Yeah, that's mostly how i feel. These lyrics sound like self-parody, and this isn’t, by any stretch, the first time that happens. It’s staggering how much her lyrical abilities have steadily declined over her career, even just since BTD. I really don’t know what happened to the creative lyricist in her

I don’t think Y&B is necessarily a bad song, it just doesn’t do much for me, i really don't feel it. I guess my favorite aspect of the song is the arrangement (i do love the tube bells!) The bridge (lyrics aside) is better than the entire rest of the song. Some people have aptly noted that this song sounds like a kind of hybrid of a few different songs of hers, but the thing is, she already did those songs much better. Not only does this feel like a retread, but also like a leftover, an outtake. But my biggest issue with it, which i had prior to even hearing the whole song, is that it’s constructed around a clunky melody that i find neither interesting, memorable, engaging, or unusual. That the trite question in the lyrics is set to this melody just further brings it down.

I don’t want to say too much about the production because it’s a low quality file (160 kbps and you can really hear a lot of compression) but it seems like a rather plastic and cold production. Yet not plastic and cold enough to be intentional. I feel like this is obviously supposed to be an emotional song, but it sounds more like going through the motions. Her vocals are more and more often taking on this sedated, drone-y quality that, i hate to say, i’m starting to find tiring. And i’ll keep saying this: i hate the cheap sounding digital reverb they always use on her vocals, i think it does a disservice to her voice. Someone please fucking run this woman’s vocals through a real echo chamber, i promise that everyone’s minds and hearts will melt.

I think the orchestral version sounds much better and i'm interested in hearing that. But again, the lackluster melody and poor lyrics i feel are always going to get in the way of this being a good song. I’m very surprised to hear this being called one of her best songs. That’s a pretty lofty statement considering how much great material she has. I don’t know, i can’t help wonder if that’s just new release excitement talking. Maybe this one will be a grower?

Lord, i really did not set out to write this much about this song--i've barely even felt anything listening to it.

To make up for my long-winded dribble, let me leave you with a picture of some cute lambs wearing clothing:

First a warning: English isn't my first language and I'm not that good at it. It's quite likely that this text contains some grammatical mistakes but I just wanted to tell anybody about my experience and maybe it even helps you with organizing your visit to one of Lana's concerts. So I hope you don't mind.

Btw, I took some pics and made short videos of all the songs she performed. I posted them in the show thread if you want to see them. (http://lanaboards.com/index.php?/topic/1025-april-19th-vienna/)

I 100% agree it's definitely the best song on a.k.a, and my favourite song of all time by her!

I like this song because it makes me feel like the whole AKA/Nevada - Born To Die - Paradise era is over and she's ready to move onto another era. It seems like a concluding song because of all of the self references (some of them are kinda reaching but still).

I also really like how the intro sounds like Ride mixed with Video Games, like the hums of Ride with the bells of Video Games. It gives a concluding feel to it (idk)

I really like the first part of the bridge "dear lord, when I get to heaven, please let me bring my man .when he comes, tell me that you’ll let him" because it reminds me of "I'm hoping that the gates, they'll tell me that you're mine" lyric from Born to Die.

I'm not exactly sure why, but lately I've got the impression that Lana is very confident, inspired, "at peace" and that she feels free to do what she really wants with her music and her career. What I like most about this song/video is that it really adds to that impression.

Even though I love Dark Paradise, there's no way I can deny the absolute relevance of this question:

Don’t know which song it is but it’s Billie Holiday.

I like this trend of evilentity betting cake.

I have to say again, i am really very happy with this recording and i hope this is, at least in part, an indication of things to come for the new album (hello "western," "west coast" and "stripped down"). Nothing about this feels like someone else’s attempt to make her “relevant” to today’s charts. There’s a subtlety and nuance to this production that most of BTD and some of Paradise is lacking; no turning everything up loud in your face going on here. For example, i am very pleasantly surprised by and pleased with how the acoustic guitar is recorded and mixed, it’s there more for color and texture rather than as a “spotlight” instrument--you feel it more than hear it. If you have good speakers or headphones listen for the sub-bass organ note that comes in at 3:19 when Barrie sings “Oh, summer wine.” It sounds amazing. That shit fills the entire room if you’re listening on speakers, and it rattles your skull if listening on headphones. I love it. I like that throughout the whole song there’s just a kick drum and snare, and that the beat just coasts along without trying to carry the backing track on its own. And how good is the drum sound? How about that marimba? And the James Bond horns sound great. Her backing vocals are excellent and so expressive, she really nailed them. Everything seems to be working together as one, to serve the whole of the song/production, rather than the song showcasing any one thing. I am geeking out pretty hard on this one, you guys.

But someone answer me this: why do people (and so many at that) take music videos and upload them to their channel? There are like 25 channels already that have uploaded the video or just the audio. What the hell do people do this for?

Oh and notice the sweet smiles she gives the camera. I love how happy she seems here, such a big contrast to her sad pouting in other videos.

i don't think any attempt to prove onerself would immediately render that person disingenuous. in fact, i think you can do something for fun, while trying to prove yourself, and still be altogether genuine. i just wonder what her motivations are. personally, i think she wants the world to love her and to see her for who she is. not just because she's human, but because she seemed rather butt-hurt in several of her past interviews. i think she's genuine, but i also think she's smart and a bit fame-hungry. the latter two can probably cause some lines to blur

i think the colors in the first one you made fit the feeling of the song better, idk. it reminds me of the sunset and stuff ?? so the pretty reds in the first one go better IMO but the second one is good too

i think she's just doing it for fun. if she were trying to prove something to the public she'd probably stop the tour and put out another album as soon as she could.

not saying you implied this, but i don't understand why people think/say Lana is trying to prove herself, or isn't seemingly genuine in what she does? i find her to be a very genuine person. it seems really obvious to me, idk.

This is the only thing I can use to describe how I feel right now. This is perfection, they're so cute!
If this is what the new album is going to sound like, then I can't wait.

Lana makes beautiful covers, you can see where she gets her inspirations from. Yet she makes them so personal and add her signature on them. Some of her work just reminds me why I loved her at first place and why I'm a fan. Her voice, her personality, her tastes in music... It just touches me.

OMFG Chelsea Hotel and this reminded me why I loved Lana in the first place. Take away all the production and leave her with a camera and a mic. This is her forte IMO. Simple things like summer breeze is where Lana's money is. Amazing just love it. Top

Old thread, but this is my absolute favourite. I don't really know where it's from.

"People say your imagination is your greatest tool to success, and I think it's because things manifest in reality from the visions you have in your mind's eye. And so the most important thing is to really have a rich internal world, and live there, because reality will never meet your expectations."
