Omfg this thread was such a trip down memory lane. Took me back to being thirteen/fourteen years old and spending literally all my time listening to Lana and browsing LanaBoards. Aaah those were the days<3 Summer of my life, not doing what I should... as Lana would've put it;) Back then me and my best friend - she preferred the 1975 but she'd agree to listen to Lana with me - would skip school and steal her mom's liquor and listen to 'Noir' on repeat. This video in particular: The memories

I'm so happy that she's releasing the album on October 25, though. I'm moving to Tokyo on the 20th and I've lived in Denmark my whole life so Japan will probably be quite a change from what I'm used to. I have a feeling that Magdalene will be the perfect soundtrack to all the new things that I'll experience.

hmmm. i like it, but I guess I'm a bit disappointed. I don't know, maybe my expectations were just too high :/

I love the Ariana cover. The drums sound like Amy's 'You Know I'm No Good'. -
This was so hard but probably: Lana Del Rey - ‘Honeymoon’ Charlotte Gainsbourg - ‘IRM’ Julee Cruise - ‘Floating Into The Night’ Emmylou Harris - ‘Wrecking Ball’ Yoko Ono - ‘Season of Glass’ Charli XCX - ‘Pop 2’ Joan Baez - ‘Whistle Down the Wind’ Rosalía - ‘Los Ángeles’ Laurie Anderson - ’Strange Angels’ Nico - ‘Drama of Exile’

Not to be over dramatic, but I cried while reading the pitchfork review. I can't believe that after all these years Lana is finally getting the respect she deserves :')

So far her score is at 77. :/ They added the LA Times review as an 80, but doesn't it read like much more positive than that?

I just know that in exactly one month everyone will start trashing NFR and begin claiming that they always loved LFL. I can't wait for the almost stalinesque revision of history. -

No, it's literally not? And just 'soda' would be a lot less detailed and specific. -

But she's not singing about driving away from her problems late at night? She's singing about buying a car in the middle of the night in order to hide it from the paparazzis so that they don't know which car she's driving. And the cherry coke line is obviously about her sobriety and not just a way for her to namedrop american iconography. -

I don't really care about Lana's political views. If I judged artists on their moral habitus I wouldn't be able to listen to many of my favorite artists. -
"bar-t-t-tender ha ha ha ha" the best moment in Lana's discography

The album is so amazing! The way it depicts this extremely californian brand of hopelessness strongly reminds me of the book 'Play It As It Lays' by Joan Didion. Have any of you read it? -

I can't imagine her being like Madonna or Cher either, but I can easily imagine her being like Marianne Faithfull or Joan Baez, releasing songs like these when she's in her 70's: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndseNmYb4s0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAk1D8kTtFI -

I'm 20 pages behind so someone might have already answered, but I think it makes sense. She's talking about moving to California to escape the self destructive lifestyle she was living in New York and I think she's realizing that she'll never be able to escape it because "everywhere you go, you take yourself". At least, that's how I interpret it. -
