All these stans making it sound like this is her Magum Opus while I'm over here enjoying just a few tracks and thinking that the production and mixing of the album falls flat and sounds downright terrible at times...

I rate it a ‘C.’ The songwriting seems lazy and flaccid on most of the songs. She seemed to be trying to achieve a very low dynamic, and she succeeded.

She also said it was a folk album with surf overtones—I certainly don’t hear folk, though the title track’s production seems to be a slight shoutout to Joni Mitchell’s ‘Court & Spark,’ and there’s the too-obvious Ladies of the Canyon reference.

Like many of her albums, there’s strong and weak tracks, good and bad. ‘HIAB’ still sounds like 3 completely different songs badly mashed together, like a third-rate B-side. She completely wastes the ‘happiness is a butterfly’ parts with the unfortunate other sections.

I also miss the pure audacity, beauty and creativity she revealed on songs like ‘Live or Die,’ ‘Last Girl on Earth,’ ‘Meet Me in the Pale Moonlight,’ and especially ‘Angels Forever,’ ‘Hollywood,’ and ‘JFK.’

Sorry but I have to disagree. Ultraviolence has much more intricate and interesting melodies than NFR. A lot of the instrumentals on NFR feel unintentionally distored and weak, the whole album lacks bass, drum beats or even heavy electronic beats (besides HTD and Cinnamon Girl), which makes it sound dry and flat most of the time. It's about counterbalancing instruments to create a balanced sound. Nothing groundbreaking melodically, the piano bits all sound basic and not intricate. Also, I don't know who mixed that album, but Lana's voice sounds like a whisper on a lot of tracks, like it's drowned in weaky instrumentals.

Ultraviolence is a fucking atmospheric and transcendent album, NFR can only wish.

Norman Fucking Rockwell has great songs, but it's not as flawless as you make it sound to be, not saying Ultraviolence was either, but it's not on the same level for sure.

You do realize that critics are literally just starting to soften up to Lana, right? Like up until LFL most of them held some stupid grudge against her based on all the bullshit that happened and was said in 2011/12. Which clearly tainted their judgement of all her music. West Coast is a revoluationary song (mark my fucking words) but it didn't really create the waves it should've. Song of the year in 2014.

I venture to say that if Ultraviolence came out this year it would probably have a rate near 90% on Metacritic.

It's such a beautiful track I love the mix of actual beautifully produced trap beats and classical/jazzy instrumentals!

Annie is annoying af with her irrelevant questions, she always ask artists "Why aren't you political??!!1!"
Like Lana went political on one album and it was also arguably her worst, I don't understand the fascination with artists going down that road.

    I did not know that
and good for Amy, her record is spotless and a classic!

I remember back in late 2014, early 2015 I was super pumped that Lana might be working with him. But since Honeymoon is perfect as is, I'm glad to know we didn't need his shitty input.

The thing about lyrical recurrence is that for a few songs span on several albums, it's fine. But when you already expect a couple songs on the album to be like "blue blue blue, pale moonlight, red party dress, Hollywood, throw a bunch of f and b words here and there" it's not much recurrence but rather redundancy and it can easily come across as lazy writing.
