Honestly I think backseat would be the second saddest song then lucky then white mercedes

I agree with this except I don’t see how Moonlight is sad at all! It’s a bop! I could see songs like Valentine, Glow (Mixtape Track), Grins, or Emotional making it as the 5th spot.

Maybe I'm overly sensitive but the instrumentals are so... numbing? Like for me, it always feels like I'm isolated in the dark when I pay attention to the heavy bass and guitar

 

But also some of the lyrics are really sad like:

Always love the things I lose the most

 

And I guess just the way these lyrics are sung - like Charli's entire rap sounded like her feelings were violently imploding as she yearns to be with someone she loves but she knows she's only gonna lose him!! And her backing vocals?! Her "yeah"s sound so broken and she sounds so hurt but maybe I'm just overthinking it or I'm skewing it towards a certain perspective due to my personal experiences but yeah!! I sincerely think moonlight is a sad song!!

I don't really see it as a piano ballad (or charli doing them in general) tbh

 

songs can be emotional and powerful without having to be stripped down, dancing on my own by robyn is a perfect example of this imo

 

fun fact: I remember immediately bawling my eyes out the first time I heard die 4, it was 6AM and I was eating pizza and thinking about my ex
