Lana is a freak, she was from the start an odd proposition for a popstar. So, she didn't became a huge, Adele like, popstar, bummer. But HM is a strangely beautiful record and I needed to let go all my "expectations" regarding her to really enjoy it (and I confidently say it that HM is better than 25). I think that we should be over the BTD hype bubble because it will never come back. The only people who still care about her are those who really love her voice and her music and they are enough to sustain a long career for her if she wants it. So there is no point anymore to discuss about Lana's commercial success more than Fiona's for example. The only thing which matters is her artistic direction. HM it is not earth-shattering but it's good and we should notice that she came out with 2 good albums in two years, we are spoiled tbh

Lana is battling depression and anxiety and it's obvious that it effects her personality. She seems to me like a deeply insecure person about some things:

    1. Her past. Her name change in this preposterous Lana Del Rey moniker is really bothering me after I observed that everybody, even her parents, are referring to her as Lana. Besides the ridiculousness of the situation, it seems to me that she's running away from something an idea which was enforced to me by the many lies that plagued her throughout her career.

    2. Her looks. I know, it sounds crazy, given that I googled her just to see her pretty face! I always defended her against plastic surgery accusations but after the recent Poland gig I have to admit that she messed up her face. It's infuriating taking in account that she always was a good looking woman.

    3. Her public perception. She is self centered in her work and maybe this personality trait made her swallow every BS written about her which affected her self esteem. I believe that she is the type of celebrity who's reading everything written about them. This is one of the reasons for that she stopped promoting and it's working because the negative (or positive) articles about her are gone. I'm certain that her trolling through music and the way that she behaves sometimes in public (the way she clothes) is a response to some of the negative reactions to her in the press. In contrast, I remember when Woddy Allen, who is accused of pedophilia by his own step-daughter, said that he's not reading anything about himself because it would bothered him in his work. With Lana everything is about herself: how misunderstood and underappreciated she is in the business.

    4. I think that she knows that she's not good live. Because of this she looks on stage like someone who never wanted to be there in the first place and she's always running away without giving any encores.

    She is a complicated person.

On the one hand she wanted fame, shooting extravagant covers and videos and on the other hand she's is ready to throw everything away by not doing even a minimal promo for her albums.

But at least she has a personality which is distinct from the corporate fakeness of other popstars. Her "fakness" has nothing to do with the business anymore is something more personal, something that maybe we will never be able to fully understand it.

Moreover I was upset at the way she dumped Barrie which made me question her goodness, Barrie was a depressive pain in the ass sometimes but he was there for her when she had it rough and he certainly didn't deserved to be left like this.

After years of obsessively following her online I started to feel sorry for her because she's clearly depressed and unable to put her personal life and career in order. I believe the she needs to put this Lana Del Rey experiment behind her because it will ruin her psychologically. She's a smart woman (she's not a medium worshiping twat) and she is talented, she could develop in a respected songwriter and she could become a respected singer also. She's already a good studio singer and I'm certain that with a proper preparation of her songs and in the right environment (smaller venues) she could became a respected live singer (I hope) named E. Grant.

I kind of liked Freak. But her vocals were uneven (again) and her stage presence is beyond boring, it's starting to annoy me. She just cannot go beyond this "I'm lost on a stage" or "shy schoolgirl" attitude. LoL at her wearing the same shoes and dress again. Can her be more careless?! Everything looks tired in her show, she's singing without energy and passion. I'm disappointed in her for not improving her live show and I think that she has no excuses anymore to come out with a sub-par stage arrangement, in reused clothes, with no adequate live preparation for her songs (those recorded instrumentals and vocals are cringe-worthy). I have to say that she doesn't deserve her headlining status at Lola or anywhere else

The "Freak belongs with Art Deco" hype is so stupid. The songs are gapkess on HM but apart from that, there is no relation between them, neither sonically nor regarding the lyrics.

I feel like she got pretty lazy. She doesn't owe us anything, but she could have played at least some new songs since she didn't even promote HM.
I remember her talking proudly of HM

Idk if anyone else would agree or disagree, but I think Lana should do psychedelic rock on her next record.

Could you imagine a Lana x Stevie Nicks collab?

Or a Lana x Flaming Lips album?

    Holy shit......

It's a gif of Buster Keaton pretending to smile. The reference is to the idea that one of his gimmicks was that he stayed 'stone faced' no matter what was happening (even though that's exaggerated - there are films and photos of him smiling). Maybe somebody took it upon themselves to tell her to 'smile', and this is her response

These leaks are getting more embarrassing than interesting tbh. Comapare these recently leaked songs with her cover of Daniel Johnston's "Some Things Last A Long Time" which she sung gorgeously. One thing these leaks made clear for me she has no place in pop, she needs to go full alternative and she needs a change of topic asap. I hope that I never hear a song about boys from her
  14. PartyNation liked a post in a topic by Flipflopfan in What musical direction should Lana go in for LDR5?
I don't care about her sound anymore. She was/is eclectic enough musically anyway. Regarding her next record, I will care, for the first time seriously, about the concept of the album and the lyrics. If she will sing again about some doomed romance, namedrop some dead legend or she'll use some of her now "signature" tropes (die young - live fast, crazy woman, sad girl, red dress, misunderstood artiste etc.)  I'm out and I will never look back. I'm done excepting her laziness in songwriting and I expect something interesting from her next time around. Also, I don't want to hear on her next record any lamenting/trolling songs about critics (who btw where exceptionally nice with her regarding HM). Since she doesn't do any promo for her stuff at least she can sit at home and create something beautiful and meaningful lyrically. Musically I want her to sing with passion, to feel that she is interested to convey something, that she believes in something. If she mumbles through an album like HM again than she can keep it for herself.

If she cannot improve lyrically, it wouldn't be a bad idea to hire some writers for her next record, but in that case she'll loose her songwriter status and she's not much of a singer besides her records...so she needs to write (she said that she's a writer first anyway). So I hope that she'll come up with something good next time around and I can get into her music again

    You're funny.

She uses the same (out of fashion) shitty sandals for 2 years. Blue jeans, white shirt. She was horribly dressed at any red carpet event she participated in the last two years. She is a fixture of worst-dressed lists.

She wasn't in the proper limelight for 3 years now. She didn't promoted her last two albums. She threw out HM and she is relaxing since then.

About my entitlement. Why I'm following her? That is the question. Certainly not for her "deep" emotional statements, wisdom, or philosophy that came through her lyrics. But I like her face, voice, melodies and I liked her style sometime ago. She is an entertainer in my book but she never payed attention to that part of her job. Because, you know, she choose to have a job and I'm a customer who buys her shit. Maybe I'm a little entitled as a fan to see a proper performance of hers in 3 years and not just botched recordings of her subpar live shows?

Poor Lana, I offend her existence with my stupid attention (and I have to admit that the amount of attention that I devote to her is an utterly stupid thing to do) by expressing opinions on a forum regarding her state of mind. Maybe I can get tired of her depressive/bipolar act which, in my opinion, gets embarrassing for everyone involved in her career (included fans).

@fessle, you behaved decently. Any fucking celebrity who earn their absurd living from selling songs, movies etc. have to understand this. That's not implying that they do not have the right to a private life but they have to acknowledge the limitations that come with being a celebrity. No one force them to take that route and no one force them to stay in the business. Lana has a strange personality anyway so you shouldn't be surprised by her random behavior. She sometimes kisses fans on their mouth and in other situations she's vacant.

I met with her after she had lunch, as she was leaving. I don't know what it's like to be the celebrity, just the fan.

I know she isn't expected nor obliged to meet anyone--and the fact she did stop and brush away the hotel management was generous of her to do, when she really didn't have to do anything besides just respond with hello.

As a fan, I was obviously a bit disappointed because I expected meeting her to be like magic; it was, but different.

I am of course happy I did get to meet her, in fucking LA no less, RANDOMLY. I just hadn't imagined it would go down this way, and taking a photo or signing something would have taken a few seconds longer in my mind.

I feel like this scenario with me replaced with anyone else would draw the same excitement/disappointment duality. I wasn't pushy and I wasn't demanding or crazy so I'm glad it was chill and it happened nonetheless.

"It must be bizarre to have someone approaching you, knowing so many things about you, loving you so much, but you have no idea who that person his and you cannot really reciprocate"
