I find it a bit unfortunate that she met with Mike Dean while making BB; maybe for another project we would have had something that has more his signature than WFWF (again, not a bad song at all, but the best production of the song comes very late in the game and, well, it could have been produced by her LFL team).

After a day with A&W, here are my thoughts on it: - I was first surprised how « quiet » the first part of the song was. I expected the production to be a bit bigger (probably VB tainting my expectations of it). But I could already hear it was a incredible track, with its transitions and many subtle production elements. The piano is simply haunting. We all are « I don’t want to play with you anymore » towards BB, at the moment, but we are probably loving A&w so much already because she gave us songs like TextBook and Black Bathing Suit, which are subtlety produced but are complex in their structure. - the title could have been American Whore but A&W also makes sense, with its Americana reference but also referencing the images we collectively have of hookers in diners, between johns. - the lyrics are dark AF. It’s really not doing wonders for my seasonal depression but I don’t really care haha. But it really is a gem in her discography. She is just an incredible singer songwriter. And we are digging deeper into the « angry, wordy lyrics » of the album with this one. - fave part: the echoey transition to Jimmy / shimmy coco puff (whatever it is), where she repeats « This is the experience of being an American whore »

My only « complaint » about A&W is that the first part sounds like shit in the car. but with headphones, it’s an experience.

A&W really not what I expected… But fuck it’s good. Jimmy Jimmy Coco Puff and yeah, i think I could be right: all the songs will have some sort of sample in them!?!!

I was much like and when I first found out about the title and that it sampled Venice Bitch. But now, I can’t wait to hear how VB is sampled / extrapolated into the mix. And Kintsugi saying the outro is one for the book makes me so excited.

Thank God AppleMusic still has the « album duration » at 12 minutes, to remind us that A&W is coming this week. Everyone doubting makes me reconsider not doubting the release

I don’t understand why she doesn’t announce things this era (maybe A&W will change that), just like in BB. Are songs too personal again and she wants to let them speak for themselves? Is she p*ssed we found out about everything so far before she could post an announcement?

For the W interview, she did say there was no room for colour (in the lyrics) for this album and I wonder if it’s still true (she sure wasn’t done recording when the interview was done).

ok you got me there (never learned to spell the guy’s name TBH) There sure is a problem with Lana’s team all the time, but I don’t know whose fault it is exactly. We blame her management a lot (lol), but is it Interscope’s problem? Both?

That’s the biggest mystery. Since an early email has been sent to fans this weekend, it’s safe to assume that this merch will be sold this week… The boxset is not as certain I think 🤔

Things that make me go and in this thread every two pages: - people asking when A&W is released when it’s been said at least 400 times; - the « Harry Nielsen has a song » part or Did you know that there’s a tunnel… Used to be cute, not it’s borderline spamming. (full disclosure, im in full winter blues mode, so everything pisses me off right now, no tea no shade to anyone, but God can we give it a rest?)

Bah is it that important? I see the a&w single as the new VB: it won’t chart but will slowly gather streams over the next months. (Unless Rihanna has a new ballad out à la Black panther that everyone will forget after two hours )

On Apple Music, the length of the « album » is still 12 minutes (A&W + title track length). I don’t know how to check the scheduled date on iTunes and such

Yeah But let’s just say that miss Del Rey almost never half-ass things and often goes in a completely opposite direction after complaints let’s talk snippets here: - LFL era: lots of them but close to release and of the last songs recorded for the album. People enjoyed them a lot, don’t remember many complaints with them, other than the pre-order took so long and release date no where in sight. - NFR: lots lots lots… but nowhere close finishing the album. She wanted to let us in on her creation process, it seems. Made us think the album was way closer than it really was. Lots of complaints. - COCC: era started with TJF snips. The only other one I remember was White Dress, close to release. No details on the release of those songs or of the album. Not a lot was spoiled. Were we satisfied? Not sure - BB: title track snips a bit early for the single. Arcadia snips was a « consolation price » for the false date. After three singles and a short pre-release AND leaked tracks making it to the album, the complaints weren’t too many that we didn’t have snippets. - Ocean Blvd: Candy Necklace 10-second snips, that looks like a spur-of-the-moment. the silence is giving me: « You didn’t want to be spoiled, you won’t be » or « Go ask your damn insiders that heard the album through leaks »

I think Tuesday will end the worst part of pre-release. There might not be something big every week after A&W, but every two weeks? The title track had me fulfilled for a good month and I think the new single will do that as well. as for a third single, if there is one, I won’t be able to resist listening to it but if there isn’t one, I won’t mind.

This era feels like NFR, but (thank God) not as long a pre-release: many things will unfold in the coming weeks, but it’s very quiet after the single dropped and things will pick up again the last month before the album is out.

Hard to say because, well, we haven’t heard it yet haha But the fact that insiders love it for different reasons / songs makes me hopeful the GP will also love it. I’m having a big NFR revival these days and God it’s good!!! I love its honesty and it feels like a « coastal ride » when you listen to it from cover to cover NFR, TNBAR and Bartender are hitting hard these days (not sure why though).
