I always thought Old Paul's was a bar and her friends are drunk and like stumbling out of the bar at closing time lol but it being a church makes more sense like they're constantly in and out with the idea of god or they are always doing bad things and trying to like have jesus forgive them or whatever (but i still think it's the bar thing)

In my opinion, West Coast isn't as strong, lyrically, as Born To Die and Ride. I find that BTD and Ride are the two most relatable songs from Lana which is why I love them so much. Also, the instrumentation from both songs are just incredible to me because they're very cinematic and that's what I personally like.

Yes! Same here, I think the video loop of her swaying adds to it, as well as the "swinging/swaying" lyrics, but every time the chorus is just about to come on, I sway and spin slowly like SNL Lana.

I decided to go out on a quest to do an entire AKA CD as if I was assigned the project by her label myself, and this was the result! It includes a 32-page booklet, a tray insert, and a CD label.

^ I meant for the text to match her shade of lipstick, but you're right -- it is kinda garish-looking. Will edit when I can be bothered to!  <3

I think she's always singing about K. I think he's in (pretty much) every song, and she's always comparing the other men to him, contributing things about him to them, or reflecting him onto them. Sort of like someone theorized she did with Jimmy Gnecco.

This would explain the "I'm always singing about the same God damn person. I think I'll love him forever." because she actually is always singing about him.

I'll give you a few examples off the top of my head-

Dynamite: "And I'm so close to the real thing, I'm so close to the real thing I could almost die." This guy and the way he kisses her reminds her of K, she's so close to him "the real thing" and real love, that she could almost die, (and be with him.)

Mermaid Motel: A lot of people were confused by this because Reeve clearly has a song entitled Lavender. And I do think this is about him, but then she references taking him to Coney Island (like she used to do with K.) And "God bless the ocean," a clear K thing. I'm also wondering if when she says "God bless you, and God bless me." If she isn't actually talking about K and herself there.

Anyway, I'm sure you can find examples of this in almost every song. I'm on my mobile, or I would look farther into this and get more in depth. But I'd go so far as to say, that there are very few songs he's not in.

I also wanted to add something to the Kill Kill theory with the line "Do you know I'm going to leave you?" If K was in Florida, maybe she had to leave and go back to NY (or where ever) for some reason. Also, "Tell me about Ray and his girl," I think Ray and K were probably friends, and he'd tell Lana about 'Ray and his girl' because he was worried about her cheating on him and was trying to see if she was at all jealous of Ray's girl & see if he had anything to worry about there. But with the lines from Gangsta boy "I wouldn't say I loved, loved you if I didn't. I can't cheat cause I know what I'm missing." I'd like to think the best and say she didn't!

Although, in Bel Air "I won't cheat you no more." She might be conflicted and feel like she's cheating on him even though he's dead. This would make sense if they were still dating when he died. (LWY and TVIB&W sort of contradict this, but they could have always broken up when she 'left' for another state & gotten back together after that/those songs.) or she could just feel that loyal to him.

"I won't cheat you no more," could also be her way of saying she won't pretend other guys are him anymore, now that she's matured and realizes he could feel 'cheated' from her doing that.

This is my first time posting. Does anyone like my theories?

CHELSEA HOTEL NO. 2 IS COMPLETE.

Moved Lana around a little bit, which worked out because it helped with keeping too much of the background open, and I managed to get Leonard Cohen's plaque in the shot this time. I couldn't figure out a way to get the night scene to work out, so I just added some warmer filters. It actually kind of has a post-rain afternoon atmosphere to it.

Hope you guys like this! I'll probably do more work on it in the next few days if need be, but I got some other projects to start working on.

  16. kid blue liked a post in a topic by neuf in Saddest / Most Depressing Lana Song
I always think there's multiple kinds of "sad musicians".  Lana has always been, to me, on the more impressionistic side.  She paints the scene/mood and let's the person find the sadness kind of within it.   More of a Monet than a Rembrandt.

I like Yayo, Gramma (Reminds me of mid-70s Dylan a bit and Lana), Black Beauty.  Even within those, there's hope or a silver lining.  It's hard to find a really personally hopeless song; she might not really have one.  That's fine though.

I don't know, it's hard to really differentiate between contrived and genuine and I sway towards the older stuff with determining the genuine sadness or at least genuine motivation behind it.  A lot of songs can easily be written off as "sadcore" or sad but are they really sad though?  Reminds me of the early 2000s when people called bands like Interpol or Strokes "sad" when they were more "dark" than "sad"...

Lana is a gay goddess, just like many other female artists who flaunt their femininity in such a powerful way. The thing I like about Lana, and what speaks to my gay brain chemistry, is her essence. Her vocal, visual, and the way she portrays her musical image is glamorous, sublime, and there is a maliciousness, a darkness that I find appealing.

I'll never get over how lovely her voice is, jfc. These questions bother me for some reason, I don't even know.
