Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread

It’s only a snippet. From the snippet, VB wasn’t hinting anything at the guitar showcase we got after the 3 min mark. I don’t think HTD will get into that, but we still got 8 more tracks to hear before judging Hope it’s next week, like she did with the other two (to tease them a couple of days before release) Hope it’s next week, like she did with the other two (to tease them a couple of days before release) -

I am not a big fan of the MAC video, but VB’s is hypnotic and fits the song perfectly. -

I think this is the aesthetic of this era: I am who I am, I know what I can do best, I accept who I am and live with it. So we're back to minimalist videos and looks. She described the album as desert, with surfy touches, desert, Laurel Canyon; her natural looks are perfect for this. Also, we love the vintage look of Video Games: the videos of NFR are all homemade it seems. Plus I kinda get a bit of "back to my roots" vibe to so VB and MAC, so the minimal approach seems adequate for the videos as well. VB's video is really a good one, though not as spectacular as some others she did in the past, but quite effective. -

I honestly loved all of them. I thought they were bringing a new layer to each and everyone of the songs they were on. -

I am skeptical as well most of the time, but that fan account (Lanadelnews on Insta) was mentioned by Lana at least one time on one of her livestreams: my guess is that fan is messaging her everyday and she sometimes responds. It's also one of the few accounts on Insta that didn't get axed during the LFL era. The news are always about official releases, and they don't always get everything before us. Anyways, I always take everything with a grain of salt, but when that account mentions something, I tend to have more faith in what's said. exactly. That album feels intimate and passionate, and I don't see guests everywhere. But if there is a Marina collab, if it gets released, I think it's gonna be good. Anybody else thought, when she posted the pic with Lana and Marian drinking tea, that «Boy Tears» would be a cool song title? The two of them being all femme fatale and destroying man hearts everywhere they go? A sorta Telma and Louise duet, with the guitar and all? -

That fan account sometimes speaks to someone on Lana's team. They don't get exclusive scoops though, sometimes just information a bit before everyone else. I think they are talking indeed about the October song. Could be based upon the interview or personal messages with someone on the team. I think her exact words for the possible October song were that it was a song that "stands on its own"; could be a standalone single, could be that it is the most serious song of the record, could be that this song doesn't have a "sister track", or it could be something altogether new that nobody understood lol. -

According to Lanadelnews on Insta (who is a reliable fan account: Lana acknoledged him on a couple of live feeds), our girl is currently debating wheter or not she will be releaseing a new single this month. That single would be part of NFR. https://www.instagram.com/p/BoaqWX5BtTx/?hl=fr&taken-by=lanadelnews -
Things You Know Lana Won't Do
GeminiLanaFan replied to Make me your Dream Life's topic in Lana Thoughts
Do reggae or death metal? She is very diverse and all, but these two genre aren't her at all. i would love a song dedicated to us... as long as it is a good one, tasteful and all. Like Beautiful by Christina Aguilera was: not too specific, yet very poignant. Problem is, with pop stars having a song dedicated to gays is that I often doubt its sincerity... Like is it just a marketing scam to cash on us or is it sincere? I'm sure we'll get Yosemite and Life is Beautiful at some point in our lives... Like in a super collection of her unreleased or remastered leaks (if Yosemite isn't on NFR). Let's just hope we don't get that super collection of hers after tragic events (like she dies suddenly and Interscope wants to cash in on the tragedy). -

MAC is more personal, and we are closer to the songwriter side of Lana. MAC could be a Leonard Cohen song (no wonder it quotes him with «I'm your man»). VB is so sensuous, beginning soft then getting so trippy, like a never-ending kiss. I prefer VB, because it's one of the long stories she tells in her discography (all of her 6 minutes + songs are incredible), and she took a goddamn risk by putting that out as a single. With NFR, she doesn't seem to be looking for singles and number ones, but rather to have a solid album that will probably won't be noticed that much with mainstream medias, but could be critically acclaimed. -
Moments/memories of your life involving Lana's music
GeminiLanaFan replied to Beautiful Loser's topic in Lana Thoughts
I have a weird connection with Lana's albums: she sings exactly what I am going through at that time of my life. I first noticed Lana with Blue Jeans: i was in a bar, waiting for a guy I had been seeing on and off for almost two years. I remember hearing the words and the melody and something rang true. And then he came in... This is when I started listening to her. It was in just after Paradise was out. So BTD - Paradise is the soundtrack to that relationship: a guy who was mysterious, a bit dangerous, unlike any other I had met before. UV came out and it was at the time that I had just broken up with the dude that I was in love with. and it was a messy breakup, learning about his multiple infidelities while we were going out. So imagine hearing the irony and despair of the songs of UV.., They fitted perfectly my mood. HM was the period of my life where my mom passed away from a long illness. The calm sounds of despair of this album rang so true to me. The Blackest Day still remains one of my favorites from her. When 2017 kicked, after a year and a half of grief, I was ready to be «fully happy» again. Love came out, LFL was supposed to be her happy album... Pre-release dragged on and on and on... And just before it came out, I realized that something was missing, that I wasn't really happy, that happiness was fragile and the my life was about to change, though I was not feeling like it. So LFL came out... And with 13 Beaches, I realized that we were not in «Mary Sunshine mode» at all on this album. The chorus of 13 Beaches rang so true, same with her voice of WTWWAW, which gave me hope of a better tomorrow. I really got into Get Free by the end of 2017: I was ready to be get out of the black and into the blue. Change is special to me: I was feeling like something was going to happen in my life. Mac and VB are already songs I associate with. I am seeing someone new, someone I love very much, and the sensuality of those two songs just represent what I am living, once again. -

I am hoping for it too... but it could be delayed. In that interview, it’s a real « i’m Not so sure » kinda feeling about that single.I’ve been relistening to the interview with Zane Lowe... The poetry book was something she was thinking about seriously only three weeks prior to speaking to him!?!?! Maybe she’ll switch the two projects: NFR first, then Violets Something Something Backwards on the Grass (whatever how the book is called). -

UV was supposed to come out on May 1st if I am right. Problem was, though, that the Black Keys (Dan’s band) were releasing their album also on May 1st. My guess is that UV was done by that time but Interscope didn’t want to interfere with Dan and wanted a number 1 album, so it got pushed back to June 13. -

Lana’s music can be listened to at any season, but LFL is really summer. Almost all the songs from it « make more sense » in summer. HM is really end-of-summer also. The others are not that strongly associated to a season in my mind. -

And about the speculation for a May or June release, it would really be surprising if it happened: nowadays, artists have a pre-release period that extend up to 5 months prior to the album, and with 2 new singles out, it would be weird to extend it to 9 months. All momentum would be Lost. And the album seems to be in its last stages, from what she said in interviews (and, for once, the description fits lol). -

So, October is almost upon us... Will we get a new single? -
An unreleased one recorded initially for the Big Eyes soundtrack. A snippet surfaced at the end of summer where Lana sings Goodbye, which would fit the end of the song (a Frank Sinatra cover). It has very UV vibes to it.

Because humans want what they can’t have lol. Stans see a song they don’t have as the holy grail or some shit like that, with crazy high expectations. Personally, I live very well with songs I don’t have if Lana didn’t talk a lot about it or posted a snippet. Then I am craving for more! With MAC and VB being stellar, I am not craving for Yosemite that much now. The Good Life though... -

The Sylvia song, if it exists, is supposed to be the saddest shit she’s ever written, according to fans who asked about it. So maybe this one? Or another one we never heard of (nobody had any info about MAC or VB before she announced them)? Because we’ve been rambling on and on in the Pre-Pre-release thread (we want that sound, we want that collab, and all the LFL hate). Now we have a better idea of the sound of NFR, but Lana keeps her cards very close to her chest this time around, so maybe this is why we are so quiet: nobody knows anything and there are no reliable insiders this time around. Thank you!!! I was about to doubt I was the only one who heard that! -

I see green for this album... Green vinyl and green lettering... I still think, from what we gathered in her interview with Zane Lowe, that the October song, if we get one, will be a stand-alone single. with MAC and VB, plus what we know from the track Norman Fucking Rockwell, the album seems to be telling the story of her past lovers... Yosemite and BAR could end up there, though I am not sure at all about BAR. I love the song, but it lacks the passion MAC and VB have. -
Lust For Life - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
GeminiLanaFan replied to Elle's topic in Post-Release Threads
I feel you, honey. I am one of the few that really love LFL. And just like you, it came out at the right time for me (ever since UV, each and every one of her albums have come out at the right time). During the HM era, my mother passed away, and the calm but sad sounds of HM were perfect for me. But after almost a year and a half of grief and sadness, I was ready to be "fully happy" again. So you can imagine the bliss and joy I had when the announcement of LFL came: a happier sound, a more universal outreach, the spacy sounds of Love... Woah. Then the pre-release period began and I became obssessed with every detail of this album. Like really overanalyzing everything and becoming impatient of every piece of info I could get. But just before LFL came out, summer happened, I was on vacation, I was about to go on a trip to Europe... and something was "missing". I wasn't as happy as I had hoped to be. And I was feeling that a new chapter of my life was about to start, one made of great change son the horizon. And then came LFL... and as I was listening to it the first time, when 13 Beaches played for the first time, I realized that it was not a happy album as we thought it would be, but an album about the chaos that happens just before a big change is about to happen in your life. Change embodies that perfectly. WTWWAW played for the first time, I cried like a baby: her voice is so touching, strong and vulnerable, and that song gave me hope, hope that I could still be strong enough to face whatever was about to come my way. After a month or so, Get Free really got to me, and I was boasting like Lana: "I wanna move out of the black into the blue". I fell back in love with this album this summer, Its sounds are so diverse and rich. True, the story is harder to get and the production on some songs isn't perfect. But with 16 songs, you can have a very subtely produced one like Change or a heavier trap-beat one like Coachella. And after HM and UV, which are masterpieces but have pretty much the same sound, we needed a diverse album like LFL. -

About the Chuck videos... I think all the videos for this era will be directed by Chuck. She mentioned the « ongoing series » at least two times on social media. This time around, Lana is working with Jack, a big-ass producer who is not available like Rick was, so she needs to have someone around her to « counterbalance » this factor (like she had a big producer for the videos of LFL era but had Rick, who is closer to her and more available for the production). And about the single in October... didn’t she say that it could possible not happen? And that it would be a more serious song, so not likely in the tone of NFR, and that maybe she wouldn’t have the time to release it properly? I think MaC and VB are the two first singles, ones that won’t probably play that much on radio but got everone’s attention, but another one, more « radio friendly », will be out in November or December. With a video by Chuck -

NFR was the title track since March. The Sylvia song, to me, doesn't officially exist since we don't have any recording of her mentioning it and it'sonly been reported by fans. Like the guy who said, after her pop-up shop last fall, that Lana had told him that Yosemite would be released within the next six months on a record because if was too beautiful. Almost a year later, it is sitll nowhere to be seen... So, call me paranoid, but I always take with a grain of salt what is not confirmed by Lana herself or major music medias. -
Well, she is «social media alive» again Kinda hate that she teases pics in the studio so much: I want more!!!!!! 2019 won't come fast enough...
