as a marketing and Advertising student I can say Lana is (probably)  fully aware of the principles of authenticity. The first rule of authenticity is to never proclaim yourself authentic in any way. That said every person personal experience is authentic because we are all authentic human beings, no experience is equal to different people, not even sharing the same dish at a restaurant. The experience you feel is internal and all the external is not authentic.  In that sense also no experience is really authentic , not even going to camp in the jungle since someone designed the paper map or GPS you will use and someone designed the car, bike, plane that will take you there.

Since music these days is treated and sold as a commodity all rules of business and society applies to art in most cultures, being US the epitome of culture sold as a commodity, as a service (Itunes...serves you music....internet serves you a music store...goes on...) authenticity and all it's sub categories (Fake - Fake ; Fake-Real; Real-Fake; Fake-Fake and Real - Real) are probably under Lana's radar since her teens...her dad been a advertiser and all and her being clearly a good advertiser and a student of human behavior is fair to assume she's fully aware the search for authenticity is doomed from the start.

IMo Lana is a storyteller and she really gets into the character she's playing/writing about.

I was going to create a thread about her. The thing was I think she is so plural that the thread would take me forever to create. OMFG I have so much to talk and hear what others think about M.I.A  Not only the songs and visuals but everthing in between. My dad gave me her first album and said I would like it and said she was very interesting not only for her music. From that day on I have being a hard core fan. M.I.A to me is one of those few artists that doesn't matter if you like or not her work/music she is a necessary artist IMO.

She is the only artist that talks about really important issues and uses pop, visuals and rap to express her visions of the things wrong in the world we don't see (places like Sri Lanka where her parents were born and she lived during her childhood. Also certain parts of the middle east and the relations between media and governments interests.

Like in Bad Girls: do you know what they use to punish boys and womens in Sry Lanka and parts of the middle east? Chains. "The chains hits my chest when I am banging on the desk. My chain  hits my chest when I banging on the radio". Also notice she says specifically Cherokee Gasoline in Bad Girls. Guess why? The gasoline is the important part.

M.I.A is genius imo. She is quite big in Rio de Janeiro (São Paulo as well but in Rio she is very known) her beats are based a lot in Funk. The frenetic beat that comes from the slums in Rio. Funk is usually also very political or in his poor version sex explicit lyrics.

Her life story is very interesting as well. She was born in London moved as a baby with her parents back to Sri Lanka. Her father was one of the founders of a non violent student group against the government. She barelly saw her father when she was groing up in SRy Lanka. Since the police didn't leave her family alone her mom moved back to London with her and her siblings. She grow up in the a refugee area in London. Until today when the midia wants to descredit her they make assumptions she is a terrotist in discuise. The Sry Lanka government has called her out several times.

Born Free Is also genius. The fact she used gingers to illustrate the sitiuation was great. Was taken out of youtube and the air in several countries including USA

M.I.A doesn't give much interviews too thank god she is clearly not good at it. Looks usually high (I bet she is lol) and sometimes she makes you read between the lines

    Lily Allen

I got a BRIT Award recently. And that was something four years ago that I would have died for. But when I finally got that award it meant absolutely nothing to me. Because I now know that The BRIT Awards is a TV show. Record company executives make deals with a TV channel and the producers about who wins what award in exchange for performance time. So its just become a non-award, like thank you for this.'

Let's discuss the marvelous Lily fucking Allen. I was obsessed with Lily from 2008 to 2011. IMO Lily is everything you wish in a pop artist: talented, has a huge mouth in which she usually puts her feet in, controversy, likeable, terrible fashion sense, Twitter addict and a drunk hot mess back in the day. These mommy days of hers took away one of my favs but it's all good, Lily is happy and I'm happy for her.

I love both albuns, Alright Still and It's Not Me It's You, but INMIY is my fav no doubt. I used to play it no stop and is hard to find an album that you can listen to all songs without wanting to skip a song or 2 or 5. In my humble opinion she is one of the best songwriters out there. So many goodies on her on INMIY  that is hard to pick favorites. Some of my LA addictions: Fuck You, 22, Everyone is at It, LDN, Alfie, It's Not Fair, Little Things, Everybody is Changing, Whod have Known, The Fear.....

Who would write a music titled Fuck You thinking about ex US President George Bush if not Lily?? Gotta Love her

I am not from US so I am neither democratic or republican. Lana is a person like you and me why cant she have opinions? Talking about health care is normal for artists in europe and south america tbh. Talk about politics is normal. Why not be allowed to make constructive critics? Its so funny how in US the country that calls themselves the land of freedom no one can say what they think without being criticized for it. Not really for the opinions they have but for the fact that they expressed them. Kind of Ironic don't you think?

This interview is so interesting. I loved and hated some of her answers. Very bipolar opinion about it. Mostly she gives the same rehearsed answers but there are glimpses of her own thoughts in some answers. And those parts are interesting IMO.

she is such a liar and a player  is almost funny. Sometimes I think she plays the journalists. It's her little own revenge playing them. Like when she says she doesn't care about her image when obviously she does, the way she explains why she is not that into AMerica. Only the views, scenes and people. Or her answer about health care or Obama's election. SHe mentions his first election leaving space for you to think the realection was not supported by her. Or the fact that when she had no money she couldn't afford health insurance because was 700 bucks but now that she has money she loses it to the high taxes.

Her take on music and her peers is also interesting. She puts herself in such high position. Like her and Barrie are the only true musicians she ever met and true poets. The others just want to be cool. SHe is probably right about a lot of them but NO ONE IS GOOD ENOUTHG for her? Common bitch....wake up. You're are not that amazing or her songs are not that soulfull.

She also gets confused witht the dates she arrives, comes and goes from cities. Again as always they don't fucking make sense. By a calendar and put your life in a timetable lana!

About her "charity work" she says she doesn't work with it in 2 years. On her other interview she said she works with charity and was also her message on twitter to ënovative thinking"remember that?

Well or Lana has multiple personalities, or is a compulsive liar or she is playing the fame game better than anyone before because she really created a character for herself.
"Actually, I’ve never read anything written about me that was true. It’s been completely crazy."

Did you talk to her again? Did she say anything more? Maybe you should mix questions that are difficult to know the answer but people on the board already know and questions with a time zone like what year she was in school with Lana, what year she left. Maybe some questions about May would help to answer questions about Lana. If she is for real that would be awsome

why K has to stand for ONE thing /person? Maybe Lana chose  the letter K because stands for several things that means a lot to her. Kurt, K Mart, a boy who's initials or is known as K, kent...maybe K is actually a period of time in her life. Maybe K's voice reminds her of Kurt somehow. K mart is all over US maybe in her small town had one where she used to hang for some odd reason....  Just thinking....

In Bel Air she mentions sweet child of mine and Knocking on heavens door (this one I assume) and I think they are not just a part of her song they also have a deeper meaning to the person the song is writed 2. " I grow up on hip hop and you kind of punkrock". In Bel Air I think both music's are very relevant. In Ride she mentions the war in her mind. In Bel Air she mentions:
    Idol of roses, iconic soul
    I know your name
Lead me to war with your brilliant direction
I think she is talking about God. Jesus was wearing a crown of thorns during the crucifixion. Also the term "rose from the dead is common in the bible.

So I was looking through Bel Air and I also think is related to that öne true love". I also think she metions Sweet Child Of mine because of the lyrics of the song and not really Axl or guns itself. I also think that when she mentions gargoyles she is talking about those gargoyles that guard the cemetery. Also Roses are the flower of love and the flower of the dead.
Put the my thoughts on the spoiler

I think For K part 1 and 2, Gangsta Boy , Oh Can You See, You & Me , Dark Paradise, Whithout You, Blue Jeans (BJ I think is about K and someone else) and Summertime Sadness are all about the same guy and related one to another. I would put Born To Die in the mix but I also think BTD is more about her alcoholism than K itself. Her songs are a chronology, prequel and sequels, about her life and sometimes out of order. Also I think the songs Lana mentions in her own songs are connected to her song and are not random. For K for obvious reasons is about K Iol. In K part 1 and 2 she describes their relantionship and why they are not together anymore. In Gangsta Boy she also talks about the relationship. She mentions High school and summer (as summer holidays). She doesn’t have yet summertime sadness. The difference between how she sees summer maybe is related 2 that fact (K’s death). Lana was sent to boarding school at 14 so the time she got to go home for a extended period of time was during holidays, summertime. Also has 2 lines in the lyrics that connect this song to Whithout You (Gangsta Boy - I could have it all,But it means nothing without you). Lana mentions Come as You Are in OCYS and I think Come as You Are lyrics are complementary to OCYS. Both relate to memory. ‘Come as a friend, as an old enemy, as a memory. " says in come as you are. Her honor to lost love in part has a lot to do with memory a never forget even in a million years kind of thing. I put under the spoiler what I connect when I hear her songs. I have read a lot the Lnalysis tread but not all. So if somehow is repeating something I apologize.

I assume 5 things in my analysis:
    K is dead
Lana uses terms, expressions, songs, words to describe behaviors, patterns, situations, terms feelings and memory. Words like Nirvana, heaven, Summertime, born, die, miss américa, K-mart, américas sweet heart. They all mean more than just the simple combination of words.
    Lana believes in another life.
I think the songs she mentions in her own songs are actually relate or somewhat a part of her song. Like Come as you are or Take a walk on the wild side
Lana repeats words and versus relating her songs one to another

Also anyone notice that she mentions K-Mart some times and the word smart? sMARt. For K....mart? Maybe K-Mart is a place where she and K used to go?
PS: this can also be a bunch of BS that goes through my head and makes absolute no sense to anyone else. Who knows?

Gaga is not a uncultured fuck like most pop stars who barelly knows how to write their own names. She is a parir with Lana on that matter which makes me wanna make a point: Yes education makes a difference LOL. Like Gaga or not like Gaga ( I don't)  she can give a decent interview (when she wants it and when her ego is taking a vacation somewhere sunny), talk about subjects other than music. If you ask me she is even more outspoken and articulated than Lana.

When Gaga wants too ,which is almost never, she can be interesting because she got herself the trouble to educate her johnny walker brain. Her songs and outfits can be interesting when she wants too and actually puts effort on it.

I dislike Gaga because her lyrics are crap these days. Her speech is beyond delusional and her ego is the size of planet earth. All that doesn't take away her talent tho she is just not using her talent. IMO these days she is lazy with her bacon which is music. The rest ( fame, outfits, interviews, production and all the crap)  took the center of her world and music got into second plan.

Gaga is not a sell out IMO she is a smart business women that saw a hole in the market and reinvented herself to fill that hole. The Fame Monster was a good album. Born This way is embarrassing if you take in consideration that Gaga is one of the few pop artists out there that is a actual musician. One of the few that can put melodies to her own songs, play instruments and if she wants actually she can produce herself. Also she writes her own crapy songs but at least she writes them

Same with Lana. She is not as complete as a musician as Gaga but MY FUCKING GOD Lana does know how to write songs, damn good songs. She is also good with visuals, Lana is a good visual artist. That makes a difference IMO. Lana is a incredible song writer. Look at how many leaks we have besides AKA, Sirens and BTD and Paradise albuns. Lana is not even 30 and has over what 250 songs out there if you put all in the same trunck?? So many good songs guys incredible.

I don't think Gaga whines at all compared to Lana. She is a ego maniac but not a cry baby at all. The I was bullied is a way to connect with the audience that are orphans of Michael Jackson. Because imo she got the MJ type of fans not Madonnas LOL. Lana on the other hand...cries a river every single interview.

I can't care less for artpop because imo is going to be shit. But I am looking for to hear her jazz album which I think has good chances to be really good.
