Making a catchy song will show that she can change

Why should she have to change to prove herself to the critics? Isn’t that just selling out and conforming? That’s like the opposite of revenge. I’ve always liked how Lana doesn’t try to be something she’s not for a quick hit. That in itself is the best revenge.

  2. Between the Ol’ Man River reference in Text Book and the way she sings the word Oklahoma in Blue Banisters, I’m getting strong musical theatre vibes from this album so far. Specifically very American musicals too. I wonder if that’s intentional and something we’ll see her expand on within the album. Also it’s a shame her rendition Summertime was released so long ago now because that would work with this theme quite well. Honestly I hope it’s intentional because I’m a sucker for musical theatre references. Plus I feel like it’s often overlooked how heart-wrenching musicals can be, they’re really a perfect match for Lana.

I don't think the album cover is gonna be the same one she used for the single cover for the simple fact that it literally never is.

All the singles have the same picture but edited differently for covers, which she hasn’t done before, so I could see the album cover being that picture again, but possibly another edit of it :oic3::omfg:

After listening to the three tracks, I would love if the album cover was something simple, serene, and muted.

I think it would be really fitting to have the visuals contrast the very intense lyricism but also reflect the classicism of the production/sound. This album feels like it’s going to dive into a lot of the psyche prefacing Lana Del Rey as we know her, so I think a simple portrait would be perfect.

I made this “painted” one - I think it matches the music well  :flutter:

Love it! Right away it actually reminded me of this

So when the songs initially came out everyone was wondering if Jenny was Jenny Lewis or someone else.

I remember someone saying that Jenny and Nikki were friends as well.

I’m really thinking it was Jenny Lewis based off that and the lyric we were “writing” with Nikki Lane.

Anyways that makes BB even more special to me because Rilo Kiley will always hold a special place in my heart!

I’ve actually been thinking it could be her too because the “you can’t be a muse, be happy too” advice sounds so much like something she’d tell someone (also made me think of her lyric “you thought I was your muse/but all along it was you” from Dogwood). Then when Lana says “happy” in the long twang in the next line, it reminds me so much of Jenny Lewis’ song “Happy”. But I told myself I’m probably connecting nothing as usual :bebe:

  6. I feel like Lana released the three singles individually specifically so Blue Banisters would be the only one on display, showing up as a new release. While all three songs are very personal and intimate, that one has the least “juicy” lyrics. Not really sure how to word it, but it’s the least likely to be misunderstood. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lana wanted the other two songs to get less attention from the general public because they have grittier lyrics and she’s used to being burned. I feel like that’s why she didn’t promote the songs at all either.

  7. Honestly at this point I’d almost be disappointed if the album cover isn’t that selfie because she sure is using it a lot. :shh2: I like it anyway. An edited selfie is a perfect visual representation of an album that gets so candid about her life. :agree2: And tbh, the more I look at it, I kinda think it’d look great on a vinyl sleeve, even that partial border since lots of old records have those on them. :oic3:

  8. Really excited about the 3 new songs today. And that snippet was crazy euphoric, like I felt flowers blooming, y’know? :hoshet: And I’m also actually really excited about the singles all having that selfie edited differently as their covers, like showing different sides of her. I kinda predicted that when we thought there were 2 albums lol. :illumilana: Also really excited about the possibility of her bringing up her issues with her mother in one of these songs because same :icant: Also so excited just in general about these coming out in time for the QFTC anniversary. Makes it feel like she already had this planned last year. It’s perfect. :illumilana2:

i just listened to Mike’s latest album and what i really like is him transitioning every song into the next one. i always dreamed of lana making a record where every song perfectly flows into the next one. imagine a whole album with freak/art deco transitions... a dream i’d like to dream :kris:

“leftover Joni Mitchell attempts” teas :oopna:

  10. I’m currently reading On Her Knees: Memoir of a Prayerful Jezebel by Brenda Marie Davies.
It just arrived in the mail yesterday and I’m already zooming through it. I’d highly recommend it to anyone here, especially anyone who’s had a complicated history with religion.

    her leftover joni mitchell attempts

You do realize Lana’s early music was more similar to Joni Mitchell than her more recent music, right? Joni Mitchell made experimental jazz music. Compare Lana’s recent stuff to Joan Baez or Carole King, sure, but Joni Mitchell? :wtfney: Lana’s past few albums have actually been moving further and further away from Joni Mitchell territory. If you’re looking for Lana’s “leftover Joni Mitchell attempts,” AKA and BTD are right there:yesnod:

It’s not any kind of album. You can’t dance to it, cry to it, smoke to it, drive around to it...it’s just there

Maybe you can’t dance/cry/smoke/drive to it, but that’s a you problem :awk: maybe you’re just boring

the way i just thought: that video had absolutely nothing to do with the chemtrails era right?? i mean the whole sarcastic tone, her making fun of the things the media tells her/thinks of her, the glamorous photoshoot...nothing of that seems cocc like but it seems VERY similar to her looks lately (notably the last twitter pic and the popsicle one) AND to everything she said about the media and controversies lately. So what IF the interview shoot was tied to BB, which she was probably already working on in september if she was shooting a music video in november, and tied to the headspace the album will be in....

Based on when the Interview mag & video came out and her typing up and reciting her poetry in the video, I think it was always supposed to promote Violet not Chemtrails. :shh2:
