  1. Freak, MTWBT, HBTB, Art Deco, Blackest Day, Swan Song, and Religion are my picks. Not into the slower stuff. It feels like some of this stuff might have been the results of writing for films between HM and UV. It'll be interesting to see how the reception will be to it.
  2. Hard to hear the beats and everything's pretty slow. I skimmed a bit around but I'm gonna hold off until I can hear a better version of it. I'll remain optimistic but I'm wary. If anything, I credit Lana for churning an album out so quickly. Anymore, it feels like an eternity between albums for most bands that I like.
  3. Art Deco is obviously a compliment. Shame to hear that one is slow as well. Still listening to the Freak sample a lot; I like the saxophone over the beat.
  4. Lana has always wanted flutes in her songs and she finally got them!
  5. I'm surprised her guitar player isn't listed as much in this album. He was a big part of UV I feel, as much credit is given to Dan Auerbach. This seems mostly her, Rick, and his protege. I felt that sound was part of something her guitar player brought into the UV-fold.
  6. I hope all the songs aren't drenched in strings like so far. Art Deco has a lot of synths listed in the credits so maybe it'll be upbeat.
  7. Liking the idea of a mellotron heavy album. Also saxophone on Freak, even more anticipation....
  8. People can have an opinion. I think discussion about it is better than a bunch of pages of people saying how great it is. Some of the best music songs/albums are the ones you don't really feel at first and you spend some time with them. It takes time.
  9. I feel a bit disappointed once it kicked in. I expected something different from the Honeymoon Sampler video the other day. It just goes into a tepid extension of Sad Girl. The pre-choruses are interesting. I like the chorus a lot but it comes in awkward sometimes. The bridge kind of loses me, but I like the main bits of everything overall. I like it, I know I sound really critical. HBTB>freak (snippet, high hopes)>MTWBT>HM>TLY
  10. Terrence bored me but these other two definitely have potential. I'm excited!
  11. Both MTWBT and Freak sound so promising. Can't Wait. Hopefully something more upbeat still awaits.
  12. I don't think it will be a concept album either. Interludes don't mean anything in that regard. I also hate how there's also this loose labeling of Lana's albums as concept albums already. There's some loose continuity and themes with the tracking, as most album do, but it's not a concept album at all.
  13. These slow songs are so boring. I liked HBTB better but still not great. It feels like she was written off with BTD, then UV gave her cred amongst critics, and the film people love her for soundtracks. It just feels too many of these long cinematic slow songs -- which have their place -- but it's too much. An album of this shit is going to be rough to listen fully through, just like UV kind of was. Now she's going even more in that direction. The production overall so far feels like it's trying to cling to UV a bit, seemingly to kowtow to critics, who also like the film stuff she does. I just hope for something more upbeat even it's shrouded in this LanaReverbâ„¢ sound.
  14. I can't believe this setlist. If these three old-new ones make it on HM, it makes some sense, they all have a similar sound. I'm surprised she didn't change any of them, especially YCBTB given how it was nearly a promo single for BTD. I'm excited, three of my favorites, never would have thought they'd resurface. The stage design is great. Really knocks the UV tour stuff out of the water.
  15. She looks a lot like her mother in those pics.
  16. I liked Barrie. Seemed real together.
  17. Most of these bands are pretty well-known in the indie scene. A lot have been around for well over 10 years and are huge names (Spoon, New Pornographers, Modest Mouse, Jenny Lewis, Hot Chip, Decemberists, etc.) You're really missing out if you haven't gave some of these artists a listen. Father John Misty opened for Lana. Robert Plant played in a little band called Led Zeppelin... I think I only don't recognize 2 or 3 artists from the OP. A lot of unknowns at the bottom of the poster though, but that's how festivals are.
  18. Good. I like BTD better and maybe we'll see some of those backcatalog tracks resurface. There's a lot of unreleased stuff that feels very noirish. I hope we get something a bit more poppy like BTD over Paradise. I can appreciate Paradise and these recent soundtrack songs but I don't really listen to them much at all.
  19. I think I like the demo of Black Beauty better. It's a great song and doesn't have her lyrical flubs that a lot of UV has. The added tracks to the song seem okay, but I think it's more powerful without it. Plus with Sad Girl, which uses the sudden return to the ending minor chord to great effect, it pales in comparison.
  20. I guess. I don't see it as too low. It seems the Italians on the board have hinted that he's been born with the silver spoon in his mouth. I personally hate that but it's part of the world so whatever. Despite the talk, Lana paid her dues. I'm sure he's a decent guy. That makes it sound like fans have the approve of it or something which is a really fucking dumb. They would know more than me, but that seems like an a better perspective than my own ignorant one. But it's an admitted ignorant one, which I think most of us have really. He's new, so I guess we don't know much about him. I honestly don't care much either way. I mildly liked Barrie I guess and it seems like he left his band for Lana and that Nightmare Boy stuff isn't really going to be big. So I get the feeling that he's going to suffer a bit aside from the psychological shit with any breakup.
  21. Barrie has recorded sessions with her, doesn't he? I'm sure maybe he still plans to use the collaboration. Maybe that's what he meant by not over. Not really going out but not out of each others' lives completely. I liked Barrie This new guy is attractive but seems boring and generic really.
  22. I haven't listened to UV that much. I don't mind a lot of the songs but they kind of dive into very familiar-sounding parts. Nothing egregious ripped off but there are phrases throughout that seem affected. Sad Girl (bridge sucks and it's an example of what I mean), WC, SoC, Black Beauty, MPG, and FMUTTP are the only ones I occasionally come back to, with Sad Girl probably being the most. :-\
  23. I love the Beach Boys and even Brian's solo Smile version, but I think this is going to be boring. Lana would really work well with the Beach Boy surf-and-harmony sound, but it looks like this album is mostly about the guest artists bring their style into it.
  24. West Coast, Sad Girl, Money Power Glory, Fucked My Way Up To The Top, Black Beauty. A lot of it's really miss for me.
  25. Black Beauty is great and maybe it's because it's not DA-produced. I'm going to get dismissed as someone who "can't handle the challenge of this era", but I think too many of the DA songs meander aimlessly and while interesting on the surface, they get old fast. I don't think I can make it through the entire album because it just jumbles together too much. I agree with being underwhelmed by the lyrics too. All the songs on their own are fine, but this isn't an album I can listen straight through like BTD. I really hope we hear how some of these songs went with other producers. I don't think the mixing is that great and it's not just Lana being mixed too low sometimes either. Then again, I will listen and it will undoubtedly all grow on me. But I do think there's going to be talk about the production when it's released and it's not going to be all glowing just because the Black Keys guy did it.
