I think I she sounded so  much more passionate and genuine in the live version especially with the line ' I would do anything for you'  that realness is what made it so haunting  for me - but this version is still beautiful

I really can't get into Black Beauty and  I am  really hoping the production is very different for ultraviolence

She did say in one interview "I'm usually always singing about the same goddamn person, so... I'll love him forever, but you know, it's all good... it's all good..."

So I think she was talking about Jimmy Gnecco since so many songs are usually thought to be about him.

I kinda posted something similar in the Lanalysis thread but, I really think Jim has to be a person not really a metaphor. The name is through the whole song I don't know if say Jim Beam could be that important that it taught her, lifted her, was beside her. I mean of course it's possible but, the emotional attachment to the name just seems too human to be to be something like that. Jim Morrison maybe but, from what I hear she dated a Jim correct? And there's also another person in her life she refered to as Jim once.

Also she says "Jim taught me that he hit me and it felt like a kiss" this sounds like someone she's known for a long time "Jim brought me back, reminded me of when we were kids" futher supports this hypothesis. I don't know too much about Lana's past but, whoever this is she must have known or, at least it was someone that was very important to her. It sounds like someone who taught her many things and above all things love, and perhaps obsession. It really sounds like she's obsessed with this toxic relationship she has. She also says I would do anything for you babe. She doesn't care that he wasn't good to her she just loved him to death. She probably still does considering this song.

Also it sounds like she was toxic to him as well (I said this before but, it's important) I mean you don't really call someone who's nice to you deadly nightshade or poison ivy obviously she wasn't any good for him either. There's more than just physical abuse of course. There could have been many different reasons.

I know it's really demented but, when I hear "Jim raised me up, he hit me and it felt like true love" it literally to me sounds like she's being picked up off the ground or grabbed something of that sort. The fact that she says he hit me and it felt like true love is because, she doesn't really care what he does as long as he's there with her she's so madly in love with him that she'll take on anything to have him. That's "Ultraviolence".

She also said that this album is autobiographic. Is...that a word? Whatever, anyway I really don't think the focal point of the song his name is in it too often, is just a metaphor or a ficade.

This is just how I personally view the song though. I hope one day she really explains it in detail.

I don't see why Lana would need to change the name. We all know that anything she says/sings sounds like silk so even if the person was someone named Greg or Allen whatever, she would make it work with the song. It is interesting though that she could have just said "he" taught me that rather than a name but, it wouldn't tell as much of a story.

Ultraviolence is obviously about a toxic relationship that both people are addicted to. Because, while Jim seems to be abusive it sounds like she was no better saying lines such as "He used to call me DN, that stood for deathly night shade" doesn't really paint a picture of someone who's nice. Obviously they're both crazy for eachother in the worst way. This song is seriously dark just like she promised. She literally wants to run back to him she can't keep that feeling away she wants it back she wants the Ultraviolence. The crazy toxic life they had together. It's almost like a drug that kind of feeling.

That's just what I think of the song though personally.

I posted this in the "is this happiness" thread but im gonna post it here.
I think west coast is about 2 people, probs barry and then Jimmy in the chorus. SOC I have no idea. Does Barry have a Malibu?

IMO Ultraviolence, the phrase, is about an abusive/agresive relationship with Jimmy. And she loves it, even if she isnt with him anymore and she always will love him. From HBD, which is obvs about jimmy, "I like your ultra-violent swing, I like it when you treat me mean" and then from west coast "I can see my baby swingin" and then from Ultraviolence (song),  "He hit me and it felt like a kiss/he hurt me but it felt like true love"

Is the Jim she's talking about Jimmy Gnecco? Or someone else? I think Jimmy may be K. Cause of the line "I can hear the sirens". in Ultraviolence  And I think K is Cuban.
  12. redrose liked a post in a topic by Bae in LANALYSIS: Relating Songs To Known/Assumed Relationships
I have a theory that Jim is K. Like the line "I can hear the sirens" is when he got arrested.
If he's not K, then he's definitely not Gnecco IMO.   because mentioning actual people is a bit invasive. Like she would basically be telling the world the Jimmy Gnecco is an abusive fuck tard and I don't think she'd say something that personal about someone else.
"Jimmy Gnecco is my cult leader whom I will love forever and he hits me but he taught me true love.  O yeah, but  I'm with barrie RN, lel" Unless she and Barrie breakup and she ends up with Gnecco then yeah, the song is defiantly about him.

I have to say though, Lana's and Jimmy relationship rn is weird. Like him opening for her concert, he wrote songs about her. At her concert he said "Me and Lana go way back" or something like that.
  13. redrose liked a post in a topic by trayertrash in Petition for Lana to make a Track by Track video for Ultraviolence
If she does, it shouldn't be like what Beyonce did with releasing everything at once, I think it would be a lot more thrilling if it were a new video every few weeks/months until the UV era is over.

UV is more than being ultraviolent.
At the beginning, Lana introduces us to her dark past. She was filled with poison like drugs and alcohol.

Nevertheless, Jim liked her ("blessed with beauty"). Him hitting her might be a metaphor of him bringing her back to life ("Jim brought me back"). "And it felt like a kiss" shows she was not used to reality since she had been loathing it with drugs.
Lana experiences a collision of reality and fiction and this feels like extreme violence to her ("I can hear sirens"; "This is Ultraviolence").

"Jim raised me up" refers to him showing her her beauty and the beauty of the world.

Jim's effort of distractig her from drugs failed. She wants to go back, back to drugs when everything was simple. "Crying tears of gold, like Adam and Eve" displays her prediction. She is aware of her going back to her habits.
The last part fulfils her prophecy: Lana says good-bye with heartbreaking words.

I think Lana's live performance might be better than the studio version unless my headphones are messing with the sound.
