  1. Oh! That was you! I remember reading that back then and thinking, who is this fine fellow posting Man Ray links in the Lana Del Rey thread of this forum that i know absolutely nothing about? Kinky mom pant ass 4-ever
  2. Yeah, "The Man I Love" is a fan construction made up of repeated/looped/edited sections that were excised from what is known as the Trash Magic demo, which i still maintain (even without definitive evidence) is itself made up of two different recordings--the choruses of Trash Magic and the sections that make up "The Man I Love"--with some amazingly odd edits.
  3. Oh, i thought of another one: I like the chorus effect (it's not Auto-Tune and frankly sounds nothing like it) on the vocals of Birds of a Feather.
  4. This is correct. And yeah, extra typing concerns be damned. Also, people who do not like or even actively hate I Sing The Body Electric need to check into an asylum.
  5. The vocals in the MDM demo were flown into the album version. Same exact vocals. There are some very slight timing issues when they were cut up and put over the album backing track, which is what you might be hearing as the difference.
  6. As in after the release of AKA? Where did you get this information from?
  7. I’m happy that the topics that came up with the GQ shoot are still being discussed and have now spilled into another thread; it's important and it's nice to see it being discussed. I agree with whoever said that everyone should be a feminist. Why in the world not? What single good reason is there not to be? Anyway...about the topic of this thread: As some of you may remember, i really hate the National Anthem video. I like the Blue Jeans video much more than the Born to Die video. TIWMUG is my least favorite song on the record. I have no interest in Damn You, it’s a weak song with bad production and i think it’s been singled out as such a coveted song because that’s what previews do--they whet the appetite and make anything more appealing. I think there's a need to fill in the gaps and a desire to grab hold of the dangling carrot. That song stinks. I think Lana can be incredibly cheesy and i love it. I also enjoy all of her paradoxes. I actually love that she has terrible songs sitting right alongside amazing ones. I often wonder if she’s mentally unstable. She seems a bit off. I don't know if this is an unpopular view or not, but she's weird, genuinely weird. Not Lady Gaga/Marilyn Manson weird, which isn't weird in the slightest. That said, what the hell does it even mean to be weird anyway? But yeah, she's a weirdo. There are a few interviews in which i cringe because she comes across pretty dumb. I think she plays that up though and uses that as a sort of tool to be evasive. I wonder why people--if they’re interested in this sort of thing--almost never bring up her nose job and instead focus on her lips. Anyway, discussion about her lips and nose is boring. That's it for now. P.S. ednafrau, it’s nice to see you again!
  8. One doesn't even have to read a single word, just taking one quick look at that set of covers suffices. Again, this is not about nudity. Nor is it about dignity, or any moralistic link between the two. For me it's not even about Lana Del Rey's choices, because a big part of what i like and appeals to me about her is that there's something fucked up about her--so many of her lyrics, even her persona itself, often leave me feeling somewhat uncomfortable and confused. There is nothing safe about her. My contention here is how problematic and transparent this magazine's whole approach is. This is the sort of thing we see everyday everywhere. But, still, it's upsetting, frustrating, and exhausting to continually see it--in this case in such an unmistakable and blatant fashion--men's control of the media (read: everything) and heteronormative male fantasy as the cultural norm. I mean, really, four "men of the year" uniformly displayed in tuxedos and the lone "woman of the year" naked, looking coy and vulnerable? Really? Can you dig a bigger hole for yourselves, GQ? This is a text book example of patriarchy, androcentrism, the media reducing women to their sexual capital, and a bunch of other insidious, poisonous things that sadly most people either don't notice, don't care about, or dismiss altogether.
  9. Ugh, that is so upsetting, and yeah, that's what i'm talking about. Great juxtaposition of pictures in that link that totally exposes GQ's aforementioned bullshit. This is so blatant and stereotypical it almost, almost seems like satire. Is it really the year 2012?
  10. You are SO right about that! Almost forgot.
  11. Ooph, best cinematography nomination for Born to Die, not Blue Jeans? I guess it would make sense that anyone making any decisions over at MTV wouldn’t know anything about anything.
  12. I am relieved and find it refreshing to see people questioning aspects of Lana’s decisions rather than the obligatory OMG she is SO FLAWLESS. And PrettyBaby, i appreciate you bringing up gender a lot! There’s nothing inherently immoral, tasteless, or trashy about nudity, but sheesh, when it’s filtered through the androcentric lens of GQ then we’re just retreading the same old problematic terrain. I don’t know why anyone would want to take part in that magazine’s bullshit. That said, i thought this was a great interview. No. It's fucking GQ magazine.
  13. It seemed like some sort of evil, sinister thing, so i thought maybe you were just being a Heavy Hitler. A local thing, huh? Where are you, in an isolated gothic castle atop a hill underneath a cluster of black clouds, reveling in your own evilness? Oh gosh, the importance of a beat and a line break.
  14. Oh wait, i see what you mean now regarding the blue stars. I didn't realize what you were referring to because i was seeing them as blue dots, but now i also see blue stars. And when you hover over either one, they both say "Go to first unread post." Strange. Is there a reason why sometimes it's a dot and other times a star? I imagine there has to be some distinction, but they both appear to serve the same function. EDIT: Okay, i think i figured it out. When it's a star, it indicates that you've posted in that thread.
  15. Hmm, i'm not seeing a blue star anywhere. Many things are customary. Prearranged marriages, for example. As evilentity said, moving it to the General section allows people to share fan-made art for other artists as well. I don't know, i was on a making-suggestions-kick, i just went with it. At any rate, thanks! I really don't see more than a single thread being necessary for the topic of chart and sales. But then again, if forums were run according to my likes and needs, they would probably just implode into nothingness. Ah, OCD. I like it. Yeah, a separate Albums section is essential. Cast my vote! Thou shalt not make graven images, my son. Sorry, this post is an explosion of quotes.
  16. Pretty please, a feature that takes you to the last unread post when you click on a thread; that is truly one of the most useful features on a forum. A Charts and Sales section isn't necessary and will hardly ever generate content. The Fan Art section should not be in the main Lana Del Rey section, as that is too subjective for the general Lana Del Rey section. Perhaps it would fit better in the General section. It would be nice if, with whatever changes are made to better organize the place, things remained unified as Lana Del Rey rather than making a distinction between Lana Del Rey and Lizzy Grant, as that is soon to be, if not already, moot. It would also be nice if there was an option for people to customize the look/interface of the forum so that a color other than white can be chosen, so as to prevent blindness/suicide. Sauerkraut goes really well with eggs. Muchisimas gracias!
  17. Proceed with caution. Hey, wouldn't it be great if the producers had taken note of all the BTD criticisms we virulently spouted on LDR.FM and made suitable changes for the re-release?
  18. You did film and editing, no? Come on, you should understand the brilliance of this editing. This is hilarious. H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S.
