latothemoon 11,844 Posted January 23, 2018 This year's Oscars are tricky cause there's really no movie I think will be sweeping the awards or will be an obvious winner for Best Picture, like last year with La La Land (even tho it didn't win Best Picture most expected it to but it still sweept the floor). Anways here are my predictions, keep in mind I haven't seen all listed. Best Picture: Most likely:- The Shape of Water- Get Out- Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri- Call Me by Your Name- Lady Bird- Dunkirk Possible:- Phantom Thread- The Post- Mudbound- Darkest Hour- The Disaster Artist- I, Tonya- The Florida Project Far shot:- The Big Sick- Wonder Woman- Baby Driver Who will win:- Three Billboards or The Shape of WaterPersonal favorites:- The Florida Project, Call Me by Your Name, I, Tonya Best Actress Most likely:- Frances McDormand for Three Billboards- Margot Robbie for I, Tonya- Saoirse Ronan for Lady Bird- Sally Hawkins for The Shape of Water- Meryl Streep for The Post Possible:- Jessica Chastain for Molly's Game- Emma Stone for Battle of the Sexes- Kate Winslet for Wonder Wheel Who will win:- Frances McDormand or Saoirse RonanPersonal favorite performances:- Margot Robbie and Frances McDormand Best Actor Most likely:- Gary Oldman for The Darkest Hour- Timothée Chalamet for Call Me by Your Name- Daniel Day-Lewis for Phantom Thread- Tom Hanks for The Post- Daniel Kaluuya for Get Out Possible:- James Franco for The Disaster Artist- Denzel Washington for Roman J. Israel, Esq.- Jake Gyllenhaal for Stronger Will win:- Gary Oldman or Timothée ChalametPersonal favorite performances:- Timothée Chalamet and Jake Gyllenhaal As for Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor, if Allison Janney and Willem Dafoe don't win I'm rioting!

These predictions are solid af, though. I also sense a Franco shutout with the recent media attention he got. He had it right during the voting week, so many probably left him off their ballots. I'm rooting for Dafoe, but Rockwell won the Golden Globe and SAG, not to mention was nominated by BAFTA and won about 10+ critics awards over him. I'd like to think Dafoe can surprise, but with Three Billboards being so likely for the Picture and Actress wins, something tells me he's going to happen, unfortunately.

latothemoon 11,844 Posted January 23, 2018 Honestly Margot Robbie in I, Tonya was probably my favorite lead performance I saw from 2017. She showed quite a range and really just nailed it. Her performance was way more powerful than Saoirse Ronan in Lady Bird and I was disappointed in the Golden Globes choice. I'm expecting Frances McDormand to win but MARGOT DESERVED BETTER

BluVelvUnderground 1,754 Posted January 23, 2018 Lana better not get snubbed again She's not eligible for anything this year. But you're right. They should apologize and give her a late-win for "Young and Beautiful", I agree.
latothemoon 11,844 Posted January 23, 2018 highly doubt Call Me and Get Out are getting major awards I'm expecting both to get nominations including a Best Picture nomination. They were two of the most well received films of the year and lots of experts have predicted them to get nominations. Call Me by Your Name practically has the Best Adapted Screenplay Award in the bag, but I don't think it will win more than that unless Chalamet shocks. I believe Get Out will get at least two nominations (possibly Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, or Best Actor) but won't win unless it snatches Original Screenplay. Just you wait!
graham4anything 2,859 Posted January 23, 2018 I think the opinions above are probably correct, think there won't be many surprises this year I do think James will be nominated as most people already voted and imho it's one of the best, but wonder if they will get Christopher Plummer to erase all his votes and Tom Hanks will get in (I think Hanks is #6 ) I would say Oldman #1 Chalamet #2 JF #3 Lewis #4 Daniel K #5 if there is an accurate popular vote count. But Oldman is going to win as will and the only question is supporting actress Personally thought Lady Bird is the best movie and Greta should win director (but she won't) How many millions did Moonlight lose last year because they were robbed of the announcement and how many people went to bed not even knowing it won? Wonder if there was more than just a "star struck" accountant announcing it for La La instead of Moonlight (which deserved the award. (wouldn't surprise me if someone like a HW would attempt to sabotage the awards (and also embarrass Warren, who knew something was wrong) It would be fun if Get Out won. (but it won't) Last year Denzel should have won for Fences. (he was robbed and Casey did not deserve it (and in retrospect, if last year were this year, he wouldn't have won). If there were any justice this year, Sam Elliott would be nominated for The Hero. 1 Quote Lana is our modern day Edith Piaf. latothemoon 11,844 Posted January 23, 2018 I really hope Allison Janney wins Best Supporting Actress. Margot Robbie and Janney both really blew me away in I, Tonya and that movie was incredibly entertaining, my favorite of the year that I saw along with The Florida Project and Call Me by Your Name. It's very unlikely that both ladies will win the actress categories, but I think Janney will (and should) win because her and Laurie Metcalf are the top contenders. Was I the only one completely underwhelmed by Lady Bird? I mean I enjoyed it but I was expecting much more from the hype and the plot wasn't very original. It was just good, not incredible and didn't leave me emotional.

BluVelvUnderground 1,754 Posted January 23, 2018 jennifer lawrance should have nominated for best actress with mother! She actually got nominated for the Razzie, which is a disgrace, because no matter what you think of the film itself, that was a tour-de-force for her. And I agree, she should be a lock for a nomination this year. Stunning that she gets so many nominations, and misses for her best work yet.
latothemoon 11,844 Posted January 23, 2018 Well the nominations are out! Thoughts? There honestly wasn't any shocking snubs or surprises, it looks like The Shape of Water is in lock for Best Picture though. I think the winners will be pretty much as expected, there won't be any huge upsets. Biggest Oscars upset of all time: Crash winning Best Picture over Brokeback Mountain (MESS) the Academy even admitted to regretting that
t-raider26 912 Posted January 24, 2018 I really thought Jennifer Garner would get a surprise nom for the Tribes of Palos Verdes. If only the movie got more publicity. It’s about time people remember that she can actually act lol
graham4anything 2,859 Posted January 25, 2018 Would love to see Denzel win Best Actor and happy he was the 5th nominee and not Hanks Not quite sure why Oldman is getting a pass considering ALL of his wives (and probably girlfriends) have spoken up about abuse against them from him I do think Shape will win Movie/Director (unless Get Out comes out of nowhere to win all 3 Jordan is nominated for) and Mary J Blige is a double nominee 0 Quote Lana is our modern day Edith Piaf. Are you serious? lmao The fact that so many people are trashing that movie makes me sad. I know it's not for everyone, but it really doesn't deserve all this backlash. But I think the director Aronofsky says he encourages debate and discussion and doesn't mind the hate so oh well i guess lmao. But J Law did an amazing job. 0 Quote You call me lavender, you call me sunshine.
