Nnnn, to be completely honest, I find True to be much more interesting than some songs on L+F, even than EYL. 

 

Lyrically is less shallow and the europop production is a slay 🕺 also very catchy

Does anyone else feel this special connection to Love + Fear? Like I know that in terms of creativity of lyricism and production this album is weak but funny thing is I love this album and nothing can make me hate it. It's probably because of my own personal reasons when it was released but damn, I still occasionally listen to it. I loooove the ballads in it.

 

My favorite tracks are Emotional Machine, End Of The Earth, Soft To Be Strong, Handmade Heaven, To Be Human, Believe In Love, Superstar and Too Afraid. I love the crystal clear sound in those tracks. And I love the introspective lyricism in some of these. The world-building in Handmade Heaven is simply dreamy. Life Is Strange, Enjoy Your Life, Karma and True fell into the "meh" category for me where I don't like either the production or the lyrics. Like I love the production of Life Is Strange but the lyrics are basic but while I love the quirkiness of Karma, I don't like the production because it's too idk Clean Bandit-y tropical pop to me.

 

I don't like Baby and I don't listen to it but again I've got very special connection to it because of the time it was released. This song in general feels like a fever dream lmao. No More Suckers and You are the only songs I don't like at all and don't listen to. I consider Orange Trees basic but I don't necessarily hate it but again, I don't listen to it as well.

Can’t actually agree the lyrics are cringe, tbh this type of lyrics remind me of her old style quite a lot. When she didn’t take herself too seriously, if you compare these lyrics with some from TFJ, EH and FROOT they fit quite right tbh

I feel like these lyrics have the same silly vibes as some of past unserious songs (E.V.O.L, BB, Homewrecker). I guess that's why many people think this is her most Electra Heart-esque song released so far. Even the way she sings in some parts sound a bit tender and unserious like she did on EH.

I agree, sometimes I think about how there's a couple of songs/lyrics in her earlier discography that if she had released them now she'd get dragged for being cringe and a bad writer. But in all honesty, while I don't think she's the greatest writer, I do think she gets judged on a bit of a curve because people seem to over-nostalgize and romanticize her older work.

 

Like I don't particularly care for L+F but in the grand scheme of pop music they're generally decent and digestible songs, mediocre sure, but not unlistenable trash in the way that a lot of people like to act like they are.
