I get what you mean but I don't think it was meant to be titillating... I believe it was done for aesthetic purposes. Art for Art's sake.

It doesn't matter if they're beautiful or not.... it's about societal implications of things, which Lana loves to be completely oblivious of.

I'm on a diet, because I wanna be skinny. You can say that  I'm doing this for sake of beauty. But when you look deeper, you'll realize that it's beautiful only because that's what society values at the moment. And all of this is true.

Honestly, there's nothing cheaper than heterosexual girls (dunno about Chuck, but Lana... yeah) kissing each other for attention or ~art~. I remember girls at my highschool doing this, lol. It's sort of how dudes hate gays, but love lesbian porn (what gross people).

Lana isn't lacking in social awareness.  She just chooses not to give a s--- about what people think.  She has said that on numerous occasions during interviews.  Due partly to criticism she received, especially after SNL, she has said that she had to learn to not care what people think.  That has, most likely, evolved into doing and saying things without any regard for the consequences.  So it's not that she lacks social awareness; she just chooses to ignore it.

Hmm, it's true that she ignores it - but to me the "i don't give a fuck" part implies that she's clueless. She wouldn't make some of choices if she was aware that it's not JUST about her. And her quotes about feminism kill your point (not that I think that she HAS to be feminist, but how ignorant she is on the topic). Not to mention the objectification of non-white women and their bodies in Tropico, the warbonnet from Ride etc.

Like the kiss photo. It relies on ages-old appropriation of female sexuality - especially non-heterosexual one - for male gaze. So if Lana was more socially aware, she would know that what she does is harming - even opressing other women, that she's playing into the image of '(not really) lesbian for your pleasure'. Instead, what Lana probably thinks is "wow, I'm so controversial... not only I kissed other women, but also my sister! The photo is beautiful, and IDGAF about what anyone thinks about me". 

And if she knows all of that and yet doesn't give a shit... I don't want to think that she's that stupid, or selfish, or cruel.

I can't really see her kissing her sister as one of the more problematic things Lana does/say. It's homoerotic, if that is the right term, but this is not supposed to be any better or worse than heteroerotic, provocation wise--at least in an enlightened society. What they end up communicating to me is that they are exceptionally close sisters.

It's not as that Angelina kissing her brother in public, but it is 2 women, so it makes it more intriguing, art or not.

Lana was social worker, she must have some social awareness, and her addiction years are long over, so I am of opinion, she does everything for a reason, just it can't be comprehended easily.
