  1. To the Homeland fans on here: Let's all discuss the greatness of this show, BOW to Carrie Mathison, and Brody...oohhh Brody, I have mixed feelings about you. If you haven't seen or heard about this show; you will. (FYI: It will make you go insane) Check it out if you like :D

    tumblr_mbfqwlAVbU1r7tvmdo1_500.jpg

my feelings exactly, on carrie AND brody! i am so glad season 2 has finally started. this is one of the best shows on TV right now ♥

  2. YES TO ALL OF THESE! I knew someone would mention The Zombies' TOTS. I heard that snippet, loved it, then bought the original song. I think she can do Leonord Cohen's "Hallelujah".

yes, and she would be flawless, but "hallelujah"'s been so covered (heck, even on "american idol" :toofloppy: ) that i'd rather listen to her make another song her own ♥

she loved jeff, too, so it's not impossible

  3. Dream Brother by Jeff Buckley of course

i can totally see her singing that amazing song! but also giving her spin on jeff's nina simone cover, "lilac wine":

another i think could be perfect for her is the beautiful, heartbreaking "i know we could be so happy baby (if we wanted to be)":

and one she sang a snippet of in a BBC radio interview (and slayed): the zombies' "time of the season" ♥

  4. Smarty and Yayo are my favorites from AKA.

I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but I love it when Lana sings higher pitched than usual, I really prefer it to her regular singing. That's one of the reasons I love Lucky Ones so much. I really love Daddy Issues too, I know a lot of people don't. I feel like my favorites are hated by everyone else. :creep:

I also really like the production on Burning Desire and Ride. I know a bunch of people were complaining about the "gritty" or "heavy" sound of the songs, but that's how they were made to sound. Burning Desire is husky and sexy, so it's going to be gritty and heavy. Ride is kind of a busy mess towards the end, and I think that was intentional for the emotional build of the song. Am I the only one who thinks this? I think a lot of people are just so used to the glossy production from BTD that these songs just sound weird to them because it's not as polished as BTD was, that it's a new sound.

100% completely agree! the production on burning desire (♥) and ride creates this heavy, pulsating ambiance that really goes with the vibe of the songs.

also: this morning listening to lizzy, i was thinking about how much i want her, as lana, to - at least occasionally - go back to her higher-pitched singing! she has good range, and her lower register is sultry, but she sounds much more effortless and natural, imho, when she sings in "treble-y" tones :) damn those managers that advised her to sing in a huskier voice so people would take her more seriously! (though it seems they were right? :imbeingsarcasticbitch2: )

  5. congrats lily, you absolutely rock! i loved your interview ♥

i have to comment that i am so intrigued by this:

20.) What's something not many people know about you?/What's something that we would be surprised to learn about you?

I know my future. Should I develop? Okay, I have a magical book that my gramma gave to me because I was obsessed with it. I used to be skeptic and have my mom decipher it for me for fun but everything it predicted for my mom, dad and bro happened, i'm waiting in line.

if possible (and not secret) i would love to know more about this (and you should definitely write your own "gramma" song, because she sounds like a legend! :))

  6. http://pitchfork.com...7-lana-del-rey/

    http://thequietus.co...l-rey-interview

Nothing explicit about overdosing, though I remember thinking the same thing when I read it.

i read so many interviews last year and never anticipated a lana forum, thus i didn't save most of the links :toofloppy: but those two are the first that came to mind - thanks EE! :) also...if some lana songs are biographical, well..."heavy hitter", anyone?

I was lounging at the Chateau Marmont

    Glimmering by the swimming pool

My man walked in like a slow motion movie

    I said "You're so cool"

    I heard a man screaming

    Lights, camera, action

    I c-c-can't remember what happened

    I overdose,

You throw me over your shoulder

I was dying, you were screaming

    Open up that Lambourghini

  7. Maybe Die refers to the emotional state she was in when she left him. Or Die in the sense that the alcohol-maybe-drug-filled Lizzy he used to know no longer existed when she decided to "live her life right" to be "a good person".

YESSSS ... like in Jump "last thing I saw before I died" I doubt she actually died and came back 2 life lmao

and 'dead like you' in dark paradise I think she may mean emotionally.. like unfeeling for all the bad things they were doin. its a dark paradise bc shes havin so much fun but what they were doing was bad etcetcetc

if i can find it, i think i recall her saying that she was saved by god a million times and that she literally died for a few seconds after an overdose (this was kind of implied). i like you guys's poetic interpretation better, but the dying she refers to may be both figurative or symbolic AND alternately literal.

  8. The still used for the stereo mix YouTube video makes me wonder what auto-tuned animal noises Emile Haynie would have put on an album entitled Pet Sounds. Or imagine "Good Vibrations" with auto-tuned loon instead of an Electro-Theremin.

The mono mix brings back memories of when I first fell in love with pop music during my oldies phase in grade school. After I'd go to bed, I'd turn on my crappy alarm clock radio just loud enough to hear it well and just quiet enough to avoid my parents' detection. I'd listen late into the night, marking off songs I'd heard on a Top 1000 Oldies list printed on an advert in the local paper for the oldies station, checking them off one by one by the light of a flashlight hidden under my pillow. Ah, memories...

♥ such a lovely, warm remembrance, evil! and such a horrible sonic nightmare, imagining the emile haynie-produced "pet sounds"! *shudder*

  9. thank you for master class, monicker! it is such a luxury to have both mono and stereo versions of an album. "pet sounds" and the zombies' "odessey and oracle" are two i love, and, personally, in both i prefer the mono. if lana does this, it would be amazing, sonically and because it would introduce a new-"old" concept in audio and maybe develop a better sensibility and appreciation and attention to detail in a generation not accustomed to that :)

  10. I actually own a lot of the same clothes as Lana, some by pure coincidence hMmMm i'd have 2 b lizzy tho cus i have the hair

yay for hallowizzy! or lizzoween! :D

off topic: trailerparkdarling, i can't stop staring at your sig! such beauty ♥

  11. What if it was a Diet MTN Dew demo, but recorded with the Phenomena?!

what if this trilogy is about the three most important loves of her life?

    It makes sense, doesn't it?

YES! it really does. her 3 great loves, each represented by one of the songs. I agree: BTD-Jimmy / VG-Mike / Blue Jeans-K.

    Sitar: Wayne_sWorld-We_renotworthy.gif

isn't it awesome how - even though lana can be vague and dodgy - she has given us good clues? ;)

  12. Wait, that opening riff is on the studio version from 2008. Do we even know whose was written/recorded first?!?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MryB1A99ls

Lana's AKA album was released in 2010, but wasn't it shelved for a couple of years? That would put it as ready for release in 2008?

i meant that (fantasizing) maybe jimmy thought of the riff when lana was writing her song, or contributed that intro (this is assuming they were together in that time), and thus, he felt free to re-use it in "saints" :) just pure speculation, based on the fact that the opening riff is identical to lizzy's song.

  13. hey! this is the place for some relationship info (and speculation) i posted on the LANA SLEUTHING thread, so i'm copying it here:

(...) if the ex-boyfriend(s) knew her 5 years ago, it would've been 2007 and i speculated it could be jimmy gnecco or reeve carney, but i didn't think of arthur lynn, her guitarist in "lizzy and the phenomena"! she *allegedly* had a fling with him, but who knows?

    tumblr_lset3riMId1r0lfe2o1_500.jpg

still, i hope it's jimmy they talked to  now, he's never explicitly referred to lizzy/lana, and we have no photos of them together, but when i heard his song "saints" (written for jeff buckley ♥) that he performed live in 2011 with reeve, and the intro *was* "little girls/put me in a movie" that's a confirmation of sorts to me. maybe he inspired that riff and loved it and thought, "hell, i wanna use it"? along with lizzy's posting of "yayo" on his facebook wall way back when, dedicated to he of the blue ink snake tatoo, and the songs she refers to him by name, well...it's proof enough for me that they were together ;)

THERE'S MORE INFO, like the (quite telling) link to arthur's blog by evilentity and the much awaited screenshot of lizzy's post of "yayo" on jimmy gnecco's facebook back in 2009 by trailerparkdoll in the LANA SLEUTHING thread. sitar, you can copy that and all the relevant new details over here, right? all hail the nancy drews and sherlocks of the forum! :legend:

  14. Found this.. (I didn't screenshot it, I just googled)

    424929_236877136400404_204224069665711_524908_715401140_n.jpg

(crying b/c her default pic is a picture of my boyfriend how sweet of her)

trailerparkdarling, you are a god!!! the diety of online sleuthing! :legend:

i had seen that same image when it hadn't yet been deleted and also thought, how lovely she had jim and pam as her profile pic! your boyfriend is ♥ ;) i'm so glad you found it (see, sitar, we weren't crazy!)

now i see why lizzy said the he was the worst she'd ever seen: jimmy really was mean! i mean, to get posted such a beautiful song, inspired by and dedicated to you, and not even give it a thumbs up?? that is COLD! :whoopi:

  15. one more little thing before i (finally) go to sleep:

May Jailer was born Elizabeth Grant in New York City and grew up in Lake Placid, New York. When she was 14, she attended Kent School, a boarding school in Connecticut. She has Scottish ancestry, and is the daughter of domain investor Rob Grant, who supported her in her early career as a singer.

At age 18, her uncle taught her how to play guitar, beginning with basic chords: “It was G, C, A, D minor, A minor and some diminished chord as well. Some trick, some shortcut,” May recalled. “I realized I could probably write a million songs with those six chords, so I moved to New York and I took a couple of years to just write whatever I wanted. ” She began performing in clubs while living in the city.

i loved the last part on her guitar beginnings (those are the first chords i learned as well!!) and had never read this before!

found it searching the may jailer tag on tumblr :)

    http://ldrakalizzygr...ant-in-new-york

  16. RIGHT!? I wanna know which ones.

me too! like i said above, if the ex-boyfriend(s) knew her 5 years ago, it would've been 2007 and i speculated it could be jimmy gnecco or reeve carney, but i didn't think of arthur lynn, her guitarist in "lizzy and the phenomena"! she *allegedly* had a fling with him, but who knows?

P.S. sitar, should this be in LANALYSIS?

  17.

i always loved that interview :flutter:

here's something i re-read recently that sheds some light on what really went down behind lana's departure from 5 points records and the way the new management (it's obvs he's talking about ben) un-did her deal with them and were adamant to take LDRAKALG off the (virtual) shelves:

http://www.mtvhive.c...cords-interview (thanks to your link, trailerparkdarling, we know that david nichtern was not only head of the label but also one of america's foremost buddhist meditation teachers!)

also, since i haven't seen it posted here, a 2010 interview with one of the local adirondacks papers: http://www.adirondac...1.html?nav=5050

(evidence that her dad did help her, if not financially, to market the album - and i don't think there's anything wrong with that, he's a fan of what his daughter does and he supports her.)

  18. Not working, what is this?

The boyfriends! Meaning he got to actually meet them and ask them about her? HOW?!

that is exactly what i thought! damn these dudes (or dudettes, cuz the spin interviewer is jessica hopper) for not including some of the most interesting parts (for us *lanalyzers*) of her history in the final article! i always considered it weird that no one asks her about her past loves in a more direct way (especially because a couple of them are kind of famous). these little extra bits show that they have asked her and that she actually gave up the names, so they were contacted and actually answered questions and commented on her, on the record! why do they not publish these things? boo!!! :(

it would save us so much time and energy spent on sleuthing, wouldn't it?

    S7rFJ.gif

imagine:100% facts and no more (or at least less) speculation!

  19. http://tiny.abstract...ves/011902.html

I wanna know about the cigarette burning.. haha!

awesome little facts! i want to know who the ex-boyfriends were, ha! if they met her "5 years ago" from 2012, that would make it 2007, so...did they talk to jimmy gnecco? or reeve carney? was the cigarette-burned A&R van wilson? o_O (EDIT: re-read and no, it's probably her current one.)

the spin interviewer left out the best bits, imo!

  20. Ruby Tuesday is rill rill (although this doesn't prove that it could've just been a Rolling Stone's cover or the title for a song we already know about .. ex. Hundred Dollar Bill Demo/EMGHW)

    u9Kk7.png

that's the msypace post i'd read on archive.org that i'd referred to when i talked about wanting "ruby tuesday"! and then some people were like "it's not a song/it doesn't exist"! :wtf:

thanks darling for screencapping it :)
