iwasborntodie 306 Posted February 25, 2015 Bought the first book on a whim but have never bothered to read it. Supposed to be seeing the movie version tomorrow night. Not really excited as I feel it's probably vastly over-hyped. Anyone read the books or seen the film yet? What did you think?
Jack 2,919 Posted February 25, 2015 read all three books and watched the film, personally i love it and it made me so hot and bothered in the theater but i know some people in the BDSM community found problems with it... personally i enjoyed it but i can respect why some others don't and wouldn't fight them over it
trayertrash 7,210 Posted February 25, 2015 As a member of the BDSM community I am ashamed of this book.
kik 1,564 Posted February 25, 2015 Seems like a great novel for suburban soccer moms who haven't had sex since 1998. The movie is great for people who won't open a book if there's no image. I so loled about how the BDSM community was scandalized by the way the relationship was portrayed. It's fiction, not a documentary about how to practice BDSM safely. I'd like to go see it at the movie theater just to spot which couples are gonna rent a motel room after the show.
iwasborntodie 306 Posted February 25, 2015 Can someone elaborate on the BDSM community outrage on it? I literally have no idea what the book entails apart from sex.
TRENCH 15,450 Posted February 25, 2015 My coworker saw the movie and she said that it was the dumbest thing she had ever seen. there was no chemistry between the main characters, bad acting, and the "sex" was just bad. Don't waste your money I wont read the book or see the movie. If I want real amateur pornographic literature, I have literotica for that.

I read that it was an abusive relationship. There's a code word subs use to stop the whole scenario/session when it becomes uncomfortable and she used it, he didn't give a fuck and kept going. Wrong, wrong, wrong.
iwasborntodie 306 Posted February 25, 2015 Oh dear. Yeah it's never appealed to me. Got the book lying at home but never did pick it up to read it. Apparently the lead male has pulled out (excuse the pun) of playing Mr Grey in the sequels due to his wife's dismay at him filming such intimate scenes with another woman.

Yeah one of the girls from work has taken a stance not to see it as she believes it promotes domestic abuse.
TRENCH 15,450 Posted February 25, 2015 sequels WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY IS THERE GOING TO BE SEQUELS.. we know the first sentence of the book foreshadows that the rest is trash
Libra 241 Posted February 25, 2015 Is it confirmed that there is going to be a sequel? Ew.
CarcrashBandicoot 760 Posted February 25, 2015 Is it confirmed that there is going to be a sequel? Ew. Considering the fact that it was #1 opening weekend and made more than 10x the budget, I'd say yes, there'll be sequels.

They might even pull a harry potter (and a twilight and a hunger games and a divergent) and split the last book into two films

The guy who played Christian Grey just reportedly pulled out of the sequels of Fifty Shades, due to his wife's request. Source

Sitar 22,210 Posted February 25, 2015 I was thoroughly entertained by the movie but yeah the writing was so wooden and unsexual at times

The thing is, they both knew what he was signing up for. If she was uncomfortable with him doing it, she should've said something before the first movie was even being filmed...

If she was uncomfortable with him doing it, she should've said something before the first movie was even being filmed... Yeah that's also very true. I'm not a big fan of actor changes in television dramas or film sequels (with exception to long running ones expanding 40+ years ie Bond films). I bet she was trying really hard to play cool and just let him do his thing but now realises how much it affects her. Apparently that Dakota lass doesn't want her family to watch it. Oh well Melanie Griffith won't be watching Fifty Shades anytime soon.
