  1. Not a lot of people remember this, but Rick Nowels, who has helped Lana create some of her most monumental songs over the years, became friends with Stevie pre-fame, around the age of 16. He then scored his first writing & production credit with her song "I Can't Wait," which became a big single in 1986. That, along with a slew of other Stevie songs established his now long career as a songwriter/producer. So, one may say we wouldn't have a few of Lana's great songs w/o Stevie's divine intervention.
  2. Fr i was so excited when we got that info. I think contrary to many opinion, that Stevie sounds great on the song ESPECIALLY on the chorus. I'm so glad they became friends
  3. Anyone here into her solo music? We all know Rhiannon, but have you ever listened to some of her solo albums? Rock A Little, Trouble In Shangri La, The Wild Heart etc are all great albums.

you're honestly really correct. as much as i love III, it definitely takes an avid listener to pick out the overall sonic and dynamic evolutions from past albums. I believe III was definitely a step in the right direction, but Serpentina however, was just a huge step backwards for me. It felt very Goddess deconstructed, less emotion, less flavor. As for her visuals go, I think over the years she's been given less and less support and less money. She's independent now lets not forget.. Holding Back, one of the true highlights of the album, deserved a killer music video and I truly think if she was on a major label, or an imprint of one, she'd be able to create as many visual pieces as she wants to. I cringe at the ugly CGI/green screens in The Devil video. She should do more Kate bush style dancing in her videos like in Gimme.

However, i think III is an incredibly accomplished album. Till Now is like nothing i've ever experienced before from her, very left field. I absolutely love it. Gimme keeps the energy, but with a more pop oriented formula. Contaminated is excellent, from the production to the lyrics, especially the dramatic intro/outro, and the vocoder throughout. Stroke is a career highlight for me. Absolutely love her use of distortion, specifically how consistently she uses it on the first four tracks. Godless almost reminds me of what Taylor was aiming for with reputation, but more sophisticated. Sawzall is certainly a breath fresh air after 5 production heavy songs, beautiful vocals. (I'm glad she went back to that style on I Still Love you.) Definitely mixed emotions on Look what you're doing to me, mostly because I don't think Francis part is great at all, just not the song for him tbh. Hawaiian Mazes is like traveling to another dimension, that trap based outro with the waves crashing from ear to ear mixed in with the harps and strings ascending is one of the top moments of the album. I've never been to Alaska, but for whatever reason I just get such a snowy and windy vibe from the song. Jimmy jimmy jimmy. Love that hook i don't care what anyone says. Propaganda is almost an homage to some of her earlier music, specifically on The Altar. I love the intense, percussive drums matched with the eerie synth strings. Highlight after highlight! She gets quite aggressive on that second verse of the Fall, as if she's yelling thru her teeth, i LOVE IT. If we were made of water. Where do i even start with this one. God what a masterpiece. The song begins: "You apologize," I immediately ascend. If we were made of water maybe we could swim around it, but we can't no fuckin more. The suffocating vocoder in the outro, never heard anything like it. Beautiful, mesmerizing. What About Love closes out the album perfectly, beautiful slow jam track. I love how the strings build in intensity near the end as her vocal fades out. Definitely my favorite album from her, and was definitely disappointed when Serpentina came out.

Where are these rumors that she put her label into debt and that she's selling her house for artistic reasons coming from? If you combine the album+film streaming, pure/dvd/deluxe sales, tour sales and box office, K-12 made certainly enough for an alternative pop artist with zero radio push. Do you think if atlantic was worried about losing money they'd let Melanie release an album with zero singles? It has to do moreso with the pandemic. The budget they gave her for K-12 obviously wont reflect the budget for MM3 because the money just isn't there in the same capacity due to lack of touring (where the biggest % of artist/label earnings comes from), which is now just starting to recover. That is what's landed her in this situation, where she is relying on depop and NFTs to help partially fund her projects (same as Charli). If she gets a viral tiktok song, Atlantic will give her more funding. Obviously they don't have the resources to give every artist equal funds. And as far as her house goes, if you actually looked at the place, it's on an incredibly crowded lot in a not so great area. She's probably worried you lot are gonna show up at her door and blast Bathroom Synchronicities For Jeff Levin on a bluetooth speaker. But i agree, k-12 the film itself was obviously a huge learning curve for melanie in terms of script writing, directing, *acting*, and how to rollout an album simultaneously. Which is obviously a no-go, unless you're Beyoncé. I'm glad she's taking the route of Halsey and learning to use the music as a soundtrack that will accompany the story, rather than having the storyline fit inbetween songs. (like in K-12).

Well atleast this time she's releasing the album and film separately. The reason k-12 took 2 extra years was because of the film

  16. not true..? i was on her live once where she explained that she totally supported the crowdfunded release of Inbred on vinyl, but she didnt want to speak much about it not to risk the project getting taken down. and if she does actually hate the mention of vinyl, i understand why. she definitely does not have the resources to produce vinyl on her own. (not for a 76 minute album for that matter... double vinyl!!) she's not on a label and does not have any financial support to mass produce in that way i don't think. if i recall her deal with prescription songs is only for publishing and distribution.
