What is everyone’s fave Tori album? Mine is Scarlet’s Walk followed by close tie of Choirgirl Hotel and Little Earthquakes. Sorry if this topic has been done to death. I’m not that familiar with her stuff from 2009 on. Not sure why, but her earlier records just hit different.

Boys For Pele  that album, and Tori's music in general, kinda sorta changed my life and I haven't felt such a surge of strong emotions when listening to her songs since like discovering Lana for example. From The Choirgirl Hotel is a second favourite of mine too!

The first 7 albums of her career (yes I am including Strange Little Girls in this lol, Tori's covers are so underrated) are really the holy grail. As for her work after Scarlet's Walk, I have dabbled a bit into American Doll Posse and I remember quite liking Bouncing Off Clouds, Programmable Soda and Digital Ghost.

Anyone heard the new (old) Scarlet’s Hidden Treasures? I hadn’t heard it before it was released on streaming last week, and I’m obsessed. It’s so good and most of the songs would have easily fit on Scarlet’s Walk in place of others. Also, I just got my red Amazon version of the 2023 remaster of Scarlet’s Walk and it’s gorgeous.

UTP is a great album but the middle portion of it is a MESS... from past the mission to the waiter it gets way to repetitive and dull IMO (considering how versatile and varied the rest is I mean).

you should also check out the other tracks she wrote for the album like:

  1. here. in my head (which was released as a b side for little earthquakes)
  2. sister janet
  3. honey (which should've gone on the album)

update now!

i’m all in. i’ve been reading interviews for each song on yessaid and am taking my TIME with this!! absorbing and feeling everything. i went back to Little Earthquakes and had time with that and the b-sides, now I’m on the UTP b-sides.

Currently, my favorites are Flying Dutchman, Winter, Precious Things, Mary, Honey, Cornflake Girl, and the live version of Sugar on Venus Live, Still Orbiting (I was curious and went ahead!!) — but I love every song.

I really am obsessed with the live version of Sugar right now. Oh my god. And when she said “I've written a song called "Sugar" about those people you meet that you'll never have a relationship with, but if you could have 25 minutes alone with them, you'd have this incredible affair. There's something magical and you want to merge with it in every way possible. That's why I could imagine being a carnivore thousands of years ago; you want to merge with them so intensely you could almost eat them. Say we didn't have bodies and blood and guts, but just released these light energies like colours, then we could just merge. That's what making love is really about. Your blue connects with my pale orange; a little bit of fire-engine red with your lime green! That's what they were doing when they ate someone, like their lover or a beaten enemy. It's a bit different with the Romans buggering the guys they beat -- it all gets distorted down the line. They were merging; that's what they were doing.”

Wow. I felt that so hard. I did first read that when I was HEAD over HEELS infatuated with a guy though and now I’ve come to my senses, but it still is intense. And I FEEL those high notes at the end of the song so painfully. Yeah! Tori Amos!

LOVE to see more love for her and her music! So underrated. She just released a live album a couple weeks ago and I was apprehensive how I’d like it but it’s actually pretty good. Spring haze and crazy are particularly lovely.

what I wouldn’t do to have been able to see her in the 90’s on the dew drop inn tour or the plugged tour. There’s a live version of bells for her with harpsichord from DDI that’s SO GOOD.

~here’s the vid!~

seriously one of the best live musicians everrrr

the Dew Dropp Inn tour must have been out of this world like what the fuck ?? I would kill someone to be able to witness that. The way she plays the piano is absolutely unmatched it’s so visually stimulating like she’s not just playing it
