I do believe the French have already compared LDR to Chris Isaak with some admiration. What I find amazing about this newer comment is this: If Chris Isaak was heavily criticized as an anti-feminist menace, then Kim Gordon's comment could make sense. However, if Chris Isaak was never so criticized, then her remark is amazingly anti-feminist in the sense that it suggests males can do anti-feminist things with impunity that females can't. BTW, what I think she's referring to is CI's tendency to obsess or submit to a lover in some of his songs (e.g. songs like "Livin for you Lover", "Wicked Game"). Finally, I get the impression Kim is digging herself into a deeper hole (and that LDR shouldn't reply for that reason).

lana's mere existence gives me hope in humanity. but her prominence in society has also made me really cynical about the way many (if not most) people think

like honestly it went from 'soulless whore with a rich daddy' (2012) ---> 'calculating she-demon lacking in any true personality' (2015)

people will always find some kind of false justification just to make themselves feel more whole

and kim gordon is undeniably talented, which makes this particularly depressing

The way Kim comes for Lana is a little bit personal. Sounds like the problem rests with her, taking the Ride video 100% literally, wishing Lana would kill herself, whining about the fact that Lana isn't interested in carrying the burden of always being a feminist role model.

Lana built her own career, writes her own music, has a mind of her own, and never tries to pretend she is perfect. Sounds like a pretty strong woman to me.  She's open about her fantasies and honest - to a fault - about the things she feels. I bet if someone were to open up Kim's brain and find all of the secrets she's harbored in there, we could make plenty of comments about Kim's relationship with feminism or her own private fantasies/thoughts.

Her commenting safely from the pages of a memoir on someone else, seemingly for no reason other than to make an example of someone, well... like I said, sounds like she's got the problem, not Lana. Sorry if Lana makes you uncomfortable but hey, you slammed a very popular artist to make yourself (and your book) find some rumblings of attention, so congratulations but I see right through it.

    So... Wow...

I just read through 90% of this thread and....

I gotta say I'm really kind of overwhelmed, shocked and ultimately disappointed by so many of the comments I see here. It would seem that a large majority of the fans here really don't give a fuck about the content or concept of Lana's music as long as we "get a new look for the era" or she stops doing "boring jazz" (which is an oxymoron) or she stops wearing "jeans and tshirts" or starts "using makeup." Again and again the comments here read like a tug of war with everyone pulling her in all different directions. This is one of the first times I have ever truly hoped she does not ever read this forum. There used to be a lot of constructive, thought out criticism here from people who had a wealth of knowledge about music- from genre specialties to music history- and could discuss Lana's work in an interesting way. People could really discuss the cultural significance of what she was doing or dissect her lyrics. This is all just like... "stan" vomit. And if Lana were to ever read through this... Wow... I can't imagine. I would be SO uninspired to see what my fans were discussing and valuing about my art. It's not that there is criticism- I have read thoughtful critiques on her work here before that I wish Lana could/would read because I think they would inspire her so much. However, so many of the comments here miss the mark completely on what is important. She is an ARTIST. Allow an artistic process to HAPPEN. She is not your barbie doll to dress up and style. She is a person who is trying to communicate her soul through a difficult business called the Music Industry that has become LESS and LESS about the actual music.

Do you guys see how so many of us have been conditioned to value the PACKAGE over the PRODUCT in this industry? They are destroying our minds and our ability to appreciate diversity and art in the music world. By us placing so much emphasis on how she looks, we keep perpetuating the kind of business models that starved funding our of Ultraviolence. Labels send interns onto forums like this to get a read on what the fan bases are looking for, what they want. The music industry has taught you to care more about Lana's hair than her words, so now when a label lackey comes on here to read through this garbage, what they will report back to their bosses is "They want a pretty girl, the music seems so secondary." This means, ultimately, more label control. The label could pressure Lana into a package she isn't comfortable with and as a result, we get a less authentic and self-expressing artist.

This is all hypothetical, but this is how things happen. Consumers of art need to seriously take more responsibility when using their voice.

I can't imagine how I would feel if I read through pages and pages of comments that missed the point of what I do completely. I would be completely devastated and hollow.

(Not to say that EVERY post was like this, but I'm just highlighting a few that really stuck with me. Come on guys, we can do better than this. And I'm not even saying Lana's look isn't important to some degree- as she has often used it as an extension of expression of the music. But come on, some of these comments... We are smarter than that and we care about Lana's authentic expression more than that... right?)

It doesn't matter whose name was put in the song - it's disgusting any way. He is glorifying domestic violence and essentially making a mockery of the pain the Janae Rice has experienced personally. It's not a "joke."

I don't know if you're serious or not... but Lana singing about *wanting* a guy to hit her sexually isn't the same as getting punched twice in public and getting knocked unconscious.

And there ain't no way she couldn't be hurt or offended by that line lol. Imagine someone who you've loved so long dissing you by saying he'd punch the shit out of you. Smh.

Having a reputation as being a misogynist and then acting like a misogynist isn't really playing off anything. I'm glad that someone's standing up for the poor guys who get in trouble for belting women, though. It must be rough only being able to hit someone big enough to fight back.

[Edit: I'm accusing Eminem of doing this, not evilentity]

Er, I don't think people are being ungrateful for expecting a music artist to promote her...music.
  19. GirlAfraid liked a post in a topic by evilentity in UV abandoned?
Nobody owes Lana their gratitude, but neither does Lana owe her fans anything.* You can either like her music or not, buy her music or don't. Buying her music or paying to see her in concert or being her fan doesn't entitle you to anything other than just that. Some of you sound like spoiled little children demanding a shiny new toy to play with, which if given one, will summarily toss it aside and demand another shrubbery shiny new toy.

I feel stupid and contagious. Here we are now, entertain us.

*The one obvious major caveat to this is when she fails to live up to her actual obligations (i.e. canceling contractual obligations like concert dates for what appear to be increasingly suspect reasons).

I love how some people put themselves in a position of peasants making look like Lana is doing as a favor for making music or touring. LOL

Lana is a singer, she writes and sings. That's the profession she chose for herself and touring and promoting comes with it. Expectation comes with success which Lana had and has, so she's doing me no favor, she's doing herself a favor for being good at what she chose to do with her life

It's strange, cause I have actually never thought of her as being lazy in the sense that she is not driven or does not want to execute the visuals and everything regards to how her material is presented.

I doubt that she doesn't care like she said recently. I doubt that she is not driven to write and record. Everything is a speculation right now, but I assume that her labels reaction and how it was mishandled really took away the joy she had for making this album. The BTD era seemed to have one of the biggest budgets I have seen for a new artist when it comes to videos and exposure.
And let's confess: we have all loved it.
That this era didn't even have like 10 % of it, must have srsly disappointed her.

While the critics have warmed up to Lana, the music buying public didn't appreciate the album in the way everybody hoped for (well before the material was heard). And let's not talk about the interviews. That Guardian interview and the cancellation of the BBC promo killed her career in the UK. It took her 5 months to outsell the first week sales of BTD.

Nobody can tell me that she is fine now. She always struck me as an artist who is determined and by no means fragile. I just hope that she gets the joy back of being a popstar.
And I want her to be successful. I know, what a terrible fan I am wishing my favourite artist to be successful and outselling the basic bitches.

    I really agree with @@Viva !

Imo Lana always strived for fame, beauty and becoming an icon like Marilyn or Elvis but she never really realized that there were unpleasant reasons why Elvis, for example, took a lot of pills. You're under huge pressure in this business and you have to work hard to receive worldwide popularity. I think Lana was sure that loving music, writing good songs and expressing your beliefs in form of music videos was enough to gain that fame she wished for. She isn't a big fan of interviews, TV appearances and lenghty touring but this is a significant factor that leads to massive album sales or wide-spread recognition. I don't want to say that Taylor's fanbase isn't HUGE and I'm sure she could pull a Beyoncé without any problems, but the main reason why 600,000 people bought 1989 in its release day is that she updates her fans daily on social media and visits as many TV shows as possible, she absolutely builds up excitement for her stuff.
Lana wasn't born to do so and I respect that but if she wants to be successful she should fucking stop cancelling almost everything (which isn't that much anyways) ! Although Interscope might not be quite supportive, these cancellations aren't their fault. Maybe they don't give her enough money but Lana knows how to create homemade videos, so she could've definitely came up with a better idea for the UV video.

      I'm a lazy girl, I'm a lazy girl, I'm a laaaaaaaaazy girl

We all know she wanted Cola to be a single but her record company was being a bitch thinking it would be too controversial. Of course controversy is what sells but Interscope is too dumb to see that. Cola still managed to have quite an impact especially on many teenage tumblr cunts. It still could've been so much more, the same goes for Gods & Monsters, which in my opinion was a really strong contender for a single release.

I think the problem with this era is that instead of focussing on promotion for this album she was forced to finish the previous tour and it dragged on for too long so she really didn't get a chance at doing TV performances and all of that shit. It's sad, because you know it could've been quite a commercial success if they paid more attention to timing (single releases) and releasing the right singles too. I mean, Brooklyn Baby could've been the perfect summer single and I'm 100% sure it would've charted really well if Lana did one or two live performances.
