  1. lol - purpose doesn't always equate good. I'm sure I intended to take a shit this morning. It was still a shit.
  2. Can we talk about how this bit... ... almost singlehandedly turned the positive message of "thank u, next" into complete exploitation? Like, as a friend of mine said, she's basically turned this kind of "tragedy" into her brand, but isn't showing any kind of poignancy or gentility to any of it. That may be a bit subjective, but I don't know. This really, really rubs me the wrong way and is adding onto all the more reasons I'm realizing that this song really misses for me, and why Ariana is just dwindling with me as an artist I want to even listen to (as much as "no tears" will always be one of the best pop songs of this decade.)
  3. I hate to gloat, but I'm a very fluid and easygoing listener, especially if something bops. But the lyrics of this one on top of the gross production are what have me completely disengaged from this one. Like, the lyrics make absolute no sense, and they're obviously not trying to be abstract. I don't think I've hated a song this much since "Blurred Lines", and that one I hated for moral reasons, so that says a lot about this .... thing.
  4. This is one of the worst songs I've ever heard in my life. Girl, what you doing?
  5. I can understand Lana embracing Chuck's more "mundane" style, since that's the complete opposite of the beehive aesthetic she was once criticized for.
  6. What if the "In Your Car" snippet is just the opening to HiaB... Backseats, y'all.
  7. Kate Bush is my other queen, so I'd see a trend and start questioning who I really am.
  8. Yep! The 8 artist rule they made is why I definitely think there's room for her to be that critical favorite that gets in. So far, based on the reviews of the three "fan singles" (including Pitchfork's rave essay), the fact nobody major flipped out over the "black narcissist" bullshit people tried to start up (because they're literate), and how many outlets and publications are placing it high on their anticipation lists... I think it's a shoo-in for an 80+ on Metacritic, no doubt.
  9. Glad to know I'm not the only one who sincerely thinks this is getting an AOTY nod.
  10. Eminem, Melanie Martinez, Dua Lipa, Drake, AC/DC, Christina Aguilera, Die Antwoord, The Chainsmokers, Katy Perry, Sam Smith, etc
  11. Not to mention how viciously divisive they all are on what they want and expect from her. It is notoriously known as one of the craziest fanbases for these reasons.
  12. As much as I understand this, and understand also that Lana doesn't care nor that they equate quality of any sort of music, it's very apparent that Lana's success on them is why she's capable of doing what she does today, and that it can be ripped from her at any time if those things don't hold on par. Creative freedom comes at a cost in the music industry, unfortunately.
  13. Giving Lana's consistency in approaching her albums with "concept" in mind, I expect there to be another track on NFR that's lengthier... maybe 7-8 minutes or so. So really, I do think, with what we have so far, and the sorta of introspective nature of it, it'd be best to go the UV route and stick with the lower side of tracks to avoid over-pumping the narrative. So I think 11-12 is perfect (although, I wouldn't complain about bonus tracks, but I'm sure she's done with that formula, which I respect.) I have a feeling she may do another "transition" halfway through the album again like she did L4L, only more on the subtle side, and Venice Bitch could very well be the centerpiece (track 5 or 6) that is followed up by something like Cinnamon, so that the album kinda morphs from guitar/rock vibes, to the hip hop with piano and guitar, and possibly ending with the bareness of HiaDT and the final piano/hip hop/rock infusion we heard of the production for HtD... A graph because I'm stoned and bored: 01. MAC 02. NFR 03. HiaB 04. (something guitar/piano) 05. (something guitar/piano) 06. VB 07. Cinnamon 08. (something bop like Cinnamon with guitar/piano) 09. (something bop like Cinnamon with guitar/piano) 10. HiaDTFaWLMTH-BIHI (the Old Money fo the album) 11. HtD
