Lana songs with poor mastering/engineering?

Recommended Posts

I will never think HTD has good or interesting production. Even Jack telling us that he thought it made it interesting to play with sound levels doesn't make me like it. It just sounds like an error in the song and I hate it.

I also think Wildflower Wildfire is very scratchy from the second verse onwards. I love what they were going for but it badly needed some polishing because why does it have to hurt my ears?

in Change I've always felt some sort of messy disconnect from her vocals to the instrumental       it almost sounds like she's popping the mic at points because she is just so loud compared to the backing

Whoever did the mixing put some sort of crazy high pass on her vocals and they sound really.....sharp?

The high pass again muffles the vocals since it cuts out the local frequencies so her vocals are basically just one flat frequency it sound robotic and muffled

And the vocals are also so much louder than the instrumental that the crazy amount of reverb they put on her vocals is really prominent

The chorus isn't awful but something about the first verses is actually horrendous I can't believe it was released in this state

It took listening to the instrumental to make me fall in love with the song. Now I strictly listen to the instrumental lol.

Kintsugi - sounds like a voice memo placed over an instrumental - or worse, an instrumental created around a voice memo, which I'm certain it is. Again, she should've rehearsed the song based on the voice memo and then have a professional, in-studio recording for it, instead of using the first thing she recorded on her phone. @Charlottexseax at least that's what I find wrong with Kintsugi, but idk if they would mention something different.

I think Kintsugi is actually a studio recording with Jack playing piano live while Lana sings, in the unmastered version you can hear both of them talk at the end which wouldn't really make sense with a voice memo.

Jack also talked about the creation of the song in an interview back in 2022, though he didn't specifically mention the title.

And then we had this one weird live take where she was singing along to a voice memo on her phone, with her headphones on, and I was playing piano latent to what she was singing, and we just both went, ‘Yep, there it is—our one magic moment.’

In Chemtrails, where she switches from "go to the market, the kids' swimming pools" to "baby, what's your sign?", it's very noticeable it's a different vocal take, or at least the EQ sounds different, deeper if you will? With more lows.

I’ve always thought both were an attempt to recreate the success Young & Beautiful and OUAD had, i hate the drums on both too.

I think the craziest part for me is that the chose I can fly over Beautiful People

Ooooh thanks for clarifying! I always thought it was one of those songs like Fingertips iirc (correct me if I'm wrong but I swear I read that somewhere), where she used a voice memo I think.

Now, if Kintsugi is actually a studio recording... what in the HELL is that vocal production :cryney:

Kintsugi reminds me of Valley of the Dolls in a bad way

i also think most of the Chris Braide songs are pretty terrible because of whatever horrific autotune he uses for her. completelyyyyy ruin tha vibe

hollywood’s dead without auto tune sounds AMAZINGGG. hopefully someone else leaks it
