MARINA (and The Diamonds)

timeline from the wiki:
march - revealed she wrote 15 songs but only recorded 14
april - wanted to add 7 songs
may - thought of a 'new name' and wanted 4-5 songs, mentioned she had 'a few' songs that didn't make the tracklist but were 'really fitting' for the repackage
june - unsure about a repackage, but we'd 'definitely':toofloppy: get 1 more song from the (original?) froot sessions
july - in the studio
august - an interview was published where she said she'd scrapped the repackage (not sure when the interview took place though)

now we know that wytac was recorded maybe she went back to finish that? true colours og file leaked and that had metadata of 2014 so it was not for the repackage. I think it was for the worlds aids day thing, and probably recorded about the time as the acoustics? the production sounds similar to me.

she was kind of busy with touring and everything so maybe she realised how unrealistic her plans were on her schedule? then her dad and other family members got sick and her grandmother and great aunt(?) passed away, she said she was essentially 'trapped' on tour:(

wow that’s crazy I had no idea. I wonder what those songs were? I feel like all Froot tracks have a pretty distinguishable sound/vocal delivery/writing so I’m veeery interested in knowing what they sounded like. Though I doubt she’s gonna do anything with those

I listened to I'm A Ruin yesterday after a long time and I was overwhelmed by the amount of nostalgia. I used to listen to it all the time when I was 13 and 14. Even though, I didn't relate to the song at all but the song carried this bittersweet sadness which made me feel like I was inside it. In another universe, like an escapism. The whole Froot album made me feel like that.

well we know the 15 songs she wrote were the 12 on froot, wytac, saviour and inha based on the recording list. the fact she went from 7 songs to 4-5 songs in a few weeks implies, to me at least, that she was thinking of writing more for froot rather than having a backlog of songs to use, because using the three she already had and writing 1-2 more songs is more realistic than 4 more songs, especially as it took her two years to write 15 by herself. although I think it would have been cool to have a new song for each 'froot', not that the froots really have much meaning (also it's funny to me all froot songs got a froot but not all electra heart songs got given an archetype)

i hope someone leaks wytac for froot's 10 year anniversary if it's not released. I think inha has the potential to be released due to some of the comments she's made, but we'll see if she's been marina liemandis again. I can't see her pulling out wytac considering we only ever knew it existed because david kosten tweeted the recording list, and until that 'i wrote 15 songs' interview was found we thought it was a demo for forget or something. I'm not sure if we'll get saviour but pairing it with inha as a 'missing' pink (dragon)froot would be cute!

I was not convinced WYTAC was real until we got the snippet tbh… although obviously the idea that it was a demo for forget didnt really make sense except for the fact that forget wasn’t on the list (but that could have been explained by the fact that forget was the last song to be made).

I honestly don’t see her doing anything for the anniversary unfortunately, considering she did nothing for TFJ and re issued EH as it was. In my DREAMS there would be a Froot re issue with all the scrapped songs + true colors + froot demo but for some reason she seems to hate revisiting her career. I’m sure the production of the anniversary edition of EH wasn’t even handled by her but rather by a team

not that her word can be taken for an 100% assurance of anything, but she has said twice that it is happening. on the 9th anniversary, and a few months ago she liked a comment about putting inha on the 10 year vinyl & digital edition (this was before she brought it up on tour again too)

I do agree that the 10 year anniversary of both tfj & eh were likely pushed by her label, the first we knew anything of the platinum edition were those screenshots of spotify ads, I thought was someone trolling:rip: (also someone speculated that it was to have those albums under atlantic as they were under 679 before, so it might have been something done to get her out of her contract?) I think the cover art was uninspired considering it's her best photoshoot, and not having all the songs on vinyl is ridiculous, what kind of anniversary edition is that? people would have bought a 3LP or it could have been a 2LP with a mini heart vinyl or something (I have no idea how vinyl works)

When You Take Away Control being a real song and not a random Forget demo... I got the last laugh. WHEN YOU TAKE AWAY CONTROL TRUTHERS, RISE! I'm pretty sure the song is kind of shit or just rough like Savior but ok.

I have no idea if something is really happening but mainly because;;;; label. She might have been interested, but I'm not sure everybody will be like "sure luv you left us after your contract expired but we'll help you celebrate your beloved third album <3". Platinum Blonde literally came 1 month before she announced she was going independent as well nn.

Does anyone have a Merna Masterpost? Kinda craving some demos & outtakes right now.

well they’d get a cut of the profits right? no company is really going to turn that down. I know Charli was younger when she was signed but she said that Atlantic had the rights to her music or something, I expect Marina’s contract would be similar even if there’s a better split/contract in place. people have been begging for more froot vinyls forever so even just a regular repress of froot would sell really well I think.

They do get a (great?) cut of profits, but I'm a Little Ferrari and I see Labels as organizations from hell that are here to trap the artists! Just kidding... sort of. Marina hinted before that her relationship with label wasn't really 100%  and being able to "leave them, not going back" probably stings the suit men a little, so I'm just not very confident they'll be helpful celebrating her catalog. At least she kind of does have a strong fanbase appeal, but the costs of these things (especially if they're planning something beyond a vinyl repress, like new songs being add-ed) will always shake the table.

I also believe there's a little aggravation that both The Family Jewels and Electra Heart were able to penetrate the public consciousness with the TikTok trends in a way that Froot still hasn't... aka they were more commercially viable to market since they were fresh into people's mind. So maybe it's time to make I'm Not Hungry Anymore viral so we can get a nice treat!

people ask about her vinyls ALL THE TIME on reddit so I don’t think it would be an issue repressing them. Like, there’s probably a market for at least one repress

Yeah the vinyl missing some songs was CRAZY I don’t think I’ve ever seen a physical copy of an album omit some songs because “they don’t fit”. Like just make a third disc if they don’t fit. and also they took out BTS for that???

I think the issue is Marina (just like Lana) doesn’t really care to expand her releases with outtakes or scraps like other artists do. Take Florence for example. Every album has a deluxe edition with like 5-6 new songs and she did a pretty good anniversary edition of Lungs too

Oh yeah a repress is always plausible (They did one in Argentina like... 2 years ago?), it's just that it looks like a flop anniversary thing. No point in teasing it for a year if we're not getting any new content with it (which is "the issue" since they'd need to produce new plates, "remaster" these outtakes/different songs, etc.)

If the original release was a single disc, they could do it like Allie X and just press a second disc with all the songs. And if there's not enough songs, they could fill the rest with the acoustic versions etc, but I'm just a big skeptical they'll spend any extra money.

oohhh I get it because they would need to go out if their way to create the stamp for the vinyl right? and since it would be a different vinyl than Froot they would need a new stamp.

well we’ll see I guess

I don't even think Marina was involved with the anniversary of EH. She either had nothing to say ab it or she told Atlantic they can do what they want, she ain't gonna think of that exhausting era ever again.
