not sure how reliable Princess Superstar is but in that Patreon podcast she did about Lana, she said that Lana took out a loan to make all of the music she did at that time, and then she paid it off after BTD. not our business though just thought it was interesting

just like elaborating on this, it’s not like she sat down to write songs with the intention of telling a fictitious story about how her boyfriend killed somebody and got put on death row. she sat down to write a song about the emotions that a real situation (that’s not that lol) made her feel, and that extended metaphor is how she expressed those feelings. doesn’t mean she was lying or not writing autobiographically

i feel like, at the beginning of her career when she said “all of my music is 100% autobiographical” or whatever that quote was, people took it the wrong way. you can make art that is 100% about your life and still use metaphors or references to other things to talk about your actual experiences, that doesn’t mean you’re lying, it just means you’re making art which isn’t always supposed to be taken literally or at face value. she used to do that a lot. or she could’ve just been flat out lying she also did used to do that a lot lmao

i wonder how mutual it was, if rick wanted to step away from music a bit too. because the only music he’s credited on since 2019 besides old Lana outtakes she’s released since are 1 james blake song and a few songs on Tom Odell’s album in 2021. he still wasn’t producing that much for other artists besides Lana before then, but still always at least a few songs per year that weren’t for her

honestly i’ve been wondering why we only have one Rubin song in Lana’s entire discography considering post-2011 she’s worked with almost all of her collaborators more than once. I’m curious if it was a Black Beauty situation, if the label was like “you need to get in the studio with Rick Rubin” and so she just re-recorded Ride with him which she originally made with Justin

NAWWAL is from NFR sessions confirmed by Eclipse, but that’s it. although NFR and Chemtrails were worked on back to back, so there still might be a slight overlap or very short amount of time between FIILY (last song recorded for NFR) and the first song recorded specifically for Chemtrails. this isn’t confirmed, but I have my own theory that besides NAWWAL/LMLYLAW, the Chemtrails title track was the first song written for that album considering she said “I’m only thinking about star signs for the next thing I’m doing” like a week after NFR came out Also Dark But Just a Game uses NFR’s title track original melody, so you can sorta count that if you want

fun fact, it’s to make the album exactly 33:33 minutes long! so it’s a palindrome like the album title although she could’ve spared to add an entire song to reach that length lmfaooo

idk, it doesn’t have to be. Maggie Rogers sends out newsletters with essays about the creative processes for random songs every once in a while, it’s definitely authentic and written by her from the heart lol, it’s too personal to not have been. i just wish it was taken further. i’m very grateful for all of the info BOZ has shared, but it any case i think it would always be more interesting to hear it from lana herself, plus we don’t really have any idea about the morality of how he knows everything he does so a part of me feels kind of weird about it, despite again being very grateful all of these mysteries are being solved. but Lana would never talk about what we’ve learned yesterday and today, and would never do anything remotely like my suggestion either so it doesn’t really matter, she doesn’t even take the time to write out the full lyrics for her album booklets anymore
