    Miley Cyrus

I think it's unfair to blame to RCA for Miley's success (or lack of) the past decade. They were the ones that pushed the Bangerz era which gave Miley her biggest hit ever (thus far). Of course the music video and her personal life at the time helped make Bangerz so huge but the label did everything they had to do? I know Adore You didn't get the promo it deserved but it was following 23 which had been a moderate hit for her and also this was the beginning of the streaming age; I'm pretty sure they rush released it cos it was doing well digitally. And if I remember correctly 4x4 was gonna be pushed as a single in 2014 but everything kinda ground to a halt when Floyd passed away. Which isn't there fault or Miley's but I imagine it was Miley who just wanted to wrap up the tour and have a break. Then we have the follow up... What do you follow up one of the biggest selling albums of the year, which was #1 around the world, with 2 global #1 singles and a world tour? Miley Cyrus And Her Dead Petz - a 23 track album (which was pretty eclectic) with no mainstream single choices! Plus Miley wanted to put it out for free on SoundCloud... As a record label that's not what you'd want to fund or promote. I think they tried to give BB Talk the single treatment but at this point I think she'd lost the GP and alienated a lot of her fan base (even more so then the transition between Disney and Bangerz). I'd just like to point out that I am a fan of Dead Petz and I respect what Miley was doing as a creative and an artist and how she was the reason we are able to get mixtapes etc from mainstream pop artists now in the present day (in my opinion). Then begins the course correction in 2017, an overhaul of image and sound. I feel it was definitely Miley's idea to steer into the country-pop lane and maintain a more conservative image and I can see why the label were happy to support it considering the previous era(s). We all know RCA asked Miley to make Malibu more pop and as a "comeback" single it got Miley her first top in a few years and seemed like a good move! Obviously Younger Now the album and single didn't do as well, leaving the record label no incentive to fund more singles or a tour (which Miley said she was planning but later said wouldn't be doing due to wanting to spend time at home). But the promo was still there, Miley did a lot of late night show appearances, radio tour for Malibu, festival slots etc. Nothing Breaks Like A Heart is another example of the course correction taking place. Mark Ronson had had a lot of success with Lady Gaga and her country pop record, Joanne. It was again a way of transitioning Miley's sound subtly, maintaining the twang of the past era whilst introducing more prominent production elements. The song was a relative success and I assume at this point SHE IS MILEY CYRUS was being recorded. Now... SHE IS MILEY CYRUS. An interesting era, Miley announces that she's reuniting with her hip-hop collaborator Mike WiLL Made-It. She describes the record as a representation of all ger previous sounds as well as new ones. I'm guessing unsure of which tracks will be a success the label suggested the 3 EP rollout. The first being SHE IS COMING. Lead single, Mother's Daughter was sent to radio, we got the music video and Miley began her festival tour. She also had the benefit of being in Black Mirror and gaining promotion via her acting and singing in that series. Unfortunately Mother's Daughter didn't really do much on the charts and the fate of the other EP's was unknown. Then we have the Malibu fires and Miley losing her home, there's also things going on in her relationship with Liam at this time. She drops Slide Away as a surprise if I remember correctly? A music video did folk and we got the VMA performance. RCA did fuck up here by not sending the single to radio and therefore it came and went. Now fans spend a year in limbo waiting on a forthcoming album with no real singles or details confirmed. Here we are in 2020, lockdown for most of us. The teasers begin for Midnight Sky. This becomes her most successful release since Malibu and finally felt like the start of an album campaign. Miley did a lot of promo for the song and all in all it did the job, it was big on radio, she did a lot of performances alongside covers. It felt like this era was the one? Plastic Hearts is announced and everything seems to be going well, the critics are praising her covers, she's performing at the VMAs etc. Next up is Prisoner! On paper, a smash. Following the radio success of Midnight Sky, with one of the biggest pop stars at that time, I can see why RCA thought it would be huge. As we know, whilst it got Miley a second top 10 single from the album in the UK, it didn't do a lot anywhere else. And obviously, we all know once again that RCA fucked up with the physical copies in the US, being released on Black Friday. Meaning Miley ultimately lost out on going #1 in the US. But in terms of getting her back on top, it really did feel like the label were going in the right direction! I do agree more singles from each era could've been pushed but sometimes I think Miley was too keen to move on from that sound etc. And so we'd get half of album campaign, she has been vocal about disowning her previous records a lot!
  2. Charli XCX - Number 1 Angel as an official album release.
  3. Yeah... But it's all hypothetical hence the extra singles that never were. I love Dead Petz but it really did derail her mainstream career as a pop star. Luckily she seems to have reclaimed it over the last few years!
  4. A potential post-Disney greatest hits album for Miley Cyrus. Complete with full single campaigns for each era.
  5. I think this tracklist makes a real cohesive album that captures the spirit of the 70's as well as modern times both politically and sonically. With that hazy summer / free spirit vibe that flows throughout. 01. Love 02. Lust For Life (ft. The Weeknd) 03. Cherry 04. Groupie Love (ft. A$AP Rocky) 05. Coachella - Woodstock In My Mind 06. God Bless America - And All The Beautiful Women In It 07. Tomorrow Never Came (ft. Sean Ono Lennon) 08. Yosemite 09. When The World Was At War We Kept Dancing 10. Heroin 11. Change 12. Beautiful People, Beautiful Problems (ft. Stevie Nicks) 13. Get Free
  6. I imagine the songs that were on the 2016 version were: 13 Beaches Best American Record (demo) Cherry Heroin Malibu Lust For Life (demo) Tomorrow Never Came (demo) Yosemite Young And In Love I think the record then started to shift into a more political direction with songs like God Bless America, WTWWAWWKD being recorded? I imagine it's around this time we got Beautiful People (LFL version) starting to form. There are some other political songs that we know exist that potentially were recorded around this time too. It's at this point I feel like Stevie and Sean were added to the album as features? As well as Get Free being finalised. Then I imagine Lust For Life (solo final), So Good and Groupie Love (demo) came around at a similar time? Lana was starting to bring in hip hop elements to the record, which had previously been described as witchy / folky. Maybe also the start of her including hip-hop artists? The Weeknd and A$AP Rocky. There's also a 3rd A$AP collab that was scrapped that could be from around this time. Summer Bummer (with A$AP), White Mustang and In My Feelings feel like last minute additions. Dipping into that trap sound whilst referencing the G Eazy breakup. Also adding Playboi Carti to Summer Bummer. We know Coachella and Change were both recorded quite late into the album process (after title announcement and Love release). Change being the last song recorded? This is all speculation but who knows.
  7. I'm thinking maybe Monday with an official tracklist reveal? Like an actual post that doesn't get removed haha. I'd happily take a buzz single next week too to coincide with the merch drop...
  8. Especially if it's of the quality of the Ultraviolence box set, I'm thinking that unfortunately the box itself will just be white with the album text on, embossed or glossy (like the Ultraviolence box). Then the LP with the exclusive artwork which is the real collector's item here alongside 4-6 of Neil's glamour shots. The wave / flower imagery used to decorate the interior lining of the box. Unknown if a CD copy will be included?
  9. Chemtrails Over The Country Club (CD Box Set) - £45.00 Lust For Life (CD Box Set) - £39.99 Honeymoon (CD Box Set) - £31.99 Ultraviolence (LP + CD Box Set) - £45.99 Born To Die: Paradise Edition (3CD + DVD Box Set) - £79.99 I'm going to say if it includes the LP we're gonna be looking at maybe £85.00?
  10. So I'm pretty sure the merch is gonna be an album cover tee, LDR Zippo, LDR coke necklace, keychain and postcards. The boxset will include CD (card sleeve), Exclusive 2LP (explicit cover) and lithograph prints.
  11. Poor Ellie Goulding, the same label just moved her album to March 24th after RAYE's success with Escapism and fear of Ellie not getting the #1 album.

    Taylor Swift

I really wish she put more care into her single choices, picking songs that show off her artistry rather than the "glittery gel pen" songs that seem like attempts at quick #1's. Here are my ideal single choices from her pop era's (songs that are still radio friendly but represent the album too). 1989 reputation Lover folklore evermore Fearless (Taylor's Version) Red (Taylor's Version) Midnights

    Charli XCX

This is my version of CRASH and I won't be changing it
  14. A potential updated greatest hits album for Britney Spears following the success of Hold Me Closer and Glory 2020. Standard Edition: Deluxe Edition:
  15. So I imagine the only songs that might make the album (assuming it exists) would be: 01. All My Lovers Die 02. Descending 03. Don't Forget 04. Hands All Over Me 05. Innocent Kind 06. Last Of The Famous International Playboys 07. Masochism 08. Voices Carry (studio cover?)
  16. This really feels like the third evolution of her mainstream career and I'm excited! Phase 1: Phase 2: Phase 3:
  17. Anybody wanna take one for the team and update the Tropico - Ultraviolence timeline?
  18. I see Cruel World listed as late 2013? I thought that and Pretty When You Cry were both created with Dan (no previous demo?), so wouldn't it be early 2014? Also, wasn't Beautiful People (demo) from the Ultraviolence era?

    Miley Cyrus

Somebody has found a code or something on her official store which shows a CD box set that will be up for pre-order soon. Confirming title and release date. I don't have a link but it was on PopJustice Forums
  20. Judging by that Tropico tracklist at least several? Unless somebody can try confirm the song titled and whether they are original songs or alternative titled for songs we already have...

    Miley Cyrus

So the album is titled Endless Summer Vacation and released on March 10th allegedly
  22. I agree, I also include Flipside and Is This Happiness
  23. 01. Old Money 02. Black Beauty 03. 04. Lake Placid 05. Summer Wine (?) 06. 07. I Talk To Jesus 08. Elvis 09. Easy Rider (Guns & Roses demo?) 10. 11. 12. 13.
  24. I think Lana always envisioned Ultraviolence as just the 11 track album? From what I remember wasn't she really against the deluxe edition, hence why it was the last album of hers to get bonus tracks. Black Beauty was clearly popular with the record label and Lana had maybe moved on from that song (especially cos it had leaked) but the label liked it. Florida Kilos maybe was still intended to feature in a movie at the time of release and perhaps the label wanted to cash in by including it? But also I remember reading somewhere that it was one of her dad's favourite songs she'd recorded at the time. Part of me feels like she didn't have much say in the bonus tracks? As I'm sure she would have put songs like Living Legend etc on there since she clearly still values those tracks...
