Vinyl Collectors/Enthusiasts

Recommended Posts

so i noticed there's that one user's welcome thread focusing on their vinyl collection, and i was thinking "huh i wonder if LB has a thread dedicated to vinyl enthusiats" and shockingly....it does not

i've been collecting records for nearly two years now (and i have the complete lana discog + AKA, not counting special edition/picture disk releases). maybe i'll post pictures later but that's a lot of work for right now

feel free to discuss vinyl here, audiophiles to aesthetes, and drop pictures of your setups and/or collections!

**no elitism please. there is enough of that on r/vinyl**

I adore vinyls. It's so extremely satisfying and I'm gonna be unbearably presumptuous but as a designer to have objects that are works of arts by themselves. It's easy to screw up a CD design but with vinyl, with the format and the material itself and of course everything that's associated to it the analog quality the vintage feels etc, you automatically put a lot more work into it. I absolutely love the fact that you can colour them though. Just think of Father John Misty's designs... I started designing stuff with vinyl concepts and I'll forever be grateful for it

That being said! I own most of Lana's vinyls (my UV boxset is so precious to me that I categorically refuse to touch it without white gloves), I miss the Para boxset, the BTD pictures disks, the heart-shaped LFL single, and the blue BTD and that's all I think? I also own a few of other artists but I'm really just starting to build my collection, I have all of CocoRosie (including one of my most precious items, the Noah's Ark record signed by Bianca Casady - if you want an idea of what she means to me, I have her name tattooed on my right thigh) except Grey Oceans because I'm saving for the super expensive / rare electric blue pressing:

6998.jpg?1389004682

I have also a single from them, and a single from MØ, still saving up for her deluxe LP.

My whishlist for now is:

_ always the Lana stuff on the list especially Para boxset

_ Caro Emerald because her sound is MADE for vinyl

_ 1989, don't judge me

_ Two Feet

_ Blue Neighbourhood

_ Dangerous Woman

_ Booba (a french gangsta rapper bc the contrast is dope)

_ Nekfeu (a french hip hop artist that loves analog)

_ complete Nina Simone works

_ complete Barbara works

_ complete Muse works

_ I don't remember if I have the CD or the LP, because I do have Electra Heart LP and TFJ CD, but definitely TFJ
_ as I mentioned Grey Oceans
_ I would love to own anything designed by my favourite designer ever, David Rudnick

One of my biggest ambitions is I would really love for the 5th year anniversary of Ultraviolence to get myself a custom pressing of it that I would have designed myself. Like an unique piece that I could personally relate to. I'm ready to drop 200 on that. I want it so bad. I also REFUSE to get the bootleg AKA I think it's sorta stupid if it's upscaled and not official, but I'm definitely getting my own design (retouched cuz it mostly sucks lol) that I made for it pressed one day, just to prove myself I made it

I'm definitely not a vinyl enthusiast in the sense of being an audiophile, but I loooove collecting them. There's just something about physically owning a body of work, complete with the 12"x12" cover, ideally a huge booklet to admire, and of course the record itself. I don't know, for me music is such an important aspect of my life, I want to own the actual thing and I also think that listening to a vinyl record is much more of an conscious activity than just scrolling through releases on Spotify.

Regarding the sound – yes, listening to a vinyl record is different than listening to an MP3, but I don't think this always means it's better. Some albums are so poorly mastered that I legit never listen to them, which is a shame, of course. However, sometimes the opposite is the case and something sounds so good on vinyl that it's an actual revelation. For me, this happened earlier this year when I finally got the 2016 reissue of Kylie Minogue's 1994 album. Now you have to know that the first track on this album – Confide In Me – was already my absolute number one Kylie song before this and I knew how amazing the production is. But when I put on that record for the first time and the one-minute intro was playing, I swear, my wig was snatched! I could hear things that I had never heard before and the song suddenly became a lot deeper and, I don't know, lush. And like I said, that's one of my favourite songs, so I thought I had heard everything there was to hear. So it's really fascinating how a different format can enhance a song in such a way, which is obviously something that, unlike vinyl, you will never have with digital music.

Also, shoutout to coloured vinyl and picture discs AKA the prettiest things in the world.

I'm in a huge impulsive manic phase, I'm listening to this track on a loop and I just got this fucking baby. I'm a HUMONGOUS David Rudnick stan since a year. Fav graphic designer of all time. He's basically my personal hero. I'm insanely happy to soon own something designed by him, and some of my absolute favourite thing he's ever done nonetheless, like this is better than porn to me

Listen to the track because it's out of this universe - literally

I will post some pictures of my favourite vinyl records once I'm back home for Christmas, but I just wanted to share that I got the Bop City: Bopular (A Collection Of Our Most Well Regarded Bops) vinyl by Terror Jr today and I just love what they did with it.

http://instagram.com/p/BmTkHUOh0Xs/

It basically comes with four different inserts, so you can change the cover to whatever you like best, which I think is just a really cute idea. I also love the purple colour it comes in, and the fact that there's a hype sticker saying "100 % Terrible" on it.

I just bought the collector edition of Yelle's Safari Disco Club and her BOPS EP consisting of her last 4 (amazing) singles.

Now I'm only missing Complètement Fou because I waited too long to buy it from her shop...  :toofunny:

Are you by chance French? It always surprises me when non-French people genuinely like her music because she's kind of a joke here haha. But I must admit, I haven't really listened to her since she was charting 10y ago. Omg I'm so old

Yes, I'm french canadian lmao! I always thought she was a mess because I discovered her with Parle à ma main in duet with Fatal Bazooka (yikes), but when she released Complètement Fou, I fell in love with the video's aesthetic and her whole musical genre.
