Master of My Make-Believe is one of my go to pop albums, for sure. She totally does what No Doubt wanted to do with their new album way better.

Me too. Santogold sounds really awkward to me, but Santigold has a really nice ring to it. Plus, Santi is her real name, so it makes much more sense!

Ahhh, I remember when she was still Santogold. Then she got sued. Haha
  4. I agree. The pacing was incredibly slow. I think he was trying to recreate the warped sense of time people suffering from depression tend to have. It went down quite easy after Antichrist, which is probably one of the most difficult (but rewarding) films I've ever seen.

I love both albums, but I think Master wins for me only because it's so cohesive and the sound works so brilliantly for her. But I will definitely say there's not a weak moment on the debut and I think she did a brilliant job with all the different styles she explored.
  6. Haha. Together, we've seen the complete film. I'm going to watch it again from start to finish. I really liked the pacing and I thought it was set up quite well from what I saw of it. Kirsten's character became increasingly more unstable. I was really not impressed with her at first, but as it went on, I thought she did pretty well by her standards. I was completely shocked that the cinematography was so polished and that music figured so heavily in it, as it was really a complete break from what I'm used to seeing from him. If you compare Antichrist and Melancholia, it's hard to believe they were directed by the same person. His next one sounds quite interesting and typically controversial. He's working with Charlotte again!
  7. What did you think? I got interrupted just after the second part started and I was far more impressed than I had anticipated being. I'm looking forward to finishing it. Charlotte, as always, was brilliant and Kirsten was actually quite good. I think I'm going to watch The White Ribbon again soon. It's so hard to watch, but it's truly a masterpiece. Michael Haneke is one of my favorite directors ever.

She was going to do a free show in NYC last summer, but it was canceled because of the hurricane. But if she tours more next year, I will definitely go.

Pseudo-Siouxsie cover FTW: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcZF_FKPICM Master of My Make-Believe is one of my favorite albums of 2012. It's so cohesive. My favorite thing about it: It's a pop album that's not about having fun. Show our girl some love.

    Yeah Yeah Yeahs

The album is SO AMAZING. It's even better than the debut, which is not an easy feat. I still need to see her live one of these days. I keep missing her. /endhijack

Right?! I got all excited when it first came out, thinking the album would be coming out a few months after that, but Santi was all, "I don't think so, bitches."

PS This collaboration was like a dream come true for me. This shit is live. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJos7KTLue4

Dragon Queen is my shit! I didn't even pay attention to it at first, but it grew on me big time. I'm not big on the ballads on that one either, but the dance tracks are amazing. I'm pretty okay with it. As long as they rock out on the next one.

I'm a huge fan! It's Blitz took a really long time to grow on me because I wasn't expecting that sound from them, but I thoroughly enjoy shaking my ass to Heads Will Roll and Dragon Queen. My favorite material of theirs is definitely the early stuff. The first EP, Fever to Tell, and Show Your Bones are perfect.
  15. I really love it! Sometimes I have phases where it's all I listen to. I spent a lot of time studying it and there's so much to explore! My granny used to see Lady Day in Harlem back in the early 50s and has all of her records. She told me she wants "Autumn in New York" played at her funeral and I will do my best to see that it happens.

    Amy Winehouse

I was on her side from the beginning. I don't think I could wrap my head around how anyone that young could have a voice like that at first. She really was just incredible. Her voice had such range and power and her phrasing was dead on when she was sang jazz. If she was alive and making records, I don't think Adele would be as big as she is. When she was on, she was such an incredible performer:
  17. Love her so much. I'm a big jazz fan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4ZyuULy9zs
  18. There's no harm in giving it a shot. Find the stage door (usually in the back; look for the bus) and wait there. She pretty much always comes out to sign things and talk to people at some point.
  19. She might sign stuff before if she gets there early enough and they're not running late, but even then, she probably won't have much time, so it will be quick. The problem is if it's a larger venue and the stage door is at the back, that's where she'll be coming in. That might cause problems if you want to get there early to secure a spot near the front of the line.
  20. I'd say wait around after. That's usually your best bet. She probably won't have time before soundcheck.
