i'm sorry, but when you label yourself on your profile as the largest fan of an artist who has been accused of rape while hammering in on lana's supposedly fucked up actions, you really can't act surprised when people bring it up
-
i just don't really understand how you've made numerous posts discussing how lana's done terrible things (most of which really ARE NOT compared to what many other celebrities have done, like let's be for real) but haven't made any effort to do the same for someone who's accused of rape, no, it doesn't necessarily absolve lana of her questionable actions, but i find it hypocritical for you to be criticizing lana for ultimately minor things in the grand scheme of things when somebody you're (mostly) silent about regarding questionable actions has been accused of rape, one of the most evil things you could do to someone

her saying beat me and tell me that no one will love me better than you do doesn't automatically mean she's accepting of domestic abuse, especially since it's about HER being abused, if anything, i feel like one would be more sympathetic that she might feel that way, or be in that situation, same with he hit me and it felt like a kiss, which references a song featuring very similar lyrics to the aforementioned smarty lyrics, a song sung by a woman trying to justify somebody abusing her, if she were singing about abusing someone, it might be different, and could be indicative of who she might be like as a person, but people should be allowed to express shocking, dark, and sometimes troubling things in their art, trying to stifle that, control that, or make it some sort of moral issue just limits what people can express artistically, which i find to be a terrible thing for art, and, honestly, lana's music really isn't that dark compared to some other artists, ethel cain's first album is literally about a girl being kidnapped, prostituted, murdered, and cannibalized, does ethel cain making an entire album about that make her immoral? and if lana's wrong for singing about abuse, why should ethel cain get a pass for making an album about something so harrowing? like i said before, listeners can decide what they do or do not feel comfortable listening to, and i'm not saying people shouldn't be allowed to have opinions, or perhaps criticisms about lyrics, but i feel like there just isn't really a definitive answer as to what people should or should not say in their songs, and it's really just up to the listeners to decide what they want to listen to, the musicians creating the music and writing/singing the lyrics honestly aren't responsible for the feelings of random listeners who happen to come across their art, it's not their job to coddle or to be completely palatable for random people they don't know, if they don't want to and, also, i really don't mean to make it about you, but i just find it odd how you're sitting here talking about how lana's done so much fucked up shit, in your opinion, while openly stanning melanie martinez (your member tag is the #1 melanie martinez fan on lanaboards and you have a gif of her in your signature) someone accused of RAPE? sexually assaulting someone is 100x worse to me compared to someone making ignorant comments or marrying someone morally dubious, i just don't understand how you could look past that, right now she's literally under controversy again for a coloring book she made featuring very inappropriate depictions of children, which, again, i find to be unacceptable, and worse than questionable lyrics or ignorant statements
-
i disagree, i see nothing wrong with provocative/shocking lyrics, as long as they're done tactfully enough, it's obvious she's dealt with some bad, perhaps abusive relationships, perhaps was involved with some sort of cult, and hinted at possibly physical abuse from her mother my father never stepped in when his wife would rage at me so i feel nobody should dictate how she express her feelings regarding abuse, i do not find it immoral to talk about such heavy things like this, but i like dark, provocative art, to an extent, so that's just how i feel at the end of the day, listeners can decide what they do or do not feel comfortable listening to, but it isn't like her music is usually sunshine, puppies, and rainbows to begin with, she's said similarly provocative things in put me in a movie, ultraviolence, arguably beautiful player, and butterflies pt. 2 as a whole, not to mention all of the lolita references, and, again, i don't consider her immoral for being provocative, if anything, we can only speculate at the end of the day what she really means by what she says
-
i completely sympathize with her situation, and i wish her the best, but if she has the freedom, time, and ability to tweet and comment about it online, she has the freedom, time, and ability to actually do something productive about it like go to the police, or get a restraining order and before anyone says that going to the police won't solve anything (which i DO get, sometimes police can be unhelpful)... neither will randomly posting about it on social media
-
not putting her on a pedestal i have no problem with admitting that she's done some questionable things, and hasn't always been perfect, i just don't want to automatically label her a bad person, or someone who's siding with and protecting someone committing domestic violence, when we don't know every detail of what's going on regarding people we don't know and, regardless, somebody on her team doing something bad is NOT THE SAME as her, HERSELF, doing something bad, i do agree she's responsible for her team, to an extent, but i do not believe she directed her team to ignore particular people if they speak out on somebody they hired doing something bad, honestly, i have no idea as to why her team would be ignoring and silencing someone who's just speaking out about something they're concern about, and doesn't look good on their part, but i'm not going to just point fingers at lana for it, and like @jaesana said, maybe certain people have legal limitations as to what they can do or say
-
her team, which is comprised of individual people who have their own thoughts, beliefs, and actions, do not automatically reflect her as a person, she can't be directly responsible for everything they do, i'm sorry, but that's very unfair to her, should she be obligated to check in on and approve of absolutely everything each individual person on her team does? she hires people to work for her and has to trust to some extent that they will do the right things, but that doesn't always mean they will, because they're all individual people at the end of the day who will do what they believe to be right, and she can't be blamed for other people's wrong actions
-
deleted my other post because i found it misinformed and a bit crass, but i just think we shouldn't automatically assume lana's aware of the allegations and is supporting her bodyguard regardless, when we don't even know these people, what's going on in their personal lives, or how they feel about said occurrences NGL it sometimes feels like some people here are just eager for an opportunity to hate on lana, to have reason to criticize her, or just want any sort of drama surrounding her they can discuss and make themselves look good about, which i find quite pathetic if her bodyguard really was just some random guy who was hired from a third-party company, i really find it ridiculous to put so much blame on her when it's literally just some dude she hired, it's not like he works closely and personally with her, he likely works as a bodyguard for other people as well and is just fulfilling his role, and likely isn't too directly involve with her or her life

@revadece you've got great taste, did not expect to see birthday of bless you by inca ore mentioned at all on lanaboards -
right? obviously i don't think she should stand behind him or support him, but people are acting like she's somehow responsible for a grown man's actions which don't really have anything to do with her, everything regarding it seems to be private matters which we should've even know about anyway, her bodyguard isn't a public figure or celebrity, it's someone who works for her
-
for me, it's not about the fact that they're banning it in general and that americans won't get to use it, it's because it's so obviously it isnt' really about our data being collected, or americans being spied on, if they were so concerned about that, they would likely ban nearly every social media platform, something about it just feels so... nefarious

i feel like politicians are going to do what they want to do regardless of what people actually want, also, as much as there's plenty of people who don't agree with being trans, there's plenty who do, people usually will support politicians who match their beliefs, i really don't believe regular, everyday people should be held responsible for what politicians do, of course, society's beliefs, what they bring attention to, and what they find to be most important, will influence politicians, however, many people didn't want roe v. wade to be overturned, and most people do not believe abortion should be completely banned, but that didn't stop the supreme court from overturning roe v. wade, and that didn't stop some states from completely banning it, or heavily restricting it i just don't personally believe changing free speech, or criminalizing hate speech, which, depending on how you look at it, can be an incredibly vague term, is really a good idea, because, whether or not i agree with what certain people might say or believe, i think people should have the right to say what they believe without persecution, of course, i don't expect people who hold discriminatory, or extreme beliefs to be safe from being banned on social media platforms, or to be safe from having trouble finding work, but charging people for holding extreme, hateful beliefs just enables legal systems and governments to control what we're allowed to say or believe even more, and regardless, people are going to feel how they feel even if they aren't allowed to publicly say it, of course, we shouldn't just freely enable it and allow it to happen simply due to the fact that it's hard to control... i don't know... i explained it more in my previous post here, but i just simply don't believe people should receive criminal charges or should go to jail for saying something discriminatory, if they're threatening to hurt or kill people, then, yes, they should get into trouble for that, but that's not the same, people get in trouble for making threats even if they aren't motivated by hate or discrimination also, just another thought, but free speech isn't just about people being able to say whatever they want, even if it's hateful, it allows us to criticize our governments without persecution, it allows us to make art without much limitations, it allows people to believe in whatever religion they want (which i find extremely important), among other things

Oddly specific things that ruined a 10/10 song for you
Dark Angel replied to White Hot 4Ever's topic in Lana Thoughts
i honestly don't think any song that i've liked has been completely ruined for me? i once cried at the dentist (because of something i felt wildly insecure about at the time to the point where i believed i was deformed and needed surgery... being sixteen was fun ) while BROOKLYN BABY of all songs was playing... but it didn't ruin the song for me at all lol -
for me, i find it complicated, i honestly don't believe people should be jailed for hate speech, i do not, at all, support, or condone hate speech, i find it abhorrent, and we should do everything we can to condemn it, but i just think arresting people or charging people for it is too controlling over what people do, but at the same time, i can totally understand why it's illegal in some countries, and i don't take any issue with people believing it shouldn't be allowed i get the impression that banning hate speech could lead to other problems, what exactly do we define as hate speech? some examples would be obvious, such as saying slurs like the n-word, or the f-word, or flat-out saying you hate a particular group of people, but where does hate speech end, and where does it begin? should there be legal consequences for microaggressions? teenagers making immature jokes? saying words often targeted at women like bitch, whore, and cunt? and if it would be against the law to say you hate minorities, would it be okay to say you hate white people, straight people, men, ETC, or would that also be considered hate speech? some say it is, some say it isn't, i just feel like it could lead to issues regarding what is considered hate speech, what's worthy of legal consequences, and what's not, ETC, it would probably get even more complicated when you get into more specific issues like ageism, ableism, ETC i'm sure these aren't really issues in other countries, and if hate speech were criminalized in america, i doubt it would cause major problems in society, but i could see how it could lead to a lot of discourse and perhaps polarization about what is, or isn't allowed to be said, believed, or even thought but at the end of the day, free speech doesn't evade you of being banned off of social media platforms, losing your job, or be ostracized by the people around you for what you say, and i'm sure you could get in trouble, or have the cops called on you if you just go out to public space with people around and start screaming the n-word, because it is incredibly offensive, derogatory, and scares people idk, maybe i'm being ignorant, i just don't believe it should necessarily be criminalized for people to say bad things, i ultimately believe people should have the freedom to believe what they want, legally, but obviously it's silly to expect people to be openly derogatory and not be banned from social media platforms, which are allowed to decide what is and what isn't allowed on their platforms, many social media platforms also ban pornography or graphic violence, because most people don't want to see that, and also advertisers wouldn't like it, or to face consequences in other areas of their lives, like in their career
