, dive deep in dark blue suede." I think it's more of her visual imagery (like "I dream in jeans and leather"), suede is basically a velvety leather material so it provides dark blue (deep, sad emotion) velvety imagery I guess? -
I wouldn't say they're similar but more so inspired/influenced and definitely agree that Lana has not copied them in any way (same thing with how Velvet Underground inspired some aspects of Mazzy Star but their songs aren't really that similar). like I said, I feel like most of the influences are seen in MAC (alt country)/VB (dream pop + neo-psychedelia + slowcore) and additionally in the dream pop/neo-psych aspects of UV, which really remind me of So Tonight and Among My Swan, which I would argue are pretty influential albums from their time. I would argue that Hope's songwriting can be metaphorical and poetic as well (thinking of Unreflected + her solo work), but I guess that's more subjective. then again, I was talking more about influences and not similarity, they're separate artists.

im actually curious to know if Lana has cited Mazzy Star/Hope as an influence to her music before? all I can remember is Hope being like "I don't know who that is" when she was asked about Lana to me the influences feel kinda obvious, especially with MAC/VB. but yesss i always imagined COCC sounding like she hangs brightly after she mentioned it being more country/folky. always hoping that Lana will follow in their footsteps in dream pop and even the occasional shoegaze influence
