  1. Harlem, you are a doll and a saint! :)

Guys, I figured out how to use the d/l links on the meth sunrise tumblr: type the URL www.mediafire.com/? (with the question mark) and then copy and add the rest of the code (the non-clickable part) :D

this has been overwhelming, y'all! so much to process and enjoy! ♥

  2. praise thee, evilentity, you are a master detective!!!!

i think it's pretty obvious that in the daily star interview she changed the teacher's gender because she was starting to be well-known, whereas in the repeat fanzine interview she was more open because she didn't think many people would pay attention - and much less analyze every minute detail - of what she shared.

    thank you, evil! :legend:

  3. yes! i think that, unlike most artists who need to feel sad or angry or depressed to write, lana can write happy(ish): think of "on our way" and "never let me go", or even "yayo" (although it's a bit more of a melancholy joy). of course some people, when truly content, no longer feel the need for creative catharsis. let's hope that's not the case for our dear lizzy lana! but above all, i want her to be happy ♥ may karma give back what she lost and repair the damage of the hatewave! :)

  4. p.s. maybe i'm being too optimistic but i have faith that our cultural differences will be celebrated and respected and the global homogenization will never come to be, despite the corporate will for it to be so, so that they may reach a globalized audience of consumers. internet can cause everything to seem to be progressively stewed in one big melting pot of sameness, negating the particular, but i think that perhaps it can have the opposite effect of enlightening us and connecting us.

sorry for my sunday morning meanderings of the mind! :D

  5. perhaps i'm wrong, but i interpreted that fluorine meant that this type of appropriation that strips things of their true meaning is rampant in this tumblr day and age, not that it's OK for it to be so. it's fundamental that we question everything and not accept the status quo and and just give up and shrug and think "that's just how things are". no way! this is a great discussion because it helped a lot of people transcend their individual, possibly uninformed perspective on this and other matters. lana herself has appropriated images just because they're beautiful to her and by changing their context gives them a new "artistic" connotation. her glamorization of the mob is terrible, for example, when you think of the people who are subjected to the tiranny of the mafia in italy (and worldwide). i think it's worthwile to debate and give things real thought. that's what i love about this forum: through themes that stem from lana-related discussions, everyone reflects on important issues and shares their views and in that, we are mutually enriched by other's outlooks and personal experiences and sometimes reconsider previous stances. hopefully all of this can lead to broadening our horizons and transcending the limitations of our geographical and mental locations :)

  6. this is an amazing challenge!

i love perfume and there should definitely be a lana del rey fragrance some day, much more so than many celebrities, because lana has a concept, and both style and substance. how cool would it be if they could get a talented perfumer to create a perfume that could evoke her music and her multifaceted personality through scent? something unconventional that could olfactively convey the spirit of her art. i imagine an alluring, mysterious scent that hints at a dark side, beautiful, glamorous yet slightly unsettling. it could be an oriental floral and perhaps it would feature a smoky accord (alluding to cigarettes and the smoke of the cabarets and nightclubs). on LDR.FM i once said i envisioned there being a lana perfume and a lizzy perfume. lizzy's would have a fun, pop art or retro americana packaging, and the juice itself would be fruity, with coney island caramel undertones, featuring a blue hydrangea note to give it an avant-garde touch. it might be less refined than lana's, playfully rebellious though suggestive of a hidden depth. i would hope both could be made with quality ingredients, not drugstore, aimed at perfume connoisseurs (like me) but accesible to anyone wanting to change their fragrant aura into something complex and dangerously attractive :)

good luck to the remaining competitors!

Music, essentially, is math. Though, of course, it’s so much more than that. But if you wanted to examine it from its fundamental core and a theoretical stance, it’s strictly math. It's no wonder that in ancient Greece, music, math, and philosophy were considered inseparable and, really, part of the same larger field of study. The magic and transcendence of just being pure math comes from that ineffable, unique quality that results from the creative combination and ordering of sounds, that which moves people emotionally. It's near impossible to determine why exactly you like something and dislike something else, and therein lies a lot of music's power.

"Math Rock" is kind of a misnomer and a bit of a silly term, i think. Why is it that playing in “odd” time signatures and shifting quickly between different time signatures is considered mathematical as opposed to music that stays in 4/4 the whole time? It’s like “Emo”--what music isn’t emotional? Instead of singling out a style of music for its heightened emotion, maybe there should be another term for denoting the few exceptions where emotion is deliberately avoided. Anyway, i digress from the digression.

I simultaneously believe that all music is experimental and that no music is experimental. It’s all experimental because isn’t that what anyone is doing when they sit down to write music--trying out ideas to see how they work? Some hired gun who comes on board to compose a song for Britney Spears--isn’t that person experimenting with different ways to construct something within a desired mold with a set goal, just as much as, say, Krzysztof Penderecki is experimenting when he sits down to write a crazy symphony with his own compositional goals in mind? They just have different functions and end points. But, on the other hand, isn’t everyone also following some general guide and pre-established framework when writing music? Experimental as a term to define music i think is hokey anyway, it’s more often than not (as is the case with Math Rock), more about having a certain sound and style than it is a general approach to constructing music. The great 20th century French composer Varese once said, “I do not write experimental music. My experimenting is done before I make the music. Afterwards, it is the listener who must experiment.” I love that quote. As you may imagine, the consensus considers his music to be wildly “experimental.” :D

monicker, i just love everything you said. i've thought about these matters but never put them into (eloquent) words. 100% agree! you should have a music column in a good publication (magazine/newspaper, etc). and then, one day they'd ask you to interview lana and it would all come full circle!

  8. Dude...what the hell happened to Elizabeth's lyrical skills? She was so good and it seems after she peaked she just went gradually downhill, but in such a short amount of time. Why did the quality of her writing drop so much? ¿Que paso con esta chica, coño?

¡qué pasó, indeed! seriously, she painted such amazing pictures with her words. but i guess that change in lyrical style (less metaphorical and profound, more straightforward and repetitive) was part of the transition into her lana del rey persona. it really is a pity. hopefully, she's still got it in her to re-connect with the "beautiful poet" side of her creativity. more of this and less of the poppy, "fun" but shallow 2011/12 leaked songs-style, please :)

  9. To me this sounds like a song she'd written after a relationship ended. Like- where are you Elvis? Cos that's her dream man and she needed his music to get her through <3 <3

    yes! (maybe post-mike?)

that's part of why i love this song, i can really relate - but replace elvis with jeff buckley or elliott smith, in my case :teehee:

  10. She's never been unattractive. Her nose job and lip injections don't account for great bone structure. You either have it or you don't. Her good looks are all hers, not the work of a surgeon.

exactly! that's why it's one thing to speculate if she would've been successful as her natural, "may jailer" self and another thing to imagine if she looked altogether different, with another ("plainer") face. i don't think lizzy has ever been homely, look at her highschool yearbook pic, she was really pretty :) i actually think she's more gorgeous without the big lips, but that's totally subjective.

  11. No absolutely not. She is very attractive imo, and it's helped her get to where she is. It's sad that it's that way, but tbh imagining an ugly Lana with her very different voice just wouldn't fly. I think she would be EXTREMELY unsuccessful. I would still like her for the music tho, that's what important to me, and what should be important to everyone. But I mean think about it, would One Direction or Justin Bieber be as well-liked if they weren't good-looking? No. Matter of fact.

i beg to differ! she wouldn't have been as successful and as popular as she now is, of course, but with her voice and songwriting she would not have been extremely unsuccessful! i think if she was "normal"-looking she would've received indie acclaim, i'm pretty sure of that, and more focus would've been on her music. you can bet her life would be more peaceful and calm and low-profile, that's for sure! but at the same time, she was unsatisfied with her moderate buzz of yore and she wanted this stardom - and she got it. it's a double-edged sword.

  12. No, and she wouldn't have as much to sing about either

i think she would have many other things to sing about (even though if she didn't feel pretty she'd probably be a different person in many respects). i think she has a sensitive soul and a talent with words, both in poetry and prose, so it's likely she'd be writing and singing from a very emotional and sharp, witty perspective, perhaps heightened by being able to live more under the radar, in a way. who knows? ^_^

  13. i think it helped and hindered her, depending from where you look at it. it helped in garnering younger fans and fashion folk, but it was detrimental for her "authenticity" and "credibility" and led to backlash, especially because the changes she's made to her appearance are obvious, not only compared to the existing past footage but because contrived and artificial usually don't captivate the more "serious" music aficionados. i always thought that if thom yorke had been conventionally good-looking, radiohead would have never attained the level of reverence they did. personally, when i saw "video games" i thought she was striking, but what impacted and captured me was 100% the song and that beautiful voice. so although we'll never really know, i think if we're talking success as in getting contracts and shifting units and achieving fashion maven status, then yes, it helped her.

EDIT: this got me thinking and in general, less bombshell/more homely looks guarantee more respect, and i consider that that inverted-prejudice is unfair (even though the "beautiful people" have it easier in general in this superficial society we live in). why can't a gorgeous girl/guy make profound art? in music especially, appearance should be secondary, but, well, today more people listen to songs by watching them on youtube than on stereos/record players/devices. :defeated:

  14. Found an interview- Lana- but it explains Diet Mt Dew and possibly Lana's unreleased/unleaked song "Greenwich"- which proves, at least to me, that Diet Mt Dew, Axl Rose Husband, and Greenwich are about Mike.

"Diet Mtn Dew I wrote at a time when I was really happy. I’d met someone who was perfect for me, and one of the funny things at the time was that he actually drank Diet Mtn Dew, just like me and my dad. I had never met anyone who drank specifically Diet Mtn Dew! We had taken a trip to Greenwich, Connecticut, and it was time to go home and he said “Diet Mtn Dew babe? New York city?” For some reason I just… That was the only line I had “Diet Mtn Dew baby, New York city…” Then he was like “you’re so pretty” as I smiled."

    http://www.ilikemusi...ew/Lana_Del_Rey

    That made me smile :flutter:

Also smh at her calling KOL & DtMTDEW fluff

"To be honest, Diet Mtn Dew and Kinda Outta Luck aren’t even going to be on the record. I sort of put them up on the internet because I could, because they wouldn’t be on the record. In my mind they’re sort of just fluff. The real record is different. It’s a bit darker, but it’s beautiful."

TPD, you are an amazing investigator! 1e2f7_ORIG-bowdown_gif.gif

    two comments:

remember how evilentity found arthur lynn's blog and there it said he loved "diet mountain dew" and also, there was a private post titled "diet mountain dew"? hmmm...

+ guess who has a jewish last name? michael mizrahi! :O

the thing is, if "jump" were about him then he didn't meet her when he interviewed her, because by then she'd already recorded AKA! maybe they were already seeing each other and she was the other woman? this line in "axl rose husband" (which we can agree is about mike m.) always struck me:

    You’re my king Jewish maven

    Kids on vacation

    Florida Keys are calling

it could be innocent, like "kids are on vacation in florida this time of the year" or it could be that his (or his GF/wife's) kids were on vacation, so since they're away, let's holiday in the Florida Keys! or maybe i'm pushing it

  15. i love this song so much. when i get home i'll check that flame part :)

    this verse always kills me:

Should I happen to meet you

    Downtown, or see you

    I would fall down dead

    I’m bereaved by you

    Bereaved by you

who couldn't identify with that at some point in their lives? :(

  16. We should thank Lanafan 9277 for coming up with this link, I also have never seen it before. It does throw in a few more pieces in the "million-piece puzzle" that is Lana. I think for Radio she is not really saying that a boyfriend came back, but rather that someone she knew (a friend?) was back in her life. However, the person she describes towards the end of the interview really seems to fit MM.

i didn't know Lanafan9277 had found it! :aw: Props and thanks to her! :)

i also assumed it was a friend (maybe a past ex?)...i wonder if MM was into community outreach...he just seems like such a DUDE in the videos i've seen of him, but i obviously don't know him to make such a snap judgment.

  17. I need all interested in this topic to watch this interview NOW. I've never seen it: https://www.facebook...v=3224525245356

So I guess "Radio" is about someone who came back into her life--who thought that they were done but now they want her even more? ;)

sitar HERO! i hadn't seen that interview either! she is so eloquent and straightforward there, i love it!!! i recall another wonderful italian interview that was more about the record and her writing process and production (which means it's made for monicker - i'll look for it and post it), and there she said that the italian interviewers had been the best so far, cuz they asked such interesting questions (but now i'm observing what she's wearing and that means the one you posted is french, right? so i guess europeans just do it better ;) )

i also wonder who came back into her life. is it the ex boyfriend whose couch she was sleeping on around the time of the release of BTD? i think the relationship that is thematically underlying most of BTD is with jimmy, but i may be wrong
