I had a little trouble with some of the lyrics. Lyrics I'm unsure about are in red: Our kind of love It was once in a lifetime It couldn't last It was doomed from the first time And you were 50s cool In blue suede shoes But it was a cover for all of the trouble You got into I always fall for the wrong guy Things that are bad always taste nice That's what girls like me do Lose you Don't tell me it's over Don't tell me it's over Hollywood's dead Elvis is crying Vicious in flames [bolin/Bolan?] is dying And in the light you're sickeningly beautiful Say goodbye, you're sickeningly beautiful This kind of life Wasn't meant for the good girl Try as I might In the end, it's a cruel world And you are living proof Sinatra aloof That you were an actor who only went after The ones who swooned I always fall for the same type Gangsters in Vegas on game night That's what girls like me like The limelight Don't tell me it's over Don't tell me it's over Hollywood's dead Elvis is crying Marilyn's sad Hendrix is lying there In the light you're sickeningly beautiful Say goodbye, you're sickeningly beautiful If you should go before me then know That I always loved you There's no one above you, baby Don't tell me it's over Don't tell me it's over Hollywood's dead Elvis is crying Lennon, wake up Cobain, stop lying there In the light you're sickeningly beautiful Say goodbye, you're sickeningly beautiful Say goodnight, you're so beautiful Hollywood's dead Hollywood's dead Hollywood's dead Yeah Hollywood's dead Hollywood's dead Hollywood's dead Yeah (Cut!)

I won't cry myself to sleep like a sucker I won't cry myself to sleep If I do I'll die Now you fall asleep with another Damn you Remember how we used to escape for the summer Fireworks and sparklers would light up the black skies We'd hold on tight for our lives to each other Hello, hello, where did you go? We were two kids living life on the run Like the american dream Baby, nothing to lose And we get messed up for fun We went too fast, too young But I won't cry myself to sleep like a sucker I won't cry myself to sleep If I do I'll die Now you fall asleep with another Damn you Damn you Flowers in my hair and your breath smelled like whiskey Promised anywhere that I go, take you with me Dancing on your feet like a child to the radio Hello, hello, where did you go? We were two kids living life on the run Of the american dream Baby, nothing to lose And we get messed up for fun We went too fast, too young But I won't cry myself to sleep like a sucker I won't cry myself to sleep If I do I'll die Now you fall asleep with another Damn you Damn you Damn you Damn you Every once in a lifetime Dreams can come true Now and then when the stars shine You meet somebody like you And I won't cry myself to sleep like a sucker I won't cry myself to sleep If I do I'll die I pray your life is sweet, you fucker Damn you Oh, oh Damn you Damn you

Update Requests - 8Th September To 15Th September

I second these motions. Perhaps the auto-welcome-thread could be replaced by an auto-welcome-PM? -
These two BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge covers remain my favorites:

Don't misunderstand. If we raise the money, someone would be able to go and listen to the recordings at the US Copyright Office. I highly doubt that person would be able to make a copy. The whole purpose of the office is to protect copyrighted material. But hopefully whoever we send would be allowed to take copious notes. The most we could hope for is for someone to report back with a track listing, full transcriptions of the lyrics, descriptions of the songs, and perhaps some photos. And one lucky person will have been able to hear it.

I don't think Kickstarter is viable for this. This forum has only received $1 in donations so far. I don't think we'll scrape together $165 for this. I do think an online music magazine might agree to this arrangement rather than sending their own writer because they wouldn't have to pay our writer, but just cover the fee.

Fuck Nicki Minaj because I'm straight and not a pedophile. Marry Beyonce's baby because that kid will be rich. So, sorry Christopher Walken, no more cowbell. May Jailer, Lizzy Grant, Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Reydio - Accepting Job Applications!
evilentity replied to RileyThomas's topic in Lana Thoughts
I probably wouldn't be interested in being a regular guest host, but I might be interested in hosting a show or two, or perhaps doing special guest spots discussing topics of Lana "research". I'll formally apply later. -
I've often wondered whether it might be possible to fund Lana research endeavors with Kickstarter or something. But this would be a pretty expensive project. Perhaps we could persuade an online music publication to cover the fee in exchange for one of us writing an article about the recordings. Does anybody have any connections?

ZOMG! It looks like there is a way for someone to hear these (they would not be able to copy them), but it would cost $165.

Yeah, the 27 Club watch started two months ago.

See my posts here and here. The copyright thing isn't the first evidence I've seen indicating she was born in 1985. I don't feel it's appropriate to link to here, but she lists her birth year as 1985 on a personal account and I've also seen friends and family wish her a happy 27th birthday.
-
She claims she's 26, but she's already 27.

Thanks for the love guys, but I already spend WAY more time on LDR than I should. Being a full-blown moderator would make it that much worse. But maybe they'll let me be a "mini-mod" like I've proposed.
-
Like I said, I'm not optimistic, but I should hear back soon if there is a way to listen to them. If there is, would you be willing to do whatever's required and report back to us?
-
I need a facepalm emoticon. :imbeingsarcasticbitch2:

Yeah, stringing together snapshots of Americana has always been her schtick, but there's something far more original and less cliched about the images she evokes in, say, "Queen of the Gas Station" compared to almost anything more recent. That's because she IS older than her age.
-
While I've had people tell me I would make a good moderator, I'm older (over 30), and I'm one of the most knowledgeable stalkers researchers in the community, I don't think I can make that sort of time commitment. (Being a mod might also create a conflict of interest with my penchant for jokes and memes, and I also wouldn't want any responsibility for any content posted here that shouldn't be.) However, myself and two other LDR.FM users were given moderator status in certain areas of that forum to help "curate" them and I'd be interested in doing something similar here. The three of us were working on a subsection under the Shows section of LDR.FM containing as much information and media as we could find for every show she did before she/"Video Games" took off. We were given moderator privileges there so we could edit/merge/delete topics and posts as necessary without having to bug the admins to do it for us. I'd like to continue that project here. Additionally, I've noticed lots of mistakes in the Lyrics section and it would be nice if I had the ability to correct them without having to bug the thread creator each time to do it.

The lyric is "50's babydoll dress for my 'I do'", though she doesn't actually pronounce the 's' in "50's. Also, it's "Hello, heaven, you are a tunnel lined with yellow lights". And she claims she says "rahh" after "tiger", like a roar or something, but it sounds more like "ahh" to me.

In the SIN post linked above, I'd provided a link to a shirt sold by the lingerie and bondage shop Kiki de Montparnasse, but it was broken. I've now updated the post to point to an archived version of the page. Looks awfully familiar, doesn't it?

I prefer the term resident "researcher". Kthanxbai.

I thought I remembered 2004 being mentioned on LDR.FM as the date for "Sirens" too, but alas, the site is down, and I couldn't find anything anywhere else to back that up. Both Wikipedia and the Team Hellions guy say 2005 or 2006.
-
I've mentioned this on Twitter and SIN, but I thought I should post this information here. Before the "List of unreleased Lana Del Rey songs" Wikipedia page was recently deleted, it mentioned a 7-track audio recording called either "Rock Me Stable" or "Young Like Me" registered with the US Copyright Office by Elizabeth Woolridge Grant in 2005, which I believe would pre-date "Sirens". The Wikipedia page had also mentioned an unreleased song called "From the End", also registered with the US Copyright Office by Elizabeth Woolridge Grant in 2005. However, the notes in this listing say "Words & music (collection)", so this may also be another album and not just an individual song. Before we get too carried away, it is possible that these songs may all be on "Sirens", or there may be significant overlap, but the possibility of two more early albums is exciting nonetheless. To view the copyright listings, click here. Type "Grant, Elizabeth Woolridge" in the "Search for" field and search by name. I've already made inquiries with the Library of Congress and the US Copyright office as to whether there is any possible way to listen to these recordings. I'm not optimistic, but I should get an answer within a few business days. Also, note that the 2005 listings show her birth year as 1985, not 1986, which indicate that she is really 27 years old, not 26.

Oh, I forgot to respond to this in my first post in this topic. I've never bought this argument about any celebrity unless they portray themselves as a role model. I'm with Charles Barkley on this one:

As several of us have discussed on Twitter, why does Lana continue to lie about her age? And why do journalists mindlessly repeat it? (Although I suspect this interviewer was on to her.) Her copyright filings (among other credible sources) indicate that she is 27.
