Ultraviolence Reviews: 74 Metascore (DISCUSS REVIEWS ONLY)

Recommended Posts

The critic from NME who disliked UV is currently trashing Lana on her Twitter and saying racism is the reason that Lana is allowed to play the victim and Beyonce isn't. Very classy and makes total sense.

"Thrashing"?

You're exaggerating, I checked myself. She's just sharing an opinion.

Read the replies as well. (No trolling of her twitter, please. Let's try to remain dignified.)

I'm surprised that more people aren't questioning the lack of Rolling Stone review! It's so strange...almost like they didn't want to admit to liking it after how they've maligned her in the past. :toofunny:

It's prepared but is not online yet. There is a reference here regarding a possible RS review

I think 60 is a good score if we consider the critic is very feminist.

3/5 from The Telegraph because the album isn't happy enough. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/cdreviews/10902497/Lana-Del-Rey-Ultraviolence-review-dark-and-cinematic.html

Lower 70s would still be amazing after BTD. Seems like it's gonna fall to high 60s though  :brows3:

I think the new reviews should balance each other out for the most part. It will probably fall to low 70s, but the COS and BG reviews will help keep stabilize the score.

Its not about album not being "happy". The critic was very fair and he was right about the album lacking "music levity". There is a reason why Brooklyn Baby is ultimate standout among the slow broody tracks. More tracks  like Brooklyn Baby (or even Florida Kilos) would only help the album.  There should be some clash song among Sad Girl, PWYC,MPG,FMWUTTP because listening these tracks in a row can be tiresome sometimes.

"But absorbing though Ultraviolence is, the album could certainly do with a dollop more musical levity. Without the hip-hop beats that peppered her first album, the songs here lack a sprinkling of brashness – a little of the Kim and Kanye touch would have helped."

He's comparing the album to an entirely different genre. Many classic albums have also been dour and cohesive in tone, but sonically intricate. It's a bit odd to give an album a lower rating because of a lack of levity and higher tempo, as he said himself.

The rest of the review seems fair, yes.

Most critics judge the album as a pop album made by american popstar. So there is obvious they miss "uptempo tracks". I dont agree fully with them but I admit the album needed more light hearted tracks.
