Okay okay okay I've held this in for way too long but "INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY" APPLIES TO A COURT OF LAW   N O T   THE COURT OF PUBLIC OPINION. THE PUBLIC CANNOT CONVICT SOMEONE OF RAPE. ONLY THE COURTS CAN. SCREAMING "INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY" IS USELESS IN THIS CONTEXT. IT'S LIKE SCREAMING "FREE SPEECH" AT YOUR MOM WHEN SHE TELLS YOU THAT YOU CAN'T CURSE. THESE LEGAL STANDARDS DON'T APPLY TO EVERYTHING OR EVERYONE IN EVERY CONTEXT. IN ADDITION, "INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY" IS A TACTIC THAT OPPRESSORS USE TO OPPRESS AND SILENCE THEIR VICTIMS.

I don't really care for Melanie Martinez either way, but Timothy's story resonates with me because it's similar to one of my experiences. It happened when I was 15 but I didn't comprehend the fact that what happened to me really was sexual assault until recently. I always just thought of it as a terrible mistake.

I feel like everyone wants this to be false, but with how she described it, the fact that Melanie and her used to be decently good friends and also Melanie is friends with Yungelita who is a very questionable person. All of this combined makes me think this is true and it really hurts me to say that because I love her music and the message she sends with her songs

No offense, but hoping something bad happens to somebody doesn't make you look any better. Weather you threatened somebody or not isn't the point. It's the intent of the words. Wishing rape upon somebody is a terrible thing to say. If it turns out Melanie did rape her, I'd see you as no better.

So if she was lying, MM could sue her for libel (which requires her to present the burden of proof of actual malice). The thing is, it's such a risk to come out and accuse a public figure of rape/molestation/etc. that more often than not, the accusations are true. Timothy could lose a considerate about of money and even her career if it was a lie. Additionally, she would get a lot of bad press and to my knowledge, it seems like she is trying to become a musician herself. With all that being said... what's the point of lying? She has so much to lose.
 
That's kind of the paradigm that appears with a lot of sexual assault cases that involve public figures. Alleged victims have so much to lose from accusing someone of sexual assault. It's better to believe them than to be too skeptical.

Yep, her (ex)stans must be having a really hard time. But knowing that she did this must be enough to make her music sound reeeaally uncomfortable, so they'll be over her in no time.

I'm sort of hoping it turns out to be the truth in the end so y'all can learn to stop assuming something. i don't know how many women had their lives ruined, family not talking to them anymore just because of a stupid man who decided to abuse them and had a bunch of raging idiots automatically accusing her of lying, asking for "PROOF"

Imagine how many women have had their lives ruined by being raped........
It's a lot more than the amount of false accusations.
