Lana Del Rey x Nikki Lane 1 - Pre-Pre-Release Thread

The entire concept of a country girls collab album just makes me think of Trio, which makes me believe there’s no possible way for this to be bad. -
I truly believe this though. It probably gives her more lyrical freedom if people aren’t always sure what she’s saying.

I sure hope we’re not advocating for more toxic relationships because they “make the music better” or some shit.

I get all emotional and cry almost every time I listen to Coachella–Woodstock In My Mind

If this album does end up in a more country/blues direction, I hope we get some of those sexy guitar riffs that make you start stripping without thinking. -
1. Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass 2. Chemtrails Over the Country Club 3. Honeymoon 4. Ultraviolence 5. Lana Del Ray aka Lizzy Grant 6. Norman fucking Rockwell! 7. Lust for Life 8. Paradise 9. Born to Die ...but all her albums are 10/10 masterpieces in my eyes

You’re right, they don’t. But if people are gonna hate “folk musicians”, they might as well hate ones that actually play folk music.

This is embarrassing. Just say you don’t like folk music. Her recent music isn’t any more like Joni Mitchell than her old music was, in fact it’s actually less so. Joni Mitchell was never a folk singer. She was mostly an experimental jazz musician, if you could even put her in a box. In fact, Venice Bitch and Cruel World and Shades of Cool are way closer to Joni Mitchell’s music than anything on COTCC (except maybe Yosemite). I suggest you go listen to The Hissing of Summer Lawns, then go find an actual “folk musician” to hate on (there’s lots to choose from!)

ironically, this is actually much more similar to Joni Mitchell than anything on Chemtrails was -

I 100% think this project was at least partially influenced by the song Big Rock Candy Mountain even if no one else thinks so. It just makes so much sense. It’s exactly the type of song that would inspire Lana, and she’s been working on folk & country covers lately, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the song itself even made it onto the project. It’s about a hobo’s idea of paradise, which she can use to portray what she thought Hollywood/fame would be like before she experienced it. The lyrics are so Lana that it almost surprises me she hasn’t referenced the song before. -

Since we know she was working on traditional folk & country covers recently, do we think the old country folk song Big Rock Candy Mountain could’ve influenced this new album sonically/thematically at all? -

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!!!! it’s definitely an angry girly rock album right? -
She was raised Catholic, so she probably read the Lord of the Rings books dozens of times as a kid. Seeing as she’s always been inspired by lots of old writers, and he does focus heavily on lush textured descriptions of nature, and includes lots of songs/poems in his works, it actually kinda makes sense she’d be a fan of his work.

Both my standard black vinyl and Spotify picture disc changed from pending to processed since last week (not sure exactly when it changed) and I live in Canada, so idk I feel like they would’ve cancelled it when the status changed if they were going to. -
I love how this article says she’s released 8 albums since her first one, implying this is her 9th, meaning they didn’t just count AKA, but Paradise and Violet too (I like when all her projects are counted equally since it paints a clearer picture of who she is as an artist)
