It goes deeper than that, though. Lana is constantly being snubbed, whether it be Billboard, the Grammys, the Oscars, the critics. It's not fair. It doesn't affect how I appreciate Lana's music but I'd love to see her get some due credit for once. She outsold two big-name male artists this past week without doing any promo. The facts speak for themselves, so for her to not get the title of a #1 album simply isn't fair and it's rooted in underlying issues with sexism in the industry and the way people with power and money abuse the system. I'm being dramatic, yes, but accolades like a #1 album mean something to an artist even if they don't admit it and it's what validates an artist and allows them to continue making music and high-budget videos.
It'd be different if it was actually close and their was no fraud and cheating involved but Lana earned that #1 fair and square, so she should get it. I won't justify a rigged, cheating system, especially in the defense of fucking Bleak Bill.

My sister and I have our own house together and it's brutally hot out and my room is in the basement so she's sleeping with me and goes "can you play Lana's new album, it relaxes me so much..." and this is the fifth time she's begged me to play it. Also, so many of my cousins and friends have been texting me telling me how much they love the album. I could cry I'm so proud.

Lorde and most "alt" female artists, I honestly believe, wouldn't exist or be even nearly as successful if it wasn't for Lana's innovative trail blazing way back in 2011/2012. Think about it. Why has Lana received such a polarizing reaction? Why did she get so much hate and these women to follow have been praised? Because Lana was the martyr. She was the first to do it. She shook the male-dominated alternative genre to its core and brought a new, fresh sound to music, one that melted catchy pop with dark lyrics and dark underlying instrumentals... it's so common now, thanks to Lana, but back in 2011, the idea of a left-of-center female artist having such a strong aesthetic and signature appearance seemed so odd and unfamiliar. Whether these new female artists wanna admit it or not, Lana has, at least subconsciously, influenced hundreds of alt/tumblr/mainly female artists that have followed her.

    Examples:

Lorde, BANKS, FKA twigs, Billie Eilish, Melanie Martinez, Troye Sivan (tbh), Halsey (obviously), Ryn Weaver, Allie X

I love Lorde to the moon in back, I own LordeNews on twitter where she follows me but to say her music isn't more radio friendly than Lana's just isn't true. The structure of her songs, the production, it's all very poppy and geared towards radioplay. MELODRAMA was promoted more as an album release and with fewer singles but Green Light and HD are literally dance numbers that Lana has never done. And Green Light was a moderate radio hit while Royals was #1 on radio for many weeks and Team did well too.

Music To Watch Boys To and Body Electric were added to Lana's setlist. Finally she's mixing it up.

I'm gonna stop everyone right there and just ask that you acknowledge Lana's slayage.

She just outsold two big-name male artists and got her second #1 while one of her opponents literally tried cheating his way to the top. How's that for shattering this increasingly male-dominated music chart scene so far this year? Lana not once mentioned wanting to go #1, fuck she didn't even tweet a link for the album download until almost a week after release, she did no promo whatsoever (per usual), had no radio support whatsoever (once again, per usual), she made no TV or radio appearances and she STILL got that #1!

The fact that Lana is selling as much in her first week as massive, mainstream, radio-supported artists like Lorde and Katy are is truly something to praise. There is obviously something special about Lana and her music. I can't name any other artist who could get away with doing the bare minimum promotion-wise and still go #1. But it's because she puts in the time in the studio and she works so hard to make music that is so signature to her. She's so consistent in sound, aesthetic, and 2-year releases. I love Lana so much and I just wish her fans and the general public would acknowledge just how well she's doing for such a low-key artist. That's how powerful her music is.

I'll never forget the time I attempted to drag her for making deragatory, sexist comments on twitter and she replied with a picture that explicitly told me how to take my opinion and properly insert it into my non-existent vagina.

Can't deny that I still listen to the gems that are "Wallace", "Idle Delilah", and "Luxury" from time to time no matter how much I despise this whack ass bitch.

The censored parts are names. Confirmed by God herself so I was right and so were most of us
  10. cheaptrailertrashglm liked a post in a topic by GroupieLover in Get Free
No, sis. Clearly that wasn't my point, considering I'm not the one trashing Lana for censoring the names of these people to literally do that exactly thing (protect identity). My point was that making up random names to replace these people who have real names would seem contrived and unnecessary. I believe the way she chose to do it is perfect.

It was personal choice I'm sure. It gives the song more meaning to her. It probably meant a lot to her that she included it and using fake names would be stupid and shallow imo.

*gasps* not some of you bringing down godliness (IMF) to justify lazy trash (WM). In My Feelings is a bop and the pre-chorus is instantly catchy, hence why we all lost our shit over the first snippet. And knowing IMF is dragging G -Sleazy makes it all the better. At least the production on IMF seems cohesive throughout and the verses flow well into the chorus and middle 8. WM could and will never.

This is so unexpected lmao. But a 90 from The 405 should count for a lot on Metacritic so perhaps 'critical acclaim' is still possible after all.

Lana said herself that the song told about her "entire journey" up until this point. These "censored" words obviously have a shit ton of significant and are super personal. I'm confident they're names of people. Perhaps people she's lost to drug-abuse or other things. Heroin leads me to think she may have lost someone to this drug and maybe she mentions him/her here?

"I'm doing it for all of us who never got a chance. For ____ and for _____. For all my birds of paradise who never got to fly at night". She probably included this part because she wanted to honor these people in her song and keep it sincere to her story without exposing these people or disrespecting their names. She didn't want to get too specific or revealing but felt she needed to acknowledge that she's searching for happiness for not only herself but for those in her life who never got the chance to find it before leaving the earth.

First Donald Trump became president and now this? If Meek gets that #1, we need to demand justice so BB knows not to count that shit for future releases. It simply isn't ethical or technically correct at all.

I want Lana to do a patriotic, feminist-themed video for God Bless America. I think it'd be amazing if, during the first 15 seconds of the song, as the guitar intro plays, Lana is standing in front of the American flag as the camera pans out, just like she does in the BTD video, but this time instead of holding onto a man, she's holding onto a bunch of women, all of different races, religions, appearances, etc. and they're all holding one another in the same embrace Lana and that bad boy is in the BTD video. It would be such a beautiful statement of unity among women and also be a homage to her most iconic video to date, which would be beautiful. Come through Lana?

The reason "Summer Bummer" hasn't become a huge radio hit is because Lana's team pays no attention to the major marketing platform that is radio and never sent or pushed it to Top 40 radio stations.
  21. LOVE liked a post in a topic by GroupieLover in Unpopular Lana Opinions
The song isn't even about falling in love, hence why she changed the title to simply "Love". The song is meant to be more universal and all-inclusive. The lyrics make no mention about young love but instead about being youthful and loving at heart in a world that's becoming increasingly more hateful and confusing. She doesn't even mention love once until the end of the chorus and when she posted that video of her singing the song on her insta awhile back she changed it to "it's enough to FEEL young and HAVE LOVE IN YOUR HEART". Artists tend to simplify things a bit to be simply about a singular love so it's more personal and intimate but the song ain't even about falling in love, not in the context she wrote it at least.

Which is we need a video for it. Her videos always elevate the songs. This is the one song that doesn't captivate on its own. An added visual may help.
