What? Really? No one likes yayo? I think this version sounds so jazzy and old and it's one of my favourites so far

I can't wait for you to see the light Personally the chorus is my favorite part. It's such a fucked-up sing-along. I wish she'd actually put words in the "woah-oh" parts because anything could have fit, I would have even forgiven a standard pretty word pairing that makes no sense like Body Electric.

My opinion changed, too, because American used to be my least favorite, but the buildup of each chorus as the song goes on sounds amazing.

Does anyone remember when she first talked about "Gods & Monsters" months ago, and the quote was "In the land of gods and angels, I was a monster"? Wonder if she'll say that later in the song, I think it would be a nice--if bleak--twist.

Also, she supposedly changed the end of "Yayo", which has me really nervous for the flawless "hello heaven" bridge.

My list has definitely changed since the new snippets.

    1. Gods & Monsters (This one just seems so powerful and emotional, lyrically and.. sonically. )
    2. American
    3. Bel Air (This one sounds great, but only from the first snippet. I think it'll do what Cola will when I get the full; blow me away. Also, does anyone else hear children in the background? )
    4. Body Electric
    4. Yayo (I know it'll grow on me, but she fucking butchered the chorus.. )
    4. Cola (I really want to love this one but the chorus is so boring... I feel like the full version will have me though. The pre-chorus is amazing and I love the use of the strings there. )

I'm not including Ride or Burning Desire because they've already been released, and it'll be too hard to place them in this list since I haven't heard all of the others yet. (Blue Velvet who?)

I know it's "fucked hard" in Gods & Monsters, but did anyone else hear "looking to get fucktard" the first time? Maybe this song isn't about sex, but it's about Lana being strung out on dope, in a magical land of Gods & Monsters..

I haven't listened to much of the new snippets-only American-and I'm completely fine with people's differing opinions and all, but reading this last bit really upset me. I think it's very disrespectful to Lana that you'd say she doesn't care about her music or the artistic value in it just because it didn't appeal to you. Maybe she is changing as a person, so she wrote in a different style or just wanted to experiment with sounds more on this rerelease? I don't know really, but it just makes me very sad to see you say she doesn't care because you don't like it. Personally, I think if she didn't care then she wouldn't have bothered making this EP, or having the Ride video be 10 minutes long. Idk, that actually really upset me so I'm just going to stop now.

Hey guys! So you may remember that a few days I ago put forth the idea of a MotW: Video Edition. Due to an outpouring of interest and my creepy desire to watch people, I've decided that this will no longer be a Member of the Week contest, but a forum activity. So, regardless of whether or not you've been nominated or have won MotW, you are still eligible to contribute a video. I want as many people as possible to get involved!

Here's how it works: I will provide you with a list of questions (see spoiler below). You'll turn on your webcam/phone/video camera and answer the questions. Easy-peasy. You will then upload your video to Youtube/Vimeo and make it either an unlisted video (youtube), or a password protected (Vimeo) and send it my way via PM. Please do not share your video with anyone else, I want them all to be a surprise when I make the official thread showcasing all of your videos!

I am not imposing any sort of time limit or minimum length of time on these videos. These can be as short or as long as you want... but you may want to avoid making it too long. Here's why:

The thread showcasing all of the videos will also include a poll. Members will vote for their favourite videos, and the winner will have an opportunity yet again to have the spotlight on them and answer even more questions/tell us a story/sing us a song -- whatever it is you want us to watch you doing...

If your video is too long, you run the risk of people not watching it in its entirety and not voting for you. If your video is too short, you may not be able to ~capture our hearts~ with the small amount of time we had to watch you. So be wary of the length!

Here are a list of questions for you to choose from. You DO NOT have to answer all of these. If you don't like any of these questions, feel free to pop into this thread and steal a few questions to answer!:

The videos will be due 2 weeks from now; November 5th!

Happy Video-Making, and I look forward to seeing everyone's entries!

Lana has said many times that she didn't expect to be so famous from all this, that she does it for herself and her fans, and if you actually stop and think about how much she hates touring and performing, it should be pretty obvious that she isn't going to sell out. I really can't believe how little faith some of you have in her.

    Exactly.

You're right, but it really, really irks me. I just don't think like that. If it hurts me, it hurts me as a person, not as a woman. I am more than my looks, and I don't owe it to anyone to be attractive.

Still, continuing the cycle of this thinking is not doing women any favours. She's not setting back the progression of feminist thinking because it already seems to have stagnated here (public thought), nor is she helping by contributing to this oppressive thinking. I just don't like when people keep perpetuating these "ideals", especially those in public eye. Speak for yourself Lana, because you sure as hell are not representing me as a woman. (Notice how I use the word woman and not girl?)

EDIT: I'm trying this new thing where I'm not an asshole on the forum and I calm down before I make a post. So I don't know if this is worded too harshly or anything; but bear with me, I'm trying! :3

Anyway, it bothers me to see women fall in line with this horrible way of thinking, and it bothers me to women themselves perpetuating this bullshit. It bothers me when I see myself thinking this way and I have to stop and correct myself. As Sitar mentioned, society is much harsher on women and these ideas are deeply ingrained in us from an incredibly young age. Even the most headstrong, independent, intelligent women might grapple with these issues. Yes, society, the media, family conditions us to think this way. Yes, there are a multitude of layers and years of this incredibly complex issue: the sociological context, historical context, even evolutionary context -- but I am a firm believer in the individual. And call me naive or too optimistic, but I think real social change can be made. To me, it's never just "Oh, just one person said that; everyone thinks it anyway" -- it starts with the individual. We make up society.

I'm not going to give Lana a free pass on this one. :imbeingsarcasticbitch2: Maybe she's changed, I don't know. I know I have, and I know it's possible. I'm still learning, and I'm still changing. And I also know that my daughters and my sons (if I even have children) will be taught not to perpetuate this bullshit and will not be cast into gender roles and taught to have "gender-appropriate" qualities.

....and I went a little overboard. Again.

    Ooops. (._. )

I don't understand why people equate being submissive with being anti-feminist. It doesn't make any sense. No, I don't need someone to explain how people make the connection, I understand it and I'm pointing out that it's stupid. Those lyrics are not anti-feminist.

    This shit is though:

I don't understand why I'm the only one calling her out on this. :imbeingsarcasticbitch2:

I feel like that's because we're in a world were we believe this sort of idea about sex to be dirty and unacceptable. But I think this is an exploration of Lana's personal sexuality. Of course it's harder for us to connect to it because it's not how we feel about sex. However this vein of sexual exploration has been constant through Lana's work and while I don't think it's there for shock value, I do believe it's just what turns her on. Lyrics are personal and we should remember she's not necessarily writing for us but for herself, even just as a cathartic measure.

Wearing her quirky catch-phrases to death. Has anyone ever really stopped to look at the title "Gramma (Blue Ribbon Sparkler Trailer Heaven)"? Jesus Christ, Elizabeth, enough is enough! You know, I have a minute to kill, I'm going to make the whole AKA album with Gramma-esque titles.

    1. Kill Kill (Florida Dark Surf Paradise)
    2. Queen of the Gas Station (Neon Chevrolet Darling)
    3. Oh Say Can You See (By the Dawn's Early Light?)
    4. Gramma (Blue Ribbon Sparkler Trailer Heaven)
    5. For K Part 2 (Rehab Daddy Issues)
    6. Jump (Sonic Palm Tree Cocaine Heart)
    7. Mermaid Motel (Miss America Gogo Dancer)
    8. Raise Me Up (Mississippi South Pickup Truck Baby Doll)
    9. Pawn Shop Blues (Hotel Jesus Meth)
