Isn't Halsey opening for The Weeknd? I wonder if they met

It isn't ironic how these things happened when the bad side of fame became such an important issue in her music? Lana talks about a story about feeling like someone is stalking in her own house, recorded a video about the same issue and ended up being stalked and stolen. Life really imitates art after all

There is a fire in UV that HM can't really replicate. HM It's a beatiful record but everytime I listen to it I feel like something is missing, I can't really explain what.

I thought it was cute how she says she's proud of it. It's not official but I'm sure by how things turn out to be Interscope or Polydor gave her a hard time, If I could bet I would say she fought ( like she did with UV) to release this album as it is. They obviously tried to set her up with Mark Ronson, she "leaked" her own song, she created HM instagram and promoted the album herself. So yeah, I'm also really proud of her by that. Our girl isn't selling out and is doing the best of it considering the circumstances. I'm sure a bunch of other artist would die to have sales comparable to this.

Sadly there isn't any other single that could save the album commercially. Even if The Blackest Day is one of her best songs still not comercial enough to play on radio.

Yeah, hopefully it turn out to be a great interview. He's really good writers as well I'm sure it's not a coincidence all of her interviews this era so far aren't conventional reporters ( James Franco, The Weeknd and now Bruce). Maybe she demands now to choose the writers/interviewers.

Lana was interviewed by Bruce Wagner ( screenwriter of Maps to The Stars). This is really promising and really weird because he's known for observing the hollywood life or "the dark side of fame". I wonder how he will portray Lana since she shares similar ideas in her songs

Why not? If these "disney girls" with heavy promotional campaigns and tv performances and hit singles aren't able to sell more than an artist that basically advertised her new album only on instagram I would consider a good result. Just imagine how much money Interscope spent with an album with 15 producers and more than 38 writers (Revival). Without mentioning costs of musicians, studios and how Max Martin it's expensive, marketing and etc and probably more tracks produced that didn't make it. John Janick ( new Interscope CEO) loves to talk about Selena every chance he can because obviously it costed them a lot of money and she's his first signed artist. Then imagine the look on his face when she sells less than an artist that he probably doesn't care because she isn't "marketable". That is bad. Lana? Not so much. Of course her sales are declining but her music is getting less and less comercial too. I would bet the decline has more to do with this than the promotional that you guys love to talk about like is going to save her career if she appears in tv show when it's clear that it doesn't work like that.

It's not the best example in this scenario. This is more like when you do a test at school and you know you're not going to get good grades but then in the end your final result is better than you expected.

Didn't she did slightly better than Halsey and now Selena and maybe Demi ( first week sales)? - Lana ( 105 pure sales) - Halsey ( 97k pure sales) - Selena ( 86k pure sales)*not sure about this one but that's the number I saw somewhere It's not a competition but Lana did well. Her problem ( since Paradise) is longevity because she drops an album and then forget about it.

considering she didn't even promoted this album she did really well. Just compare her to some "pop" artist that have hit singles, promotional campaign and performances on every tv show and some of them can't really reach these numbers.

Sometimes I can't stand to listen this album and then all of sudden I'm addicted and completely blown away by it. off topic: I can't see my profile picture. Am I a tropico now?

I think her career would be so different right now if the initial response to her work ( BTD) was actually positive. Someone like FKA Twigs isn't selling amount of records but all the blogs are about her. Would you feel discouraged if you were treated like a joke on national television? Sometimes we forget how the backlash affected her, she even said that what people think of her changed her psyche. Let's compare this: “I know a lot of different people. When they are drunk, in the dark of the night they all want the same thing. They all want to be famous. It’s innately human to want other people to bear witness to your life. It’s important for people to be watched. They don’t want to be alone. I don’t want to be alone.” She truly had an romanticized vision of fame that now in no longer part of her, The whole HM era is about anti-voyeurism and her desire to be far from the spotlight. But it did changed her music for better too.

When I first heard Swan Song I thought it was ok but the last part "put your white tennis shoes on and follow me" got stuck in my head for days and the more I listened more I love it. Now it's on my top 5 HM along with TBD, Salvatore, Religion and MTBT

well, can I admit that maaaybe I was not really considering the majority of opinion but really just mine? I was struggling to get my final opinion whether this album is better or not than what she released so far

Give a year from now. A lot of people thought Paradise was better than BTD when it came out but now it's a common sense it's not that good. The same thing is happening with UV x HM

What I really like about UV is how she took every single of the criticism she received and instead of denying them she incorporated in her music. People complained about anti-feminist lyrics? She wrote a song with the line "you hit it me and it felt like a kiss"; there were rumors about fucking her way up to the top? She wrote a song Fucked My Way Up to the top; some fail blogger wrote she changed just to be famous and get money? She did Money Power Glory. This album is full of irony and anger. When it comes to her lyrics I think it's pretty clear that she abandoned the unrealistic romantic persona of the "lucky one" to be "the other woman". A lot of her lyrics play into the idea of her being the mistress on this guy life and it's a more realistic take on romance and love than anything on BTD. As a whole I can see more ambition on UV than anything on HM.

My honest opinion: I feel like this album is going to be just another Paradise in her career - a beautiful record but with no really artistic development. The true is that we ( as fans) listened to her music so much and spend our times reading her interviews, lyrics and trying to understand every single piece of her work that' listening to Lana, her world and vision it's easier for us than the rest of the world. I think it happened with everyone here but how many songs you hated when you first listened and still think it's bad but now you are capable of listening because it's a Lana song? What really happened with me while listening to this album is I found myself questioning "Am I liking this because it's good or because is Lana singing?" quite often. And this is because I don't feel any surprise listening to this, it's Lana in her better version of herself but I still feel like "I've been there, done that". Does it make sense? Has someone here felt the same way? It's not bad it's lacks something as a whole....maybe ambition to expand her sound and landscape. I can feel her ambition and vision with some tracks ( Salvatore and The Blackest Day) but also her boredom on the rest of the album. If I could choose one line to define the album I think I would say “I've got nothing much to live for/Ever since I found my fame" because this lack of desire and aspiration it's clear through the album.
