Norman Fucking Rockwell - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
IanadeIrey replied to Elle's topic in Post-Release Threads
Re-listened to this record in full recently and I have to say (contrary to LB’s belief), it sounds just as good as it did in 2019. One of her best for sure. I have so many positive and formative personal memories that happened to coincide with the release of the singles and then the entire album, so for that reason, NFR! will probably always be in my top favourite Lana albums. It’s funny how we attach parts of ourselves to the music, which totally affects our listening. -
Honestly, what people say Lana’s “worst” albums are, are still better than so many people’s best albums. So either way, it’s a win for her. That said, all the records are part of a bigger narrative, so without Blue Banisters, Ocean Blvd would probably not exist. So even if it’s not someone’s favourite, every record has its place.

Of course! I agree, it’s such a gorgeous car, I’m glad it’s immortalized on the UV cover! And yeah, I remember that too - I believe it happened to two of her cars in 2015, and they were both Jaguars? It’s wild how that happens… Welcome to LanaBoards, by the way! Hope you have as much fun as we do around here! You’ve joined at the perfect time with Ocean Blvd around the corner lol!

She still has it as far as we know! She just doesn’t seem to drive it anymore (not since summer 2012). The last time we saw it was in August 2020 - she had posted a video to Instagram of her personal trainer demonstrating some exercises outside her house, and we could see the Mercedes parked in the driveway. I really loved it too!

I’m sorry to hear </3 but if I know anything about you just by interacting with you on here, Poor Stacy, it’s that you have a conviction and character that will take you anywhere you want and need to be. Trust that everything will be okay in due time and that the music can guide you in the meantime. And as always, we got you ❤️

Oh definitely. I think, as personal as her songs are, they can absolutely be situated in the social context of being a woman. I actually really appreciate A&W as a sociological song, because she totally details the process of internalizing a label that became externalized onto her by others. And the whole process of analyzing her karmic family lineage and tracing “patterns” in her life related to family is a very sociological method of thought!

Ugh same Even if you get off ATRL or LanaBoards or whatever, you see it all over Instagram and Twitter. I really think it’s symptomatic of the Digital Age, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing - but it shows how you kind of can’t control what you see/hear online unless you completely abandon use of any devices (which is impossible today).

Omg girl 😭 you don’t sound pessimistic at all and you are NOT dragging anything on at all. Don’t let anyone make you think that you are either 🚫 ❤️ That’s a good point! He could be an engineer (on the cover it just says Dean Reid and Laura Sisk, but Ian could also be part of the crew - Sam Dew technically has production/writing credits on A&W but isn’t credited on the cover. So you may be right!! 🫶)

My perhaps controversial take is that her BBC interview was actually really good…like yes, it was definitely overblown because of the general controversy around her at the time, but what she actually said was really profound. It’s really important to hear what someone is saying and separate it from all the “noise” people make around it. On topic: She was working with an “Ian” ( Ian Fitchuk?) in Sept as per her IG stories and he’s not on Ocean Blvd at all — so it’s not far fetched that 6 months later, she has another album to announce (presumably with those Ian songs)
