  1. Look if you stan Lana because you think she's woke then that's your fault She is an extremely America-centric person (and artist), and there's nothing inherently wrong with that, except that in her case it clearly extends to stuff like this It doesn't excuse the signing or make it okay, but it's like being disappointed that Canada has snow in the winter. It's just par for the course I don't support that letter at all but I also just don't think that a group of Hollywood celebrities collectively commenting is very helpful in general. Like who cares? That doesn't help the people affected. Wake me up when they actually decide to do smthn useful, like attend protests or donate money.
  2. It's absolutely heartbreaking and there's fuck all we can do to help It makes me so angry and sad I wrote a letter to my local federal member who happens to be a key member of the Australian govt and I just got this stupid reply about how we're sending $15m worth of aid or some shit (which we can't even get across the border anyway). Clown town
  3. Evidence that even high-up people within the UN know that the UN is useless In other news, Egypt has opened the Rafah crossing and is allowing the seriously injured and foreign nationals to cross. It's a start.
  4. And so are US allies, like Australia, that go along with it so as to not rock the boat
  5. Destroying this camp and killing at least 100 innocent people in order to take out ONE bad dude is a microcosm of the whole Israeli response actually
  6. Any country that isn't vocally condemning attacks on REFUGEE CAMPS and HOSPITALS has blood on its hands right now This conflict is the equivalent of your neighbour's kid throwing a rock over your fence so you burn down their house with them inside This is not to diminish the plight of the hostages or those who died on October 7, but there is a distinct difference between Hamas and Palestinian civilians. The latter are being wiped from the face of the earth because of the actions of the former I just feel disgust rn
  7. The world is just gonna let them die I guess? Incomprehensible
  8. I mean idk about this but it should outrage any human that this is happening to 2 million other humans And it makes me angry that celebrities are tiptoeing around it
  9. Straying from the topic but Angelina Jolie's statement is also not it (and was liked by Ben) Why the fuck are these celebrities so afraid to pick a side? 2 million people are being starved and bombed to death and anyone who doesn't stand clearly against that is a coward at best
  10. I'm honestly not sure. I'm about to go out but I will do some reading when I come home
  11. I mean yeah that's fucked up but Russia voted FOR it (which is lolz) and countries like Australia, Canada, the UK, Sweden and Greece refused to pick a side (cowards) The UN is just a political pissing contest Even though it passed, nothing at all will happen USELESS
  12. I think if you're nominated for a Grammy they should take into account ALL music-related activities regardless of the category you're nommed for Being in a really terrible band: minus 35 points
  13. I have been considering making a thread about this for the past few weeks actually (and I'm sure others did, too) but I was worried it'd turn into whatever the fuck the Lana Signing thread is. So far this thread has been very respectful and @Ultra Violet included a lot of good resources for people wanting to learn more about the situation. If you don't wanna participate then do not?
  14. I've also observed that, with regard to the media and politicians (in Australia, anyway), it all started off very pro-Israel but it has changed because of (I think) public sentiment. Like at the beginning we were lighting up the Opera House in blue and white and had politicians saying anyone supporting Palestine should be deported (lollllll) Then the pro-Palestine rallies and protests started, and it has pivoted to be more neutral So I think people power is having an impact on governments and I hope all of the protesters don't give up. I just wish it'd have enough of an impact to help those in Gaza who are STILL without food, water, power and medical supplies/assistance. Also can I just say: fuck the UN, it is a completely useless organisation
  15. It's crazy when you look at the maps from 1967 until now It's referred to as "Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories" for a reason And that reason is that Israel keeps building illegal settlements in Palestine (not vice versa) Hamas literally said that this was the reason for the October 7 attacks. Don't get me wrong, I don't support violence against anyone, anywhere, ever, and I really feel for all the innocent people on both sides. But Hamas feels that Palestine is fighting for its very existence and desperate people will resort to desperate measures These actions also (unfortunately) stoke anti-Semitism. I've seen a lot of comments about "greedy Jews" and so forth which is very disheartening and alarming. I just think that the Israeli govt needs to look long and hard at this policy of taking land, and reconsider. And I think Western govts need to put pressure on them about it, too.
  16. This post will get lost in the ongoing chaos but I agree I mean you can (fairly) criticise Lana for signing something that appears to have been generated by ChatGPT but it's really not surprising or new Celebrities have a habit of being all, "PEAAAAACCCEE" without examining the complexities (at least publicly)
  17. The sis signed the statement in the OP about the Israel-Palestine conflict and it's a controversial/crackheaded statement for a number of reasons and she should've just gone shopping or something
  18. No but I really wanna know how they decided which nationalities to list Like idk about the other countries but there are no reported Australian hostages (unless we're counting everyone in Gaza because they are essentially all hostages at this point) I know it's pointless to even wonder about this but it's so crackheaded Did they let Justin Bieber write this?
  19. Yeah it's like someone entered, "write a condemnation letter, fit for ignorant Hollywood celebrities, about the current Israel/Palestine conflict" into an AI app and this is what it spat out It'd be funny if it wasn't based on such an awful and serious situation.
  20. To play devil's advocate, if you take that message on face value then there really isn't anything too objectionable in it, WITH the exception of the beheadings (which admittedly is ignorant) But in terms of Biden's support of IDF, it really doesn't mention or even allude to supporting that at all To me it reads as anti-Hamas, pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian (if you're someone reading it who knows fuck all about it) I 100% agree that she should just shut about this stuff but I don't consider that message, in and of itself, to be pro-Israeli only. And the reason I'm saying all this is cos you know she saw a few news headlines, skimmed over this statement for 10 seconds on her iPhone and went "yeah cool" Doesn't excuse it but once again, she doesn't think before she does stuff like this (ETA I'm not saying I agree with/would sign this shit, I'm just trynna to deduce her possible line of thought)
  21. This discussion is boring af now so I'll keep it brief: imo the black-and-white mentality is insisting she was poor. Not being rich =/= poor. She never said her family was poor, she just described her upbringing. If you listened to what she said and got "poor" from that then okay, but others did not. Not believing that her family was poor =/= thinking that she's lying, or that there weren't struggles, or that she wasn't broke in her early 20s.
