I’m sorry but can someone explain to me how Lordes new song sounds like a Lana song I’ve asked like multiple times on that thread, it seems more similar to a Paul Simon (who Lorde apparently loves) song than anything Lana has made. If it reminds me of any Lana song it’s Textbook tbh -

It’s TikTok. I think if Billie started getting known during the surge in popularity of TikTok (when COVID first started), she would have been even bigger than she is now. My opinion at least, but TikTok has been making really old songs chart again because they’re being “rediscovered” on the platform. I see TikTok as Tumblr circa the early 2010s for music, except it’s even more accessible for the general population -
Not sure if I’m like deaf but I hear this influence more than any Lana song. Pls the song isn’t even dream pop ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABXtWqmArUU

also this literally sounds like a song by Paul Simon hasn’t she stated him as an influence before or am I tripping?
-

Really really random but I feel like I started really loving MAC after I saw this video probably a few weeks after it’s release?? This video is just so iconic tbh I love it so much. I got into this whole movie trilogy just because Of this video

Yess I agree and relate with everything you said (especially VB ) . I think this past year I drifted a bit away from it after seeing all the criticism it gets on LB, but listening to the instrumentals I really do see the magic again. It's really helped me appreciate songs I wasn't too fond of (HTD, TNBAR) but made me appreciate the ones I love even more (basically the rest, but special shout out to MAC/VB, FIILY, California, TG, HIAB, HIADT). I think especially now with Lana doing stuff with more producers, NFR is really starting to become a gem for me.

Music (& stuff) people like that you tried to get into, but can’t

Blonde by Frank Ocean I think it's a good album but I don't enjoy it as much as I do with Channel Orange, Endless, or his standalone stuff For some reason Blonde never clicked with me, which is upsetting because I can recognize the importance it has, especially as a queer poc -
oh yeah definitely, I get really heavy Mazzy Star vibes from MAC/VB and some from UV as well

just cried to White Dress and Blue Banisters drunk sitting in my shower I'm a new person rn I still don't understand Wildfire Wildflower but imma try also BB reminds me a bit of Grouper's work!! a bit more pop-ish but still very melancholic -
Sirens: Junky Pride AKA: Pawn Shop Blues BTD: Video Games Paradise: Ride UV: Shades of Cool HM: Terrence Loves You LFL: Heroin NFR: Venice Bitch COTCC: White Dress

I mean I spend most of my time as Lana fan on this forum so my view might be skewed but in my experience most ppl don't seem to like NFR I feel like a lot of pages on this very thread debate on whether or not NFR is liked or not I think it's safe to say it's controversial among Lana fans
-
Disagree because VB is my forever fave
-
i'm sorry ik ppl hate NFR but california always pust me in my feelings
-
this and LFL make me nostalgic for some of the best moments of my life

It’s really sad for me to say but I agree that Lana kinda fell off after NFR. I think COCC might be a grower like HM (for me at least) tbh, but...Yeah it feels like I’m starting to unstan. I even liked LMLYLAW but I have not been obsessively listening to these new singles like before Ik people don’t really like NFR but for me it was a new sound for her that I enjoyed, but she’s been getting more and more minimal after it and it’s kinda yikes for me. I think it’s a mixture with her public image that kinda seals the deal for me now. It’s like she doesn’t care anymore. At this point I’m hoping she’ll have her great comeback in like 5 years. ALSO at this point I don’t think it’s jacks fault because she’s working with like 3 new producers and they’re still underwhelming. It has to be Lana at this point
-
I really didn’t care for the new tracks and Mike Dean’s production really underwhelmed me. I feel like I’m missing something with these tracks but I guess that’s how some people felt when NFR was released. I do like Textbook overall but the BLM line is cringy sorry

I honestly want to take a moment and appreciate hiadt because I think without it, we wouldn't really have songs like White Dress, Blue Banisters, and maybe even Textbook. I know people like to joke about Jack's 'piano flops' but it really, really woke up the melancholic singer/songwriter in Lana imo. it's still one of the most depressive songs I know

textbook’s verses remind me a lot of Nancy Sinatra, specifically Bang Bang. Now all we need is a Some Velvet Morning cover !
