I watched all of S5 but none of S6.  I don't even know why tbh... I liked most of it (and LOVED Rich's episode) but I guess I never really managed to relate to the characters as much as I did during gens 1 & 2. I never felt, idk, 'emotionally attached' (for lack of a better expression) to any of them the same way I did to Cassie, Effy or Cook, for instance.

Did you watch it? What did you think of it, in general? In your opinion how does it compare to the other 2 gens?
Please try not to spoil me though, I will watch it eventually...

If her boyfriends were older gangsters I find it pretty normal that her mother didn't like them.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this. We're on a forum. We DISCUSS THINGS. I happen to think it makes the forum a far more interesting place to frequent as opposed to only talking about music releases and photos and appearances and tours.

I think her feet are disgusting, they're huge. I think that about her hands too, they're gross. It's like her hands are bigger than her head.
The first times I saw her, I thought she was really ugly. I didn't even watch her video clips because I found her unpleasing to watch. She was a weird Nicole Kidman look-a-like, I thought her lips make her look stupid. Only her voice attracted me at first.
Now I think she's so beautiful, charismatic, and I love her lips even when they look weird it makes every picture interesting.
I also saw Lana Del Rey in La Boite à Questions (it's very popular in France) before listening to her music and by the way she was answering to the questions I thought she looked sooo stupid.
The second time she went to the Grand Journal, after saying "blablabla love Paris France I feel home here blablabla" she was asked if she knows some words in French ... she couldn't even find a single fucking one. Rude.
I don't believe that she lived in a trailer park though I did before. It disappoints me tbh, it's extremely disrespectful to pretend being poor just to seem more interesting when your dad's a millionaire and you have no idea what it is to have no money.

I don't like Young&Beautiful (it's ok to listen to it like 5 seconds, that's it) and just her new stuff. I think Burning Desire and Blue Velvet (though she sounds great in it) have no soul and are too commercial. Her Born to Die era was perfect to me, it was the perfect mix of everything I kinda always wanted to hear (the "epic" feeling, Nabokov references, Bonnie and Clyde stuff, ...).

Lana didn't understand at all Lolita by Nabokov. To me, it's a story about the power of words and how you have to dig yourself and look beyond what the narrator tells you not being all "omg luv story".

But the fanmade videos are great.
You're right about how far the show went. It was cleverly done, it could have been easily gross and disgusting. I'm pretty sure that those incestuous feelings between siblings might happen more often than we think it does but it doesn't mean they become a couple.
I also think this incestuous feelings were there because they didn't know how to love someone else. I mean, come on, they are much more like twins than the Fitches. Effy's basically a female Tony.
I'd like to find a movie dealing with incest the way it was done with the Stonems. I watched the Dreamers and ... just no.

I see it tbh. And Skins writers would.

The fanmade videos are more manipulative than anything, as they include completely unrelated and/or decontextualized stuff just because it fits the narrative, but the Beth/Effy thing is too obvious to not be intentional. I mean, she was literally the girl of his dreams, the one he picked to guide him out of his troubles and doubts and erectile disfunction, and she had the same name as his sister, looked and dressed similarly & even acted a fair bit like her.

What was always obvious to me is that she was the only person in the world he considered his equal and truly respected, and the same happened with Effy re: Tony. So it's not hard to imagine (especially given the whole dream sequence episode) that, had she not been his sister, he would've easily fallen in love with her / wanted to be with her. I don't think it ever went beyond this though, it was never more than platonic imo.

I kinda disagree with what you said about Skins not having been brave enough to face it though; I think they did (through his dream + her mental health issues). Maybe not in a super obvious, 'foolproof' way, but it could've easily become crass and distasteful had they done it any other way imo. I also think there wasn't much else to face or do with that theme; it was something that existed and would probably never completely disappear for as long as they lived, but each of them dealt with it in a more or less conscious way (dream + therapy) & tried to move on.

@@elllipsis  Yes I'm talking about Tony and Effy.
There are so many subtext ... Like in Tony's episode in season 2, the girl is called Beth (->Elizabeth->Effy) and she wears the same underwear as Effy.
This unseen is pretty clear imo : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDEQSt0FPwQ
They looked each other in a way siblings don't ... In the very first scene I though that Effy was his girlfriend ! (and I know a lot of people did)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDE2zd-QiaQ
I always felt there was something going on between them but I just couldn't put the finger on it.
I wish Skins would have been brave enough to face it.

Tony's episode was basically a huge dream and the solution to his erectile problem was not viagra.

Do you even know what countries in the Asian continent?? Lana was playing in the radio in  Malasia just like Gaga...oh god open up?? I cant.  In Japan, Israel, Singapure,Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Maldives, India, South Korea, Indonesia and several other countries you can buy and download an album. That is why they are a big market for ALBUM SALES. The internet after the 2000 changed everything. Or you think every country in the asian continent is close or have being close like China and Pakistan?? Even China is open to certain type of international artists...

ps:: guess what half of the population in the planet use to pic up their food from the plate and put the food in their mouths?? Is not a fork...

Britney has 2 things Gaga will never have which is sympathy and charisma. She has sympathy because of everything she went through. Look at Britney she looks like a kid I honestly I feel bad for even making fun of her funny faces in the judge panel. And Britney has charisma. You cant teach, learn or give charisma to someone is there or is not. Gaga can have as many singles, albuns and grammies as she wants. The thing is the public will forever care about Britney because they actually like HER. The fact that she is a judge in a SINGING contest after all she went through proves what I am saying after all she is not a Mariah is she? Voice speaking I mean. That is the thing with people who have lots of charisma they get a easier ride and longevity because people care about them not only the work they do/ or have done. Look at Cheryl Cole. The brits have so many great bands, so many amazing voices and they also have Cheryl, the sweet heart. She does playback, has make several lipsync mistakes but they dont really mind. They llike her and also have sympathy for her. I like both Britney and Cheryl and I never bought a single album of neither. Listen to them on the radio and in parties but I like them quite a lot. Gaga doesnt have that and wont have it. And the irony is that I bought The Fame and is a good album that I listen for a while but not anymore. I just can't see Gaga having longevity with the way she behaves and the way that her songs/lyrics got so pour.  And understand I am not talking about fans I am talking about the general public who turns the tv and see those people there or listen to a song in the radio or in a friends car. I am talking about the charisma that goes outside your fan base. Is a difficult thing to explain the famous X factor. Britney has that. Not the most talented, not even close the best voices but for sure one of the most charismatics public figures out there.

That Bonnie & Clyde episode was perfection. Except for the ending, of course.

I'm convinced that the reason they were paired as the main ~romantic couple is simply that they were the most conventionally attractive of the bunch. Also the reason why they have so many shippers imo. Because lbr, they had no substance whatsoever.

I liked Freddie & his own story, I thought he was a very relatable character; he ended up as my least fave character of that gen though, and only because of his relationship with Effy. It was incredibly contrived and made no sense; like, completely out of the blue these 2 people are suddendly madly in love with eachother?! Like you said, their relationship was never developed; they were just paired together & all of a sudden we were supposed to buy their mad, neverending love.

I'll never forgive the writers for fucking up Effy/Cook the way they did. They had such great dynamic as a couple and, for instance, it would have been really interesting to see Effy deal with her mental health issues with someone like Cook by her side, imo. Idk, I just think their relationship had a lot of dramatic potential but that was completely disregarded for the sake of, what, a prettier pairing?
