A decade later and I'm *finally* gonna download Fever To Tell. As a Strokes fan since 2001 this is really kind of embarrassing...

When I studied A Streetcar Named Desire in English, I noticed the 'kindness of strangers' part too and it reminded me of Lana. I do think her and Blanche have quite a bit in common cause they both have the sketchy-mystery-past and speak poetically, although Lana still has her marbles. I imagine Lana really liking her as a character for some reason.

One of my favorite movies . Um bonde chamado desejoooooooo aiiiiiiii. can it be?   Possible. I mean the "kindness of strangers"quote is very famouis. I never thought about that   and I saw that movie at least 4 times. Gentileza de desconhecidos its a common say here maybe that's why I didn't did the connection. You're a little genius aren't you?

I don't if this has been mentioned / discussed elsewhere, and I do know it's kinda speculative, but bear with me...

Blanche Dubois. You know, of 'A Streetcar Named Desire'? I've recently re-watched the film and it got me thinking.

From Wikipedia - "(...) the former Southern belle has a lurid past (a marriage to a young homosexual who committed suicide when she discovered his secret; notorious sexual promiscuity; ongoing alcoholism, etc.) as well as genuine spiritual idealism and refinement."

Also her attraction to violent and "wrong" men / abusive relationships, the tragic death of her first love (albeit in very different circumstances), her insecurity and absolute need to be adored by everyone (especially men), and last but not least Blanche's iconic quote "I have always depended on the kindness of strangers", which Lana could be referencing in the Ride monologue as well as in Kinda Outta Luck and Carmen.

Carmen in particular sounds like it could have been at least partly inspired by her or a Blanche-like character --- Darling, darling, doesn't have a problem / Lying to herself cause her liquor's top shelf / It's alarming honestly how charming she can be / Fooling everyone, telling how she's having fun (...) Baby's all dressed up, with nowhere to go / That's the little story of the girl you know / Relying on the kindness of strangers / Tying cherry knots, smiling, doing party favours / Put your red dress on, put your lipstick on --- not to mention the little French interlude.

At the very least she's maybe a character Lana somewhat relates to / feels inspired by? I don't know, maybe it's too much of a stretch, but what do you guys think?

Oh yeah, I completely forgot to mention this one. If Work and Ignorant Art are anything to go by, it could be a pretty damn good album. I just hope it sounds more like Work and Pussy than Bounce...

I think Y&B is about K, the one who is apparently dead/in jail.
What gives it away you ask?

Whoever this K guy is, isn't getting out of jail tomorrow, it's going to be awhile, and when it happens Lana will have aged and won't look like her young self (as in looking young and beautiful)
(FYI, K getting out of jail is interchangeable with him already being dead and Lana waiting to get to heaven to meet him there. K died young, Lana dies as an old wrinkly woman. Will he still love her in the afterlife if she is no longer youthfully beautiful?)

This becomes more apparent in the bridge.
Lana is begging god to bring K to heaven instead of hell. Even though he has committed a crime and has sinned, he still has a good heart and makes Lana feel good inside. If not, Lana will be forever lonely and depressed.

With the line "had my cake now," Lana is relating life to desserts. A dessert (the cake) is the final dish to a full course meal. It's the happy ending; ones last meal before bed. Lana has lived a prosperous and eventful life and is ready to move onto the afterlife and be with her one true love.

Funny that she mentions Bel Air, if I were to analyze that song (Bel Air), I would decode it as Bel Air being heaven and Lana waiting to meet her one true love (K) there, much like this song.

The first verse of Y&B reminds me very much of Carey Mulligans character in Gatsby, but the second verse is very typical of Lana, which makes me think Lana went back and made adjustments lyrically to the song to fit the movie. I also get an "American" vibe whenever I listen to the song. Again, there's also similarities lyrically, which makes me think American may have once been intended to be for Gatsby. After all, Gatsby's skin is golden brown,

    YES, definitely.

In my case, it was nowhere near the worst concert I've ever been to in terms of heat / being compressed / very nearly passing out and seriously considering asking the security guys to take me out of there. Not even close.

“I’ve never had a worse person on stage, always wants to hug and be with her fans and whenever she runs into the crowd we’re all afraid something will happen to her, but I love the way she sings and performs. If I were a fan, I would freak out if she ran into the crowd. But, as a security guard, I hate it and hate her doing it all the time.” - Lana Del Rey’s security guards

Amanda Bynes is looking like a mix of all characters from Girl Interrupted. Quite sad.

Justin is another thing. He is a spoild little bitch but I don't think he is mean. I guess the level of fame he has is too much even for extremely famous people. From US to Turkey Bieber can not even go to a movie or a mall. I think the level of fame he has a very few people had. MJ and Madonna maybe. It's insane even between famous people like Brad Pitt. The guy doesn't have a life literally. He has to shut down stores and with good reason since those 12 year old go insane. Did anyone saw the video of his concert in Norway? Was on the news he literaly shut down the city he couldn't get out of the hotel. And is like this pretty much every where he goes. I think after a certain point drives you crazy. Like really crazy and somewhat angry. I think he handles really well even if he is a little bitch he is not as half as bad as he could be. I actually think his life is pretty sad. You can say "he has all the money and fame" but after a while after having all the perks and toys money can buy what's left? He has a ferrari but to drive the car he needs security. He has all the clothes but can't even wear them on the street because he can't walk on the streets. The guy can't even go to a beach.

About the drugs they said was a small amount of weed. I mean let's be real....who cares about a small amount of weed in a tour bus?? The media makes it sound like he was dealing cocaine or something.

You’re right, i spoke too soon. I should have known that Lana Del Rey fans who, like, once watched a video on YouTube about Rihanna with the word Illuminati in the title, or heard something about something from someone who knows someone, would be well informed on various secret 16th Century Bavarian organizations.

Hey, maybe litewave will come into this thread and shut me up with the ultimate analysis of Lana Del Rey, which ties her to a rich lineage of Bavarian esotericists.

Lots of Masons were Catholics, by the way. A lot of that stuff was just white men getting together to drink and be assholes.

Oooh, let us know how the bonus features are! I really want to see them, but i'm gonna wait until my library gets the DVD. If this "remix" reconstructing of the film entirely from unused footage is really going to happen, i wonder if and how that is going to affect what deleted scenes/outtakes are included in the bonus features. I really, really want to see outtakes from this movie. I know that during filming they attached Harinezumi cameras on top of the cinema cameras but that seems pointless since it's virtually the same shot/angle that was being shot on film, and i am not a fan of the Harinezumi aesthetic. There's a video for James Franco's new band Daddy (with vocals from Smokey Robinson, haa) that is comprised entirely of this footage. I wasn't really into it. I want to see actual unused 35mm footage. And lots of behind the scenes. I live for that shit.

OMG. And Lana slays me once again! This video will be flawless, I just know it. I'm sure it will be as epic as Ride and National Anthem, it will legit be the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life. Like, OMG, I am dying here. I'm crying so hard right now that I actually can't breathe, can't someone please hold me?! To all of you making mean comments about goddess Lana: she's flawless!!! Sure, she's just a wee bit fat and should probably lose a bit of weight and maybe tone her abs - but she's still perfect regardless! (Oh, btw, does anyone else think the whole stripping / go-go dancing thing could represent the loss of innocence? You know, the angel looking to get fucked hard and all that? Makes sense, right?!)
