Song history game

Recommended Posts

I have an idea for a game that I hope some of you will like. The only name I can think of for it without it being too long is the Song History Game.

  1. Choose a song starting with the letter that was given
  2. Explain the history you have with that song      (such as when you discovered it, how much you like it/how often you listen, and any memories with that song)
  3. Give another letter for the next player

Example:

K

Karma Police by Radiohead

I remember discovering the song in 2013 when i just got into Radiohead. I listened to it a lot on a 2 week holiday that I went on, so it always reminds me of being alone, sorta sad but kinda accepting it. I still listen to it when it's on shuffle. It gives me of Mariner's Apartment Complex vibes so when MAC came out I listened to them back to back a lot.

You Never Satisfy Me (unreleased) by Avril Lavigne

I saw her in concert (2014) and somehow reminded me of the time when Girlfriend came out when I was around 10 years old. After that show in 2014, I started listening to more of her and noticed that she has a lot of great B-Sides/unreleased songs that never made it to the official albums. This is one of the unreleased songs of her and it always reminds me of my senior year of high school and the year 2014. Not the best year/period of my life but I would say it was.... something.

Listened to it since 2014 when I discovered her. I remember playing it in the car with my ex boyfriend and he told me to turn it off cause he didn't like it and that upset me :')

no surprises - radiohead

this song reminds me of being alone on my couch over thanksgiving break, having just come out of a hypomanic episode. i hadn't talked to anyone in a few days and was just in a really weird emotional headspace, and i just put this song on repeat and cried for like 3 hours for no real reason...fun times amirite

Everytime by Britney Spears

I remember it being one of the first kind of sad/depressing songs I knew as a kid and I always liked it and remember watching the video of it all the time on TV. It might even have been the first kind of sad song I ever liked and since have always preferred that type of music.

Love, by Lana

- Discovered it when it leaked not even gonna lie. Went out w friends at night hunting down the Love posters, took a piece of it too on the day it was raining bc it was legit pulling itself off. Would visit the star center and just listen to it during sunset hikes, or just at night at this special spot I'd go to alone. Made me legit happy cry this one time, bc my lust for life wasn't all that high. Listen to it every once in a while when I feel like it. It's a nice track that reminds me that life's still worth living, among other reasons

Next letter, R.

* @@Ultra Violet, idk that I was quoted, but great thread bud !

Omg sorry! I was trying to get the format to do a quote in the original post, so I went on the most recent comment on a random thread to grab the code and it just happened to be yours, then I accidentally kept you in the quote, my bad lmao

Razors Edge by Digital Daggers.

Used to listen lots when I was very depressed and it made me feel better cause the vocalist has a bright voice and it's such a smooth, well produced song I could actually enjoy every element of it, not just dark lyrics.

forgiveness - patty griffin

the whole album this is from is one of the very first albums i ever really fell in love with, and i still love it just as much. this song in particular has an atmosphere i can't describe, but the lyrics are gorgeous and kind of weirdly heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. it reminds me of the winter where i grew up, dark and cold all the time and forcing you to rely on the people around you for warmth and sanity

Feels by Kiiara : visual accompanyment -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6US7RN74D0k

Was introduced to it from a friend I used to know. Jived w it bc I have a lot of feels that I've learned to keep to myself, quite literally. I strangely actually like the remixes of it a bit more, and this strangely calms me down and focuses me

Divide by The Birthday Massacre

Such 80s influence, mixed with a fantasy story. Still one of my favourite songs since 2014. It makes me think of some Dreamland with mythical creatures and the underworld.

Brooklyn Baby

When it came out I played it over a weekend of me sunbathing on the balcony. It was accompanied by a great interview, I don't remember which one but it was right after BB's release and it was such a nice weekend. It's so simple and something we'd overlook, but I remember it like it was yesterday

American by Lana. It’s such a beautiful, warm song and is one of my favorite songs by Lana. I was sitting in my bed, looking out the open window and listening to it, it was one of the most peaceful and magical moments ever. And then by friend called a ruined the moment. Still a great memory tho, and I still love the song.

Wonderful Life by Black.

My 1st grade teacher used to play it whenever we were supposed to relax after an activity. We would all close our eyes and just listen and float away.

Now I'm 22 and whenever I hear it on the radio I feel that certain calmness. Such a special song for my brain lol

I love this game!

Sad Dream - Sky Ferreira

I first heard this song in my senior year of high school. I love the whole Ghost EP, so it was one of the songs that "saved" me during the darkest period of my life.

Nesting Behaviour by Mother

I discovered it the year it came out. I was looking for new album releases and found this indie rock band. The album is extremely depressing, but this song is just... something else. It doesn't remind me of anything in particular, but it makes me feel such emptiness. It's so damn slow also, and low-key similar to Shades of Cool.
