I feel like all the three songs I've heard are about the same thing and it's really boring to me. I'm aware a lot of BTD was about love too, but it was lyrically deeper and I was a newer fan back then anyway, if she never had AKA/the unreleased tracks I would've gotten over it with btd alone. I want to hear more songs in the same vein as Ride, Carmen, Disco, Jump, Bad Disease etc - she really has the capability to explore such deep subjects, I'd hate if she was forever stuck on 'I really love that guy man, I really do' . I guess it just got to me because all I heard on Ultraviolence so far was this, it's not like I mind her love songs or anything - a lot of my favorites are technically love songs but also more lyrically complex. I'm sure she'll have all types of songs on UV tho

I just listened to it now   it's ok but kinda immature. I wouldn't conceive Gaga fans not getting worked up over this (well, some of them) but it's so silly I can't take it seriously. Lana's quite the crazy bitch. But I love her

We..Generally don't. A lot of people hear about her degree and think she knows something about astrophysics or something I think.

Tbh I thought Fordham would have a much different sort of metaphysics program.. but wasn't she a philosophy major who concentrated in metaphysics? So there was a lot more "what if" than "what is" if you know what I mean.

Girl whatever narrative this album may have makes no sense but do you

She sounds depressed, hope she'll talk to a therapist or something rather than sink in ~artistic misery~ . I'm grateful for the music and the beautiful lyrics, but it's annoying that she glamorizes wrong things so much. There's nothing glamorous about cheating, although with her amount of respect for [other] women I'm not even surprised.

She's obviously very depressed. I'm not surprised, but it's still sad. I hope she's seeing someone

I really like this interview. She comes off very well in it compared to some other recent interviews. It's nice to see that in a widely read venue like the NYT. But holy shit is she on a major media push right now.

The print version of this article comes out June 15, six days before she turns 29. So they got it right.

    You and me both, kid.

Although I'm not sure I'd agree she's not a bit of a dilettante sometimes, it's nice to see a respected paper like the NYT say that much of the criticism of her was inaccurate. And it's nice to see her let the writer say that for her and not complain about it much or add to the inaccuracies herself.

I'll give the author a pass on the "studying metaphysics" part-- her major was philosophy, but it's possible she focused on metaphysics-- but the album title was just "Lana Del Ray". He even got the wrong title reversed. I'm not sure how he screwed this up. Even Wikipedia has this right now.

@@SitarHero Frame it. A perfect tagline for Lanalysis if there ever was one.

This specifically mentions New York City, which fits the theory it's about Atlantic Group. But I find the word "guru" interesting. Translations of some of the other interviews where she talked about this used that word, but I was curious to see if that word would show up in an English language interview. I'll post more of my thoughts about that later.

You guys are animals.   It's no wonder she wears those extensions.

    dat maha maha tease

i really enjoyed this interview though. aside from it being well written imo, the conversation seems interesting. That bit about her relationship with icons kind of explains to me why she's so involved and kind to her fans~

"Wearing a blue mini-dress and clear sandals that revealed toenails painted a pearly peach, she sat on her couch here, sipping coffee and smoking through a pack of cigarettes, under a painting of cherubic angels. "

I'm not a real smoker, she says, smoking a pack

This is also oddly precise...I wonder if she keeps track of which songs leak.

You think we shouldn't worry about someone who is showing clear signs of being clinically depressed?
  21. Poison Ivy liked a post in a topic by HEARTCORE in The Other Woman: Nina vs Lana
I've never heard Nina Simone's version before, but I really really liked it! It's so stripped and ~smooth~, kinds what I imagine UV was before Auerbach became involved. Nina's singing (especially the last verse) sounds a lot more natural than Lana's did. That being said, I like the cinematic spin Lana put on her version.

Although discussing Lorde is invalid to the point of the thread (a poll about the songs) I'm laughing because people are bashing Lorde for HER interpretation and feelings toward what artists make songs about. If Lorde believes that Lana's songs sound dependent and needy then so fucking be it. Not everyone loves Lana, not everyone can identify with opulence and millions of dollars, and most importantly everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Bashing a teenager repeatedly is petty, and if Lana wrote it about her that makes her petty for dwelling on the opinion of a teenager who isn't even in her lane. Lana could've brushed it off and acted like an ADULT in the situation and handled it behind the scenes but she made it public with this song.

And everyone here was an opinionated teenager at some point so save it.

Shared my body and my mind with you
    That's all over now
Did what I had to do
'Cause you're so far past me now

Shared my body and my life with you
    That's way over now
There's not more I can do
    You're so famous now

Got your Bible, got your gun
And you like to party and have fun
And I like my candy and your women
I'm finally happy now that you're gone

With my little red party dress on
Everybody know that I'm the best, I'm crazy
Get a little bit of bourbon in ya
Get little bits of bourbon and go crazy

    Because you're young, you're wild, you're free
    You're dancing circles around me
    You're fucking crazy
    Ah...
    You're crazy for me

I shared my body and my mind with you
    That's all over now
I did what I had to do
    I found another anyhow

I shared my body and my mind with you
    That's all over now
I did what I had to do
I could see you leaving now

I got your Bible and your gun
And you love to party and have fun
And I love your women and all of [your heroine?]
And I'm so happy now that you're gone

Put my little red party dress on
Everybody know that I'm a mess, I'm crazy
Get a little bit of bourbon in ya
Gold little bits of bourbon and go crazy
    Yeah, yeah

    Because you're young, you're wild, you're free
    You're dancing circles around me
    You're fucking crazy
    Oh...
    You're crazy for me

Got your Bible and your gun
You like your women and you like fun
And I like my candy and your heroine
And I'm so happy, so happy now you're gone
